Restless Flame

Summary:

"Its just ridiculous," Fire Spirit said once the pain subsided, "I am the flame! The flame doesn't break its ankle!"

"Well, if the flame wants to get better, he needs to stop moving around so much and elevate that ankle,"

----

Fire Spirit is impatient for his broken ankle to heal, and Wind Archer is caring for him.

Notes:

It's 2am and I can't sleep because my own broken ankle hurts too bad. The only cure is firewind.
This is very self indulgent sorry yall.

!! There is a slight description of the nature of Fire Spirit's broken ankle but it is brief and doesn't go into detail, however I wanted to warn about this because I know broken bones can be kind of squeamish for some people !!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Fire Spirit huffed as he was, once again, pushed onto his back. Wind Archer stood over him with his arms crossed to give the fire guardian a look of pure disapproval.

"Aw, cmon Windy! I'm perfectly ffff--" Fire Spirit bit his tongue as a stab of horrible pain shot through him, then throbbed in time with his heartbeat.

Wind Archer simply raised an eyebrow. "Clearly you aren't," he said, adjusting the pillows around Fire Spirit, "You shouldn't be moving anyway. And if you do need to get up for some reason, ask me for help."

Fire Spirit was in too much pain to answer at the moment, instead opting to whine. To call his ankle broken would be an understatement. Not only was it broken in three spots, but his fibula was dislocated. "Its just ridiculous," Fire Spirit said once the pain subsided, "I am the flame! The flame doesn't break its ankle!"

"Well, if the flame wants to get better, he needs to stop moving around so much and elevate that ankle," Wind Archer said. He sat by Fire Spirit's side, gaze softening with concern. "How bad does it hurt?"

"Bad," Fire Spirit couldn't hide the quiver in his voice, much to his embarrassment, "But it's fine! I have a good pain tolerance! It's fiNe!" The quiver intensified to a crack.

Wind Archer closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath before speaking. "Do you want something to help with the pain?"

"A kiss would be nice."

"You're getting Tylenol," Wind Archer stood abruptly to go to the cabinet. Fire Spirit had hijacked the place long before this injury... the cabinet had plenty of cough drops and stomach medication that Wind Archer never touched. He would admit, though, that the Tylenol was a welcome addition when he returns from missions sore and exhausted.

Fire Spirit took the Tylenol like it was the only thing keeping him alive. Within only a few seconds he huffed, "This isn't working."

"You just took it!" Wind Archer pinched the bridge of his nose, then said, "I sometimes can't tell when you're being frustrating on purpose."

Fire Spirit seemed to take that as a compliment. "Heh! Thanks!" He said, "But I was just joking there. Kind of. I really wish it would work faster."

Wind Archer said, "Understandable... I wish I could take your pain away as well."

"Aw, really?" Fire Spirit had a stupid grin on his face.

Wind Archer rolled his eyes, but leaned down to give Fire Spirit a soft kiss on the forehead. "Yes, really."

Fire Spirit's grin only grew wider. "Aw, thanks Windy! But..." he paused to build tension, "You missed," he pointed to his lips.

Wind Archer shoved him lightly and stood. "Thats it, you're on your own."

"Windy! Hey, I was joking! Heyyy!" Fire Spirit whined. Although he couldn't see it, Wind Archer was smiling to himself as he walked away. He could never stay mad at Fire Spirit for long. Though, as he heared rustling from the couch, he realized just how long these next few weeks would be.

Fire Spirit is lucky he loves him so much.

Notes:

Irl this injury would require surgery. Unfortunately I know this from experience but Fire Spirit will be spared from the horrors of realistic injury... perhaps guardians heal better than mortals or something idk
