Work Text:
It was another successful neutralization for the First Division. Narumi is out to join them in their mini celebration after Hasegawa forced him to go. This made Hoshina extremely disappointed. That is because the two of them decided to spend the night together since they haven't seen each other for 2 months straight.
Now, he is spending his time alone inside their shared apartment, covered in a blanket while watching the movie they were supposed to see tonight.
It wasn't Narumi's fault, honestly. They've been keeping their relationship a secret from everyone, including Hasegawa and Ashiro. So when duty calls, they need to leave behind whatever appointment they had together and reschedule it.
While that won't usually bother Hoshina, the way Narumi acts when they are together makes him question their relationship. Does Narumi truly love him? Does he really want to be with him? Over the past five months, he has never felt like he had a lover. The lack of communication made it worse.
Narumi wasn't touchy and he wasn't expressive through words. Hoshina had known that and up until now, they haven't really tried many intimate gestures like kissing, holding hands, huggig each other. When they're together, it feels like they're just a bunch of schoolkids in a situationship trying to hang out. He thinks it's high time they discussed them. To make everything clear. If things are really working out. It was supposed to be tonight, but the sudden interruption delayed it further. He's scared that he might lose the will to talk to Narumi after tonight.
In the end, he just decided to continue watching the movie in peace. Even though he is not enjoying it.

Narumi is seated in the back corner where there are less people to see him. Hasegawa had forced him to participate in this celebration. If he could, he would sneak out but his Vice Captain was carefully eyeing him. He just sighed as he drank more alcohol, hoping that it would distract him from his thoughts and feelings.
He looks at his phone, his last message to Hoshina being ‘I'm sorry’ while his lover didn't bother replying. He was sure that Hoshina is upset. I mean, who wouldn't be? Narumi is upset too. He has been looking forward to that movie night they planned a month ago. He misses Hoshina so much that it's killing him.
He just chugs another cup, hoping it would drown his feelings of guilt and loneliness tonight. He definitely needs to make it up to Hoshina. He buries his face in his arms and grumbles. He wants to be with his lover. Not in this rowdy place with their newbies. It's not so bad but nothing beats being with the one he loves. At this point, he's just flat out drunk.
“I know you don't want to be here, you dumb mentor. But don't show it too much or it might kill the mood,” Kikoru sighs as she looks at the pitiful Captain, who is clearly drunk.
“That's not it... it's not so bad to be here,” he mumbles, his face still burried from his arms. This earns a curious look from Kikoru who looked at the man beside him, which happened to be Kafka.
“Then what's the problem?” the older male asked, tilting his head. “My lover.”
“Huh?” Both officers were confused from their Captain's statement. Their Captain grumbled more before lifting his head and looking at the two officers’ direction. “I said, my lover. We planned a movie night a month ago. It got postponed again,” he said then rested his chin on his arms before heaving a sigh.
“Captain Narumi, you have a lover?” Kafka asked in amazement while Kikoru remained speechless. If this was their normal Captain, they’d call it bullshit. You can never take him seriously after all. But this Captain Narumi was drunk. He looked sad, disappointed, stressed, and was about to cry, which was conflicting. Is he really telling a truth?
“Yeah, and I haven’t been a good boyfriend to him ever since we started dating. I wanted to make it up to him tonight. I miss him,” he shared, his tone almost breaking. He continued to stare at the nothingness with teary eyes.
“What the hell,” Kikoru reacted. This was new to all of them. Their Captin at the verge of tears? “I don’t know what to believe,” she continued.
Just then, their Vice Captain Hasegawa walked towards them. They immediately saluted whist their mind are still boggled by their Captain’s behavior. And statement.
“Relax, no need to salute,” Hasegawa told them. The two relaxed indeed but they still looked.. tense? Was it the right word? But they certainly didn’t look alright. “Is something the matter?” He asked with concern. The two officers looked at each other then looked at Narumi. Hasegawa turned his attention to his sulking Captain and sighed. “What’s the matter with him?”
“Well, he seems to be… down,” Kafka started, unsure of how to relay the message about their Captain’s condition. “Down? In. what way?” Hasegawa asked, clearly confused. “He mentioned something about a lover. But I don’t know.”
The Vice Captain’s eyes widened in disbelief and exclaimed quite loudly, “A lover?!” Eyes from the other officers were now on them. They were quiet for a few seconds, the officer mumbling about the situation and waiting for their Vice Captain’s response. Hasegawa cleared his throat, “It’s alright everyone. It’s nothing. Continue the celebration. This day is for all of you,” he smiled at them then quickly sat down in front of Kikoru and Kafka.
“What does he mean, ‘lover’?” he said with a low voice, ensuring no one heard.
“I think he means a relationship? I mean what else could it be,” Kafka attempted to explain. He scratched his head, still unsure of whether their Captain really meant a lover or if it suddenly had a secret meaning.
“He said they planned a movie date for today but got postponed due to this party,” Kikoru added. Hasegawa simply looked confused. Their Captain having a lover? Top 10 things that are hard to believe. Who would wanna be with someone with a nasty personality like that? What kind of generational prodigy would have the what it takes to have romantic feelings for this guy?
“We should just ask him,” Kikoru sighed, nudging her Captain to get his attention. “Captain Narumi, Vice Captain Hasegawa is here,” she said. Narumi only grumbled and moved his head away from them. “I don’t wanna face him. I’m upset at Hasegawa. Now my lover is mad because of him.”
“Is this all serious?” Hasegawa asked and all three of them sighed. Maybe it really was true that their Captain found someone. Maybe they need to have faith in him. Maybe. I mean, it could still be a ploy.
“Narumi, if you explain the situation to me then I will drive you to your lover’s house,” their Vice Captain offered. Narumi quickly got up and faced all of them, his eyes shimmering like when a child gets a new toy. Oh man, all this might just be true.
“You mean it?”
“I mean it.”
“I haven’t seen my boyfriend for 2 months straight. We’ve been busy. We had 7 dates cancelled because of our conflicting schedules and unexpected summons. This is the 8th,” he narrated, the sadness obvious in his voice. While it’s still hard to believe, their hearts stung for their Captain. Two months of not seeing the person you love must be torture. It might also be why their Captain was irritable for the past week.
“Alright, pack your things. I’ll drive you to him,” Hasegawa gave in. Narumi’s mood flipped and his frown became a smile. A genuine smile. It astonished all three of them because they rarely saw him smile like that. “Text him that you’re coming so he can pick you up in front of your apartment.”

Hoshina was crying. He was pissed and lonely. He wanted to have Narumi for the whole night. In the 5 months they shared together, they’ve only met for a total of four times. Two of those were even cut short due to the damn kaiju.
But then his spirits were suddenly lifted up when he received a message from Narumi. His heart fluttered because why was the message so sweet? It suddenly erased his anger. It said ‘I’m on the way home my love. Please pick me up downstairs.’
Hoshina must have spent 5 minutes looking and rereading his lover’s message. The characters in the movie they were supposed to watch were crying and devastated as someone died. But he was giggling. He just continued that process, completely forgetting to reply until he got another message from Narumi saying, ‘im here love.’
The swordsman quickly got up and ran downstairs. Finally, they could spend their time together. Did talking to him absolutely slip his mind? Yes. But he first wanted to cherish the few moments that they would be together before anything else. Once he got down, he looked around to see where Narumi was. What he didn’t expect was that Vice Captain Hasegawa would be there.
“Vice Captain Hoshina?” the swordsman’s eyes widened and he flinched when he heard an unexpected voice call out to him. He looked in the right and saw Hasegawa assisting what seems to be a drunk Narumi.
Upon hearing his name, Narumi jolted up and looked at Hoshina. He broke free from Hasegawa’s hold and ran to his lover with a smile on his face. “Soshiro!” He called out, running and jumping on the purple-haired man to hug him. This caught Hoshina off guard and he caught his boyfriend immediately. “Gen,” he said, while the Captain burried his face on the crook his neck, humming delightfully. This made Hoshina’s heart melt. It felt so warm and nice. He held Narumi tighter, smiled at him, then caressed his head.
“I see,” he heard the taller man say. Hasegawa smiled at the two of them. Hoshina bowed to thank the Vice Captain of the 1st Division. “Thank you for bringing Gen home, Vice Captain Hasegawa.”
“No need to thank me, Hoshina. He kept whining about not wanting to be there the whole night anyway,” he shared which caught Hoshina off guard. Narumi didn’t say anything and just tightened his hug on Hoshina.
“You should head upstairs now. Our drunk Captain might catch a cold,” the scarred man further said as he turned around to leave. “Please take care on your way back,” Hoshina said.
“I’m glad to know that he finally found someone. And I’m relieved that it’s you,” Hasegawa expressed which made Hoshina smile. With that, he turned to leave and the couple went upstairs. Narumi refused to let his lover go so Hoshina had no choice but to carry him inside.
Instead of in the living room, Hoshina walked to the bedroom and gently laid his drunk boyfriend on their bed. He was about to leave to get him some change of clothes when Narumi pulled his arm and he ended up laying on top of him.
His drunk lover made space on their bed and cuddled Hoshina, refusing to let him go. “Gen, you should change your clothes. I’ll go get them for you,” Hoshina whispered as he tried to free himself from Narumi’s strong arms. “Later,” the latter simply replied.
“Gen, you need to change into fresh clothes. I don’t want you getting sick,” Hoshina softly told hi lover as he cupped his face. He planned to confront him about their relationship an hour ago. Now he feels conflicted. Gen was never this affectionate before. Was he overthinking things? Their relationship seems to be moving forward. Gen cares, he was whining and trying to go home.
“Later, please. I miss you, Soshiro,” Gen said and kissed Soshiro’s hand that was caressing his cheeks. He didn’t mean to, but tears just started falling down his cheeks. Gen immediately sat down and used his hands to wipe Soshiro’s tears.
“Soshiro, why are you crying?” he asked gently with concern on his face.
“It’s nothing,” the purple-haired man lied. Gen frowned and flicked his forehead, earning an ‘ouch’ from his lover. “Gen, why did you do that?!” Soshiro complained. Gen kissed the red spot from where he flicked Soshiro’s foreheard and said, “You wouldn’t be crying if it was nothing.”
Soshiro giggled, more tears streaming down his cheeks. Gen craddled his body and wiped his lover’s tears, his heart aching for him. “I just, I thought,” Soshiro started, his breathe falling short. “Calm down, my love. No need no rush,” his boyfriend reassured.
“I just thought you didn’t love me enough,” he finally said. Soshiro felt a pang of guilt when he saw the panic and confusion his lover’s face. “I’m sorry, Gen,” he apologized.
“No, no. It’s okay, Soshiro,” Gen reassured in a panic, caressing Soshiro’s back to help calm him down. “But, please tell me why you thought that,” he pleaded with shaking voice.
“I know you’re not a touchy person.. but it didn’t really feel like we were dating. It felt like we were just hanging out like before. We don’t hug, kiss, or cuddle. It just… it made me feel neglected,” Soshiro cried, gripping Gen’s shirt and burying his face on the crook of his neck. In response, Gen held him tighter and kissed his forehead.
“I’m really sorry, Soshiro. I swear I didn’t mean that. I love you, okay? You mean everything to me,” Gen reassured him, and kissed his cheeks this time. “I’m sorry, my love. It’s just.. it’s my first time and I don’t know how relationships worked and I felt shy clinging to you. And I thought you might be uncomfortable, I’m sorry,” he further explained.
“Love, you have nothing to apologize for. It’s not your fault,” Hoshina looked at Gen’s eyes filled with tears as well. He kissed under Gen’s eyes and then his cheek. “It’s just an honest mistake.”
“An honest mistake is still a mistake. I promise I will change. I promise I’ll do better next time. I’ll hug you, kiss you, hold your hands, and tell you I love you. Because I really do, Soshiro. I’m serious about us. I love you,” he swore with eyes full of passion that made Soshiro melt. He knew that Gen was being sincere and that made him extremely happy.
“Thanks, Gen. You make me so happy,” Soshiro hugged his boyfriend, and so did Gen. “I love you. I love you so much, Gen.”
“And I love you too, my Soshiro,” the Captain replied. Their eyes locked and they stared at each other for a few minutes before Gen broke their silence. “May I kiss you?”
Soshiro chuckled at the expected, but also unexpected question. He smiled brightly at Gen before answering, “Yes. Yes, you may.”
With his boyfriend’s permission, Gen didn’t hesitate to connect their lips in a long, passionate kiss. They kissed sloppy and slowly, their lips moving in sync, trying to feel the other. Despite the saliva dripping from their mouths, they didn’t stop from kissing, sucking the other’s lips, and nibbling. Soshiro broke their kiss to catch his breathe, and a streak of saliva eas formed, showing the connection between their lips.
Gen caught another quick peck, and another, and another, until they were back in kissing again. Soshiro felt Gen’s tongue brush against his lips which gave him butterflies. This time though, Gen parted away to catch his breathe. “I’m your first kiss right? Where did you learn to kiss so good,” Soshiro chuckled, amazed at the skill his partner showed.
“Well what can I say, I’m the genius Captain of the First Division after all. I learn quick,” Gen winked, which made Hoshina burst out laughing. “Hey, why are you laughing!”
“You’re so adorable, Gen. That wink was cringe though,” Hoshina kept laughing, earning him a grumble from his lover. “They say that people in love are cringe! And it’s acceptable,” Gen defended himself. Soshiro stole another kiss on Gen’s lips which seemed to have calmed him down.
“For someone who claims to be shy, you sure are quite bold tonight. I guess being drunk had its perks?,” the swordsman teased. Gen pouted like a child before replying, “I’m not drunk, just tipsy. I put on an act so Hasegawa would excuse me from the party. And yeah, I did need some liquid courage,” Gen admitted which made Soshiro smile.
“Thanks, Gen, really. I’m so lucky you’re mine,” Soshiro said softly, making the captain blush and flustered. He hugged Soshiro tightly and whispered to his ear.
“That should be my line.”

Bonus scene:
“Vice Captain Hasegawa!” Kikoru called the scarred man who just entered the establishment once more after sending their ‘drunk’ Captain home. “How did it go, Sir?” Kafka, another officer asked.
Hasegawa gave the both of them a pat on their head as he walked passed them. “It’s real. His boyfriend is real and is someone I respect. He made a good choice. And I’m really happy for them,” he replied in a cheerful tone, even humming as he walked to join the new officers in their table.
“Did… did the Vice Captain just hum?” Kafka asked.
“That’s your issue?! My pathetic idiot mentor actually has game! And he pulled someone good?! He actually made a good decision for once?!” Kikoru exclaimed, still finding her mentor’s successful love life quite unbelievable.
