Work Text:
Rumi and Jinu are enjoying their evening at the porch. Rumi is knitting some socks for their grandchildren. Jinu is reading the newspaper, heavy glasses covering his eyes.
They're both old and retired. Kids are all grown-up, married. Their youngest one had a baby boy last year. So she decided to make cozy socks for him.
Suddenly Rumi stops knitting. "I want some ice cream."
"Sure, I'll get it for you." Jinu puts down his newspaper.
"You should write it down."
"I'll remember it." Jinu waves it off.
"Add some whipped cream too."
"Okay."
"And some cherry on top. Are you sure you'll remember it? Why don't you write it down?"
Jinu scoffs. "Don't treat me like a senile old man, woman. I'll remember this simple thing. My mind is still sharp like a razor." He grabs his cane and starts walking towards the kitchen.
"Really? Is that why you sent our Valentine day card to your boss, Gwi-ma?"
"That was ten years ago!"
Rumi snorts. "Still doesn't change the fact that you forget things. You're old."
"I'm not old. I'm still healthy as a horse!" He lifts up his cane to show off but immediately regrets it. "Ow my back!" He rubs his back as he goes inside, grumbling about stupid arthritis and his old bones.
Rumi starts knitting again. She hears some cluttering sounds inside.
"I hope he gets it right. My stupid husband never listens to me." She tsks.
After twenty minutes later, Jinu finally comes out with a tray in his hand.
“Here,” he says proudly. “Told you I’d remember.”
Rumi looks at the tray.
A glass of orange juice. Scrambled eggs on the plate.
She looks up and glares at her stupid husband.
"I knew you'd forget. Where is the toast?"
