Work Text:
Despite what people, including her coworkers, may have said, Caitlyn wasn’t a workaholic. She just enjoyed her job. It was important and she loved it. Most of the time, she considered it a personal success that she was able to remain so passionate about her work.
And then there were times like this.
“What are you doing?” Vi asked, flopping onto the bed beside Caitlyn. She was glowing from the workout she’d already finished, hair still damp from a shower. Usually, Caitlyn would have joined her for both, but without work later, she wasn’t motivated to even get out of bed.
“What even is there to do?” Caitlyn asked, hearing the whine in her own voice.
Vi laughed, a bright, happy sound that always made Caitlyn’s spirit feel a little lighter. “Literally everything… We could go on a date.”
“At ten in the morning?”
“Ya never been on a morning date before?”
Sometimes she and Vi stopped for food or coffee on their way to work, but Caitlyn wasn’t sure that counted. Her first impulse was to decline, to stay in bed and mope, but the more she turned the idea over in her head, the more appealing it became.
She sat up. “Alright. We can get coffee, swing by the station, and—”
“Nope.”
“Vi,” Caitlyn turned to plead with her, pressing into Vi’s space and kissing up her jaw, slipping a hand under Vi’s shirt to rest on her well-defined abdomen. She sweetened her voice, remembering Vi’s advice to let them think you have what they want. “Just a quick stop to make sure it hasn’t burned down. Then, we can come back here and—”
“Oh, Janna, I’ve created a monster.” Vi slipped away and off the bed before Caitlyn could even finish her proposition.
Caitlyn huffed. “You think you made me this way?”
Vi crooked an eyebrow. “Pretty sure you never tried to seduce someone to get your way before you met me.”
Letting Vi help her up, Caitlyn headed for the bathroom. Even if Vi refused to let them visit work, a walk around town would clear her head. “That is a gross misrepresentation of what I was doing.”
“Is it? What were you doing then?”
In response, Caitlyn shut the bathroom door between them.
They stopped for food and coffee at the bakery down the street before making their way to the nearby park. Not a very exciting date, but Caitlyn wasn’t complaining. The bakery had her favorite raspberry coffee, and the park was lovely with purple flowers this time of year.
“An entire week off is absurd,” Caitlyn complained as they walked, petals fluttering around them, catching in their hair and clothes.
Vi gave her an unimpressed look. “Cait, you got shot. ”
“I was grazed, ” Caitlyn corrected, touching the edge of the bandages wrapped around her arm. “I’ve had worse wounds from paper cuts.”
“You know most people enjoy paid time-off right?”
Caitlyn wrinkled her nose. “I know.”
“And hey, gives us more time to hang out outside of work. That’s good, right?” Vi nudged her uninjured side.
That brought a smile to Caitlyn’s face. Because Vi was the best girlfriend ever, and sometimes a bit overprotective, she had willingly taken the week off to ‘take care of’ Caitlyn. Mostly, that just meant a lot of cuddles and changing her bandages for her.
“You’re right,” Caitlyn reached for Vi’s hand, threading their fingers together. “I do enjoy spending time with you.”
“Almost as much as you like working?”
“Don’t push it.”
Vi chuckled, squeezing her hand. “I have some ideas for things we can do to distract you.”
“All legal, I hope?”
“More or less. We could try a new restaurant, go to a concert, or visit the dog park.” Vi’s face got increasingly excited as she spoke, until Caitlyn couldn’t help smiling. Maybe missing a few days of work wasn’t the worst thing. “And I thought we could try out the bathosphere.”
Caitlyn’s breath caught. “You want to?”
“I know how much you want to.”
“That sounds lovely.”
Deciding they’d spent enough time outside, Caitlyn started down the street, pulling Vi along with her. Vi didn’t complain, didn’t even hesitate to follow. She just asked, “Where are we going?”
“Home.”
“Already?”
Caitlyn glanced at her, letting her gaze wander meaningfully down Vi’s body, admiring her arms and the tight cling of fabric over her thighs. “I have some of my own ideas on how to pass the time.”
Vi grinned. “Okay, yeah, let’s do that.”
