Work Text:
Phineas Flynn is not yours , Isabella thought to yourself, gripping the steering wheel until her knuckles turned white. Phineas Flynn is just your friend .
Because as simple as it was, sometimes she still needed reminding. Like when Phineas looked her way for a little too long, or when he laughed a little harder at her jokes, or squeezed her for a second when they hugged goodbye. Or when he did it all in a quick succession, making her heart almost combust with her mixed bag of emotions.
The ten-year-old girl within was just at awe that she got that attention from Phineas.
The sixteen-year-old girl she was wondered if it was even attention at all.
So as much as it hurt to remember, and as much as she wished it wasn’t true, she still repeated the words to herself constantly.
Phineas Flynn isn’t yours.
Uninvited and unwelcome, memories of hugs and compliments flooded her senses. Every lingering glance and every fond smile. She tried puzzling out some clues, some indication that, after all this time, it wasn’t unrequited.
“But what’s the point?” she mumbled at herself, catching her reflection in the rearview mirror. She drove away before her tears fell.
