Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Alex was in Yassen’s temporary apartment in Abu Dhabi when suddenly he had the distinct feeling something was wrong. “Yassen-” he began, before realizing he was fading.

Yassen Gregorovich made a slight turn towards him, eyes widening slightly as he took in Alex’s half faded form.

“I don’t know what’s wrong-” Alex began again.

And he was gone.

In a different universe, another, younger Alex, yelped as an odd scientist took a vial of blood and hair.  The scientist threw him back into the cell and put the samples into machine that took up the rest of the room.

The young Alex looked on in confusion as the machine began to chug away, a blur beginning to form in the centre.

Slowly, a figure was taking shape, it was a he, Alex realized, and he had on a black t-shirt, with dark grey cargo pants, and what looked like an arsenal of weapons. Older than him, but… oddly familiar.

The person was now lying on the floor unconscious. The scientist bustled around, quickly swabbing the man’s cheek while a guard removed the weapons and quickly handcuffed him. They seemed to be extra cautious with him-

“SCORPIA operative-”

“Be careful-better to handcuff him-”

Before they threw him into Alex’s cell. Briefly he wondered if he would be safe with that amount of caution they handled the man with, before dismissing the thought, if anything the man could be useful in an escape. Possibly. If they could get the handcuffs off.

Taking a closer look at him, Alex was startled to see the resemblance to himself, although older and sharper somehow.

The scientist suddenly crowed in excitement “It worked! An exact DNA match, I pulled another Alexander John Rider from a different dimension!”

Alex stared at the scientist in disbelief, before turning his attention to the man beside him. It could be another him, he realized a bit hysterically, same face, eyes, hair, everything.

The scientist continued to talk, but Alex couldn’t hear anything still stuck on how similar, and yet different, the other person, the other Alex looked.

Perhaps, when he woke up tomorrow, he would be back in his bed, instead of stuck in this weird nightmare.

Distantly he noticed the scientist leave and the guards settled down in the chairs and table near the door. Yes, with luck he’d wake up and this would all be over.
