Work Text:
Kurosawa should’ve never waited that long, he always told himself that it was worth it,that he would’ve waited longer if it meant he could love Adachi.
Now,he regrets it so much.
When he learned by Rokkaku that his lover was hit by a truck, his whole world collapsed. He picked up his stuff in record time and drove as fast as he could. On the road,he didn’t think about anything else than Adachi. His sweet, caring and pretty Adachi. He swore he wanted to cry,but nothing was coming out. He didn't want to cry because maybe he was still alive?
The hospital was cold, colder than it should’ve been. The nurse guided him to the room without saying anything. He wanted to feel warm,he needed the sweet smile Adachi frequently gave him,but it never appeared.
Adachi’s face was white, numb and lifeless, his body looked cold, too cold.
Kurosawa dropped his suitcase on the floor and ran to his side, cuddling up his hand on his boyfriend’s cheek.
-”Adachi,I'm here now, love” But nothing came in response. He didn’t open his eyes, never even had the reaction Kurosawa longed for.
-”Adachi please wake up i’ve missed you so much” Nothing, not a single evidence of life was coming from him. His chest wasn’t moving, his chest wasn’t moving.Kurosawa had to repeat that in his head twice. He turned his attention to the monitor next to the bed,why wasn’t it making a single sound?
Realization hit him.
-”Adachi? Baby please look at me." He shook his lover’s hand and caressed his hair.
He wasn’t breathing.
—
Adachi never woke up,
And Kurosawa wished he never woke up again as well. It had been 2 weeks, 2 weeks since he’s seen the love of his life for the last time, 2 painful weeks that he’s been alone in their apartment, could he still call it theirs? Adachi’s things were all still there, but why didn’t he come home yet?
He was dead, but to Kurosawa, he was never even gone.
Kurosawa’s been wearing every single piece of adachi’s clothing. In a part of his mind, he believed that if he could still smell him he was still there. Every single part of their apartment was filled with memories. Memories of him, while he was smiling, anxious about work, crying about childish children's movies, laughing, filled with memories of things that made him alive.
But it was now only a piece of imagination.
Kurosawa spent most of his days crying, cooking meals for a mouth that couldn’t eat anymore, folding clothes for someone that couldn’t wear them, cleaning for someone that wasn’t alive. But it kept him occupied from thinking too much.
But that’s when he found it,a letter addressed to Kurosawa Yuichi.
Written in a familiar handwriting.
Dear Yuichi,
I don’t think I’ll ever give you this, but if it ended up in your hand it means I'm probably not home. But, I don’t care about that, now I need to express what I feel about you.
I was never the type to write, but I'm too scared to say it out loud so I think it’s better that way.I’ve never thought I could love someone as much as I love you.You showed me why life was worth living and i don’t think i’ll thank you enough for that.No matter what happens i know i’ll always be by your side because you complete me in a way nobody ever could. I never thought it was important before you stepped into my life, you changed the way I see myself and the way I think about everyone. You showed me my real worth, you brought up a version of me that back then,I always kept for myself because I thought no one would want it.This letter is not much and it’s very short but I was never a romantic so I have no idea how to do this. Please forgive me!
Thank you for loving me as much as I love you.
Love,
Adachi
PS: When I come home, could you cook Katsudon for me? These days I've been craving it like crazy and that way I'll know you read this letter if you make it!!
So Kurosawa did,he cooked the best Katsudon he could. Arranged it to Adachi’s liking with just enough salt to be sure his sweetheart would love it.
He put the plates down on the table after going to get a pen and a sticky note. His handwriting was shaky but he knew Adachi would be able to read it.He carefully ate his meal in silence, smelling Adachi's sweater from time to time to ease his pain. When he took his last bite he had made his decision.
The knife was shining because of the nearby lamp, his reflection was clear in it.He saw Adachi behind him, with the same cute smile he always had.
—
The next day,the knife was no longer shining. The house was empty of existence ,but everything was still in place.Their scents still mixed together creating the perfect harmony they always knew.
Though something was left on the table beside a lifeless hand,a single sticky note.
Hi baby,
I made you your favorite food,I hope you had a good day at work.
I may be gone when you arrive but maybe we’ll see each other soon.
I love you my sweet angel, I’m sorry.
-Kurosawa
Kurosawa Yuichi and Adachi Kyoshi were buried next to each other, but their souls still danced next to one another for eternity as their love never died.
