Chapter Text
If you told the Jimin from six months ago that she would be sharing space with her mortal enemies (pigeons), she would have laughed straight in your face. Like full on loud and obnoxious cackles.
And by ‘space’, she means the sky.
Not the ‘I’m taking the plane’ kind of sky, no. She’s literally flying around with these birds, wing to wing, shoulder to shoulder. To her utter distaste.
Jimin didn’t magically grow feathers overnight, no.
But she might have been, somehow, bitten by a radioactive spider that gave her superhuman strength, cat-like agility and sticky fingers.
It all happened one day, as she was strolling through the hallways of Oscorp with the rest of her class. Typical senior year field trip things.
But then she saw a weird room at the back, got curious (maybe she shouldn’t have), sneaked out behind her teacher’s back, and entered said room, just to be met with… thousands of small spiders.
And one thing about Jimin is that she’s not afraid of bugs at all. Quite the contrary actually, she finds them adorable!
So in all her nerd glory, she tried to get closer to one. These spiders looked completely different than the usual ones you can find at the corner of your room, if you’re unlucky enough.
They might have been smaller than the regular ones, but their neon light blue color is what truly caught Jimin’s eyes.
They simply looked… fascinating. Jimin couldn’t help but to wonder how they came to gain this color, how did the scientists modify them, what changed in their systems for them to look like this.
Too many questions for her nerdy brain, but so few answers.
Alas, curiosity kills the cat.
Well here, curiosity took the shape of said spider crawling all over her arm, before suddenly biting the base of her nape.
Not cool spider, not cool.
After that, Jimin came back to her group with the nonchalance of someone who absolutely didn’t do something borderline illegal, only feeling the small sting from the bite in the back of her neck.
But then she came back to her dorm room, tried to pass a mug of tea to her roommate and best friend Aeri. But somehow, the mug wouldn’t leave her hand.
Aeri looked at her, mildly annoyed, thinking that Jimin was playing yet another prank on her.
But Jimin was horrified.
Because what the actual hell?
And here she is, six months after, swinging through the city with the same grace as the insect that bit her. Well, she does hope that she looks cooler than them swinging and doing air figures though!
Aeri, who had known about her secret from day one (thank you sticky mug), helped her design her suit (blue with white web patterns, much to Jimin’s delight because if she has to become a superhero, might as well flash her favorite colors!), and now acted as her woman in the chair.
Even though Aeri actually freaking sucks with technology. Jimin loves her best friend, she really does. But she wishes that she would just stick to fashion design rather than the more nerdy stuff.
That’s where Jimin really shines.
Before, she was a ‘I love dinosaurs and science’ kind of nerd. But now, she became a ‘I need to develop stronger web fluids so I can protect New York better’ kind of nerd.
Awfully different, but still nerdy at core.
But now, she finally got the hang of it! She thinks.
All it took was six months of confusion, endless wounds, scary enemies and the head of the police department dying in her arms.
Who coincidentally had been her father as well.
But she’s doing better now! Jimin knows that she has grown a lot ever since she started her New York vigilante activities, even if she didn’t really have a choice anyways.
But she’s managing! And now, things have become way easier for her.
And to her utmost pleasure, things have been calmer in the city as well. Lately, her patrols only consist of her trying to avoid pigeons, taking care of a few meaningless robbers and helping Joe, the local bodega’s owner, find his fat orange cat back.
Things are cool when you go from being called the ‘Weird Spider Vigilante who’s messing up with anything she touches’ (thank you Mr. Jameson…) to the ‘Friendly Neighborhood Spiderwoman’.
So yeah, Jimin thinks that now, she has grown to like this life.
And she has also grown used to witnessing the most bizarre of things.
But seeing a girl jumping off from a building certainly hadn’t been on her day’s bingo!
Without hesitation, Jimin swinged towards the building with a certain kind of urgency. She isn’t unfamiliar with these kinds of things, although she hates when that happens.
And she won’t let a woman this young do this!
Well, Jimin isn’t sure of the girl’s age per se, since she’s wearing a black facemask and shades.
What a weird getup to jump off a building.
But seeing her stature, she seems to be around Jimin’s age. She thinks.
She’s no anthropological expert! Just a radioactive nerd.
Jimin hurriedly dived after the girl, swiftly catching her in her arms. She couldn’t even hear the girl’s surprised yelp, because the next thing she knew, she had brought them back to the safe surface of the rooftop’s concrete.
“Are you okay?” she panted, both of her hands on the girl’s shoulders.
The girl looked at the floor for a solid second. “I–”
The second she raised her head, Jimin felt something weird. Her spider-senses were tingling, as if warning her of a potential danger.
Which is terribly odd because how can a highschool girl be considered dangerous by her superhuman senses–
Wait.
Jimin’s eyes widened. And so did the girl’s apparently.
Instinctively, Jimin jumped back, pointing a finger in the girl’s direction. “You–!”
“You–!” mirrored the girl, instantly bringing her hood a tad lower, as if to hide her face any further.
Jimin was beyond shocked. She could even say that she was completely and utterly gobsmacked.
It can’t be.
She has a hard time believing it, she really does. But why would her senses have reacted if this girl wasn’t…
Jimin shakily lowered her hand, taking in the situation at hand.
“Did you also… get bit by a radioactive spider..?”
