Chapter Text
Her own face in her bedroom mirror made her pause just before she left to start another day on the farm.
She’d gotten too used to seeing what the city had done to her: bags under her eyes, face pale, expression empty and numb. Like a ghost of a woman who’d thrown her aspirations away.
That woman didn’t stare back at her anymore. She was starting to tan from being outside, blue eyes full of more life than she’d noticed in years. The tiredness hadn’t faded, but there was determination alongside it, stubborn and willing.
She smiled and meant it.
