Work Text:
It happened the day before break.
Draco was to stay at Hogwarts during the Christmas break anyways. He would have loved to see his mother for the holidays but with Narcissa being on house arrest brought the Aurors too. Draco loathed that his mother was under constant supervision seeing as he knew his mother had no evil plans to fulfill. So it was either Hogwarts or Draco trying to enjoy a simple dinner with his mother, while Aurors would be breathing down their necks. He'd rather not choose the latter.
As for Harry, he would have been leaving for Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place, the house he owned. He would then join the Weasleys for Christmas.
But of course, as things usual tended to turn out this way his plans would not end up happening.
The mistletoe had been in ways to say...sporadic throughout December. People suspected it to be jinxed since it had a strange amount appearing out of nowhere around the castle. It would catch you off guard whenever. Students would be having a normal conversation in the hall and when they would go their separate ways, soon find out they couldn't, because what felt like a solid wall, which was essentially true but not visible, was encircling them. For there was an invisible circle trapping the two victims inside it until they kissed, the mistletoe, above, mocking them.
And, unsurprisingly, this exact mistletoe trapping happened to Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy.
It was stupid really how the two boys ended up in this situation seeing as you would never see them talking or anywhere close to each other unless it was a snide remark coming from Draco. And this was one of those cases, Malfoy had to comment on Harry signing a book that belonged to a first-year. The whole ordeal started when the Ravenclaw first-year boy came running up to Harry, begging him to sign his book, saying he was a hero to him. As much as Harry hated this and refused to sign many people's books, shoes, posters, and even broomsticks he just couldn't help but feel guilty later if he didn't sign the boy's book who was looking up at him as if he were a god.
"Er sure." Harry finally said taking a nervous glance around, fearing if other people saw, a big crowd would take their chance and swarm him. But right as Harry began to sign his name, Malfoy walked around the corner with Parkinson and Zabini tailing him.
Great. Harry thought. He glowered at them still holding the little boy's book in his hand.
"Ah what do we have here? Potty actually handing out autographs now, that one." He indicated to the little boy that hid behind Harry's leg. "Must be a special one then or maybe did the chosen one take pity on the young thing?"
Pansy cackled but Zabini just rolled his eyes, Harry narrowed his eyes menacingly at Malfoy over the book, "Shut your mouth, Malfoy."
Draco barked with laughter, "Don't wanna admit huh?"
"I don't have anything to admit but maybe you do." Harry shot back.
Draco took a step forward and said darkly, "And what would that be?"
"That you're just upset that you didn't get your diary signed by the famous Harry Potter."
Automatically Draco's cheeks shot red and Harry smirked in satisfaction.
"H-how dare you, Potter-"
"-assume you wanted me to sign your diary why you actually wanted me to sign your a-" but before Harry could finish his sentence Draco punched him. Harry staggered back holding his nose, the book and pen falling from his hands. The little Ravenclaw made a head-dive for his book then ran off without another look.
"Fuck!" Harry cursed, tilting his head back holding his nose that gushed blood.
For a fleeting moment — that no one saw — Draco flinched at the sight of Harry, a flicker of guilt shown on his face which he covered up quickly at the sound of footsteps coming from around the corridor.
"You bastard," Harry growled now looking at Draco. He ran toward him pulling them both down to the ground there was a lot of rolling around and punching everywhere the boys could reach. They could hear people screaming at them to stop, some telling them to fight. But all was drowned out as the boys continued to bruise.
Soon Harry got the upper hand and dragged Draco up, pushing him against the wall, his right fist holding him up with the collar of his shirt and his left forearm across his neck, slightly choking the Slytherin, who gasped for air clawing at his arm.
"Don't ever," Harry growled pushing the blonde again. "Talk to me again, I'm done with your bullshit."
"N-noted." Draco coughed up. When Harry released him he shoved himself off of Draco and when he fell back he hit what seemed to be a wall.
"Shit, what the hell?" Harry turned around rubbing the back of his head to see at least the quarter of the school staring at the pair.
All seemed silent for a fleeting moment only the shuffle of feet moving across the ground. Then all of a sudden the crowd burst into a roar of commotion of yelling, laughing, and gasping all pointing at Harry and Draco, and pointing above them...
Harry's stomached flipped uncomfortably. He reached a hand out.
No.
He reached another hand out. Fuck. Both flat out in front of him on the invisible wall. It looked like he was a mime. Draco seemed to catch on after he had caught his breath. His hands were resting on his knees and he slowly picked up his head to stare at the crowd. Some were gasping for air as a few rolled around on the floor laughing with tears streaming down their faces.
He ran forward as he saw Harry's hands resting against nothing and BAM he crashed into the cursed wall and that's when he begin to full-on panic.
"No...NO NO NO NO!" He banged against the wall as if he were trapped with a werewolf.
Harry looked up hopelessly, dreading what he knew he would see. It hanged there magically looking oh so peaceful and inviting, but what diabolical intentions it held. Knowing he wasn't going to fight this he stepped back and slid against the wall still looking at the green and white plant while Draco yelled.
"PANSY, PANSY GET A PROFESSOR! PLEASE PLEASE GO!" Draco continued to bang against the wall with a face that was about to face death.
"Oh Draco I'm sorry but you got yourself into this mess." She laughed holding her stomach, next to her stood Blaise, arms crossed he shook his head at Draco with a playful smirk on his face.
"HARRY!"
Harry's neck cracked as he put it right to see Ron and Hermione running towards him.
"Oh hey, guys," Harry said somberly, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Oh, Harry how did this happen?" Hermione said as she made a skidding stop to make sure not to touch the invisible barrier. She bent down to Harry's height glancing at Draco as she did so.
"Not important." He smiled gloomily.
"Mate?" Ron said looking at Draco with loathing and sickness.
"Yeah yeah I know Ron." Harry waved a pathetic hand in Draco's direction, grieving a great sigh.
"Oh Harry, I'm sorry," Ron said shaking his head like it was doomsday.
Harry shrugged.
"Maybe I could break it-"
"Hermione please don't, you could get hurt! Remember what happened to Val from Hufflepuff-" Harry argued with her but she cut him off with a wave of her hand looking firmly committed to the invisible wall in front of her.
"Yes yes, I know what happened to Val from Hufflepuff." She said impatiently. "She just wasn't focused that's all..." Hermione raised her wand while she said this, a dead focus in front of her, and before Harry could protest she flicked her wand, and a dull purple color spark shot out of it. The spell hit the wall with an anticipated smile from Hermione hoping it would break, but turned into fright as she shrieked and ducked as the spell bounced off the wall and came hurling back at her. Instead, the spell had knocked Pansy Parkinson off her feet.
"Oh no...well I suppose I could try another one." Draco who now realized what she just did widen his eyes in fear and he glared at Hermione shaking his head.
"Hell no Granger, I think not, unless you know what you're doing don't try anything else, I don't wanna get blown up with your stupidest," Draco said folding his arms.
Hermione scoffed and her wand fell to her side. "Oh, I'm sorry Malfoy, do you want to kiss my best friend because I can happily walk away right now-"
"NO! I'm sorry I'm sorry." Draco rushed, realizing his mistake. His hand on the wall again looking like a caged animal. "I didn't mean it like that." Draco pleated, his face full of fear.
"Hermione, just try another one," Ron said coming to stand next to her his face full of despair. It seemed he was just as scared as Malfoy if not more.
"I mean I guess I could try if Malfoy could trust that I'm not gonna try and harm him." She said through her teeth.
"I trust you I trust you, just please." He said banging against the wall again.
But before Hermione could do anything Headmistress McGonagall and Professor Flitwick and Professor Sprout came around the corner.
"Miss Granger if you would please lower your wand..."
Said, McGonagall. Hermione's face went red as she stepped back.
"Could someone please tell me what happened?" she said looking around at them all. Her eyes landing on Harry who was still sitting on the ground and Malfoy against the wall, which of course McGonagall did not know yet was there, so it appeared he was leaning against nothing.
When she had said this the whole crowd had started yelling all sorts of things, some not true at all.
"Please please silence! Oh nevermind, just Potter and Malfoy I think it would be best if you'd explained."
"Mistletoe ma'am." Said Harry heavily pointing up at the little plant.
"Oh dear...could you get the other students to leave." She said to Flitwick and Sprout. They both yelled at the crowd to continue onward, lots complaining wanting to see how this whole thing would play out soon it was just McGonagall, Hermione, Ron, Blaise, Pansy, and of course Harry and Draco, unfortunately.
"Well couldn't you two just...kiss?" McGonagall said and it wasn't just Harry and Draco's shouts but Ron's too who was shaking his head so fiercely Harry was afraid it was going to come off.
"Professor could you just get us out of here, please," Draco asked.
"Mister Malfoy I'm afraid that I can not do anything of the sort, you two will have to work this out yourselves."
"WHAT!" Harry, Draco, and Ron all said at the same time.
At this Harry stood up, he was sure McGonagall was going to get him out of this, and now his only hope deflated and his stomach turned uneasy again.
He was not going to kiss Malfoy and that was final.
"But what if we refuse!" Harry said madly and Malfoy turned his head to look at him and he nodded agreeing with Harry for the first time in his life.
"Well, Potter I'm sure you do not want to spend the night here surly." Said Professor McGonagall.
"I will if I have to." Said Harry sitting back down with his arms folded like a stubborn child.
"Very well." Said McGonagall with a slight sneaky smile.
"You lot better be off to your next class, I suppose Malfoy and Potter will not be able to go to class until they solve their... little problem," gesturing at the two boys "Well, I best be off...good luck." She added with a quick glance at Harry and Draco, she was gone within another two seconds.
"Well I guess that's it Harry, please figure this out, I mean I guess it's not that bad it's just one kiss..."
"Hermione no, we'll figure something else out," Harry said. "And maybe after class you could go to the library or something and figure out how you can help us get out of here?"
"I'll try Harry, no promises. I have class to focus on."
"I know, I know."
Pansy then giggled, "well good luck you two, call me back when you decide to kiss!" She dragged Blaise along, Draco sneered.
"Harry...I don't know what to say, we've been through so much together-"
"For goodness sake Ronald he is not on his death bed!" Hermione shook her head. "Figure this out Harry or I'm afraid Ron is going to assume the longer your gone the closer you are to dying, and I'll try to look, we must go now, and Malfoy," Draco's head whipped around at the mention of his name. "Play nice."
And Hermione and Ron left. Harry gulped, how in the world was he gonna figure this out if Hermione couldn't? And did Hermione mean figure out a spell that could break the mistletoe? Or did she mean to figure out his feelings towards Malfoy, talk it out, then kiss it out? Harry liked the first one better but he wasn't sure that was the one Hermione had meant...
An hour had already passed and neither had said a single word to each other. Harry picked at the loose strings on his robes while Draco stared off into the corridor his knees to his chest. His face was not fearful anymore or angry but relaxed and forlorn.
Harry absentmindedly wonder who was going to speak first. Or maybe they wouldn't speak at all and they would sit there forever and rot. Harry sighed. Was it really that bad? Just one kiss? Yes, Harry confirmed, it was.
He stood up. Draco looked up at him, eyes narrowed suspiciously.
"What are you doing?" I guess Draco was the first to speak Harry thought nonchalantly, eyes narrowing, somewhat annoyed for some reason, maybe it was the fact that Draco dared to say anything to him, let alone ask a question, Draco was the one who started this mess, his voice was just so- Harry didn't know anymore, his thoughts didn't make sense to him. They were jumbled with overlapping emotions.
He. was. just. annoyed.
"I'm standing."
"No shit, why?" Draco retorted.
Harry took out his wand, tapping it against his pants, "I'm going to get us out of here."
"Woah I just got chills," Draco said sarcastically, his face in fake surprise.
"Do you want me to get us out of here or not?"
"Of course I do, I just don't think you're fit for the task that is."
Harry rolled his eyes. "Has anyone tried a counter charm yet?" Harry asked the brat, ignoring his last comment completely.
"I'm not sure there is one," Draco said shrugging. He pulled his knees tightly to his chest wrapping his arms around them.
Harry frowned and then went back to the task at hand.
It was again an hour later and Harry and Draco found themselves covered in bits of stone gravel. Harry had accidentally hit the floor with a charm that made a hole in the ground. At that point, he wasn't really trying to get them out because he gave up on that about forty-five minutes ago. Anger had taken over, so blowing up the ground and getting Draco dirty helped him feel a bit more better about the situation they were in. When Draco asked if the gravel that was getting in his precious hair was necessary for their break out of this hell, Harry just implied lied to him, and said he was trying his very hardest.
Harry pocketed his wand again and slid back down against the wall. He pushed his hair back with both hands, defeated.
"Hmm, yes so beneficial." Draco commented flicking tiny stones off his robes.
"Would you like to try know-it-all?"
Draco looked up from his project of getting all the gravel off of him. "No, I wouldn't, because I know nothing is going to work, I just sat here for an hour watching an idiot do absolutely nothing but destroy the floor and get me dirty, but what I would like to do is sit here peacefully until someone figures a way to get us out."
Harry clenched his teeth together. "So you mean Hermione right?"
"If she can find the right book then maybe." Draco shrugged.
"She'll have to find something, I hope she does." Harry sighed.
It was quiet for a little while longer, the only sound was Draco cursing under his breath as he found more gravel on his pants.
"What do you suppose?" Draco asked after a while, he finished getting all the rocks off of him and now the side of his face was pressed against the wall looking at Harry.
Harry didn't answer at first. He was still annoyed, annoyed at this whole situation Draco got them in, annoyed that they were forced to be together in this circle, and most of all annoyed how part of him, even it was really really small, was curious what it would be like to kiss the blonde.
Fuck.
He shifted his position so he was now fulling facing Draco. "Let's talk."
Draco snorted. "What?" He laughed.
"Talk, just talking, have a conversation, I mean we have nothing better to do." In the back of Harry's head, a little voice that sounded much like Hermione repeated over and over: it's just one kiss
Not a fat chance, Harry told the voice.
"Potter, if this is some way for us to end up kissing-"
"No! what? Ew! ... I really just want to talk, I mean I'm really bored and-"
"Alright fine maybe it'll pass the time until someone finds a way to get us out," Draco said sitting up and facing Harry.
"What are we supposed to talk about?" Draco added.
Harry now just realized that Draco's face was really bad, he had a cut lip and bruised eye, there were bits of blood in his hair and on his shirt.
Harry reached up to touch his own face, his nose seemed to be broken again. "Well Malfoy, I'll have to put it on your record that this is the second time you have broken my nose."
Draco chuckled slightly, "I'm sorry, do you want me to fix it?"
"You're sorry?"
Draco's eyes had widened he didn't realize what he said, "well no- I mean- Potter I don't mean-"
"Malfoy, really, it's fine, I know you're not used to saying sorry."
"Here let me just..." and Malfoy got out his wand pointed it at Harry's nose and SNAP his nose was back to normal.
"Thanks." he paused before continuing "Do you want me to heal your cuts?"
"What? Oh...I mean if you want..." Draco said looking anywhere but Harry.
Harry got out his wand. He scooted closer to Draco, their knees barely touching. Draco instinctively scooted back till he was pressed against the invisible wall.
"Malfoy, stay still I'm trying to help." And again Harry scooted forward, this time their knees touching. Harry reached up with a delicate hand placing it gently onto Draco's cheek. Draco looked as if he were about to be murdered.
"Would you relax?" Harry said shaking his head in the ridiculousness of it all smiling at the Slytherin. He pointed his wand at each individual wound at one by one the cuts vanished and the bruises cleared without a trace. "All better," Harry whispered, his hand falling from the pale face.
Draco reached up and ran a finger over his lip, "thank you."
"I mean I'm the one who hurt you, might as well heal you."
"But I threw the first punch," Draco said tilting his head.
"You did, but still."
"You're too kind Harry Potter," Draco said smirking.
"Shut up." Harry laughed, he didn't know what came over him.. acting all nice to him now. This feeling...
"So I guess you're leaving for Christmas break." Draco said after a couple of minutes.
"I am." Harry said, Draco looked upset. "Are you?"
"No, I'm staying." There was a gloomy shadow on Draco's face as he said this.
"Why?"
"I-." Draco took a deep breath. "Because of the Aurors."
Harry knew about the Aurors. He was there at Narcissa's trial. No wonder Draco didn't want to back.
"I'm sorry." Harry said. "That sucks."
Draco didn't say anything.
Harry did want to stop this stupid rivalry between them and he had a feeling Draco did too. It had been seven years and still after the war they were still at it. The problem was that they both were so used to fighting with each other that they never thought to apologize.
And it went back to being silent but then the bell rang.
"Oh god," Harry said closing his eyes and he put his face in his hands.
Draco wasn't too happy either. "People are gonna stare, why did this happen to me."
And Draco was right people did stare and did more than that. Draco's face had gone beet red when a group of girls walked by chanting: "Kiss kiss kiss!"
Hermione and Ron stopped by to check on him.
"Still hanging in there Harry?"
"Yep, Hermione did you try to find a way to get us out of here yet." Harry asked.
"No not yet." Said Hermione. "Have you tried anything?"
"Well..." Harry started but Draco interrupted.
"No all he did was blow up the floor."
"Oh." Said Hermione looking down at the broken floor. "Hadn't noticed."
"Well if nothing you know works or I.... maybe you could persuade a professor to get us out, because I know McGonagall could she just didn't want to." Said Harry.
"She was lying? How do you know?" Asked Ron.
"I could just tell, it's amusing to her that we're in here."
"But-" Ron stared but Hermione interrupted. "We should be going Harry, and I'll try to ask around, bye!"
"Thanks!" Harry called out as they walked away.
"She better find someone, I can't live in here," Draco said.
"Yeah," Harry agreed, "how are your friends."
"Are we talking again?"
"Yes." he said all too quickly.
Draco looked very apprehensive but sighed and looked in a random direction giving in. "I mean I don't know Pansy and Blaise were a real comfort to me after the war, we talked about so many things...so I've been getting closer with them...why am I telling you this?" Draco looked back at Harry with an exasperated expression, sneering.
"I don't know maybe because you're bored...either way I'm glad you shared."
Draco looked as if he was going to say something but decided not to because he looked away again.
"What did you want to say?" Harry found himself asking.
"Nothing."
"It's not nothing Malfoy, it looked like you've been waiting to say it for a long time," Harry said slowly and he did, his face showed it all, it was like he was trying very hard not to tell Harry but at the same time, he wanted to tell him.
Draco closed his eyes. "Potter, it's nothing I swear."
"Fine," Harry said stubbornly and twisted around so he couldn't look at Draco.
Only seconds later Draco spoke, "I-I just wanted to thank you...for that day at the ministry at my hearing when you spoke for me. You're the reason I'm not rotting in a cell in Azkaban right now."
Harry turned around slowly and saw the broken face of Draco Malfoy, Harry could tell that was very difficult for him to say.
"You don't deserve to be in there Malfoy...and you saved my life I was only returning the favor."
"What favor?" Draco asked bewildered. "You saved my life plenty of times after that day at my manor."
"Malfoy you might not be the best person in the world but like I said you don't deserve to be locked up."
Draco was silent for a minute then he nodded looking at the floor and said quietly, "thank you, Potter."
"You're welcome."
A new side of Malfoy was looking at Harry right now and it was the vulnerable kind and he looked so fragile. Harry didn't know what to think.
"Harry," Draco started. "I'm sorry for what I became."
The use of the first name made him rethink everything, and the way he said it because before Harry knew it Draco broke, a tear was running down his cheek. How had he been a prick one second and now he was crying? Apologizing? This Harry didn't understand.
"Malfoy...don't be sorry it wasn't your fault, Voldemort-" And Harry knew what he was talking about of course. He knew Draco regretted being a death eater and what he did but he was forced into it.
"No, it is my fault, I-I was happy- Happy he chose me, how I regretted it the moment I realized that I couldn't do it, kill- after that night I didn't know what side I was on but all I knew was that I didn't want to be a death eater. I regret it every day Harry, every single fucking day, I have to look at it on my arm a-and I just can't-" Draco choked back a sob, he covered his wrist with his hand.
This was not how Harry guessed his day would go at all, stuck by mistletoe with Draco Malfoy who was confessing what he assumed was blotted up waiting for the right time to say this to him. Clearly, Draco wanted Harry to know he was sorry, and Harry believed him all the way.
Harry watched as Draco cried not really knowing what to do. He slid across the floor and sat right next to Draco his shoulder touching his.
Draco's crying stopped and then with one last sniff he looked at Harry with red eyes. "What are you doing?" He said in a small voice. "You hate me."
Harry had to laugh at that, "Malfoy! I don't hate you, don't say that please."
"But I-"
"No, that's all in the past."
"I guess," Draco said unconvinced. "Are you gonna move?"
"I came over here to comfort you like any reasonable human would when another is crying."
"See what I mean, Harry Potter is too nice for his own good."
Harry rolled his eyes playfully.
"And I wasn't crying," Draco said suddenly straightening up and wiping his face.
"You're funny Malfoy, I need your humor in my life," Harry said for grins.
"So dark humor?" Draco said. "It's the only thing I know."
"Oh stop being so depressing but if that's what you want to call in then yes," Harry said.
"I think we both have dark humor, you made a joke about me breaking your nose twice," Draco said.
"Eh." Said Harry and they laughed, a good real laugh like two old friends meeting each other after years.
"We are never getting out of here are we?" Draco said between laughs.
"Nope," Harry said and they laughed even harder.
You could if you two just kissed.. Harry's little Hermione in the back of his head spoke again and he pushed it away with the thought of kissing Draco- no wrong thought, that didn't help, but as he tried to think of anything else nothing came to mind. All that swam in his head was the thought of kissing the blonde that laughed right next to him. But that was absurd; why wouldn't the thought go away he had no interest in kissing Malfoy but then again the more he thought about it the more he wonders what it would be like to kiss the Slytherin.
Draco had stopped laughing and looked at Harry and his face fell, Draco wondered what he was thinking he looked concerned. "Hey, you ok?" He ended up asking.
Harry deep in thought jumped at the question. "Yeah yeah, I fine why?"
"You seemed deep in thought, anyway are we good now? You know like on good terms?" Draco asked hopefully.
Harry smiled, "of course we are." And he held out his hand.
Draco laughed and shook it. "I just had an odd sense of deja vu."
"Same." Said Harry smiling.
They let go and looked into each other's eyes a second more than they should have, they broke eye contact and friendly silence greeted them. Being on good terms with Malfoy felt light, a peaceful feeling inside his chest.
"Gosh, I'm tired." Yawned Draco stretching his arms in front of him.
"Did you not sleep?" Asked Harry.
"Yeah I slept but I think you're draining all my energy it's very tiring being in here with you," Draco said smoothly as he smirked at Harry.
Harry shook his head smiling at him humorlessly. "Then sleep if you're tired."
"What?" Draco said perplexed.
"Sleep, maybe by the time you wake up we'll be out of here." Harry shrugged.
"I doubt that, but I'm not sleeping." Draco folded his arms annoyed.
"I was just making a suggestion...I can see the bags under your eyes though." Harry pointed under Draco's eyes and Draco slapped his hand away looking distrust.
"Don't look under my eyes!" Draco snapped his eyes widening.
"You're ridiculous Malfoy." Laughed Harry.
"Ok, I guess that was a bit stupid." Admitted Draco sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck.
"It was, but that is just you." Harry said and when he saw Draco's eyebrows raised he added, "like your personality, how you act."
"So you're calling me stupid?" Draco shot back.
"What? No! Stop making stuff up in your head! I mean that you do say and do things without thinking sometimes."
"That's being stupid!"
"Draco! You're the one who's just calling yourself stupid! I'm not saying you're stupid I'm just saying-"
"You just called me Draco." Malfoy had cut him off so abruptly that Harry choked on his last word as he heard what Draco said.
Harry coughed, "So what? You called me Harry earlier." Harry's cheeks were red.
"I didn't-" started Draco.
"But you did." Harry finished.
Draco took a second to think, going back to many minutes ago when he- then his face fell suddenly.
"...oh I guess I did."
"Why'd you do it anyway?" Harry asked generally curious.
"I- I don't know, I wasn't thinking is all."
Harry clicked his tongue in approval. "You can call me Harry I don't mind."
"Potter, I'm not going to call you Harry."
"You just said my name."
"I- damnit don't do that," Harry was laughing. "Hey! Stop it! I was just saying that I'm not going to call you Harry but I wasn't calling you Harry."
Harry laughed even harder at the weird hand gestures Draco was doing. "You Ha! you did it, hahaha you did it again!"
Draco scowled at him, "shut it Potter."
Harry finally stopped laughing, "Draco but I insist you call me by my given name."
"Well I insist you don't!" snapped Draco.
"Nope, I like Draco."
"Ugh fine!" Draco slapped his hands on his knees annoyed.
Another hour passed and Harry found the blonde sleeping on his shoulder, he chuckled quietly when Draco's eyes closed and he fell on Harry's shoulder clearly asleep. Well, he wasn't kidding about being tired thought, Harry.
Draco's hand somehow got on Harry's knee when he fell asleep and Harry stared boredly at Draco's hand studying it. He had a Slytherin symbol ring on his pointer finger, a midnight black ring on his ring finger, and a silver one on his middle finger. His nails had chipped with black paint on them. Harry had thought of panting his nails this year just to see how it would look but he thought better of it. He remembered the time when Ron cringed at the thought of Draco buying a necklace during their sixth year, thinking it was for Draco. Which of course it was not, but it was still rude Harry thought if it were for himself to wear.
With an impulse Harry didn't know he had, he reached out with his hand to trace the rings on Draco's fingers. Heedlessly he took Draco's hand in his lifting it slightly to see the paint on his nails more clearly. Draco's hand was ice cold, it had become quite chilly in the corridor. To solve this issue he placed Draco's hand gently back down and got out his wand.
He cast a heating charm on him and Draco, he could feel the hot air around them. He reached for Draco's hand again, it was warm. He smiled.
"It's not cold anymore," Draco said sleepily.
"I know, go back to sleep." Whispered Harry letting go of Draco's hand and putting his wand back.
He needed to get out of here. Where was Hermione? Did she find a professor yet that could help them? Did Ron think Draco had killed him?
These questions were answered when the bell rang for lunch. Draco shot straight up.
"What happened?" He asked frantically and tiredly.
"You feel asleep." Harry said amusingly.
"I did?"
"Yep."
"Huh, I don't remember, I'm hungry."
"Of course you are, it's lunch time but we can't do anything...unless."
"Are you really suggesting that we kiss?"
"No Draco, I was just saying we can accio food."
Draco blushed. "Right."
Harry smirked, he pulled out his wand "Accio sandwiches!"
Two sandwiches flew into Harry's hands seconds later.
"Here." Harry handed Draco one of the sandwiches.
"Thanks." Said Draco raising his sandwich in toast.
"Hey Harry!" Ron said walking up to them with Hermione who looked worried.
"I bought food I thought you might be-" he saw the sandwiches. "Hungry." He finished off dully.
"Thank you Ron, we have food but could we have the drinks in your hand."
Ron looked hurt a bit but smiled and tossed two drinks at him.
"Did you find anyone then?" Asked Harry and Draco looked at Ron and Hermione hopefully.
"No but I found a solution."
"And what's that?" Asked Draco.
"Well I was reading and came across a unique spell that I never heard before."
"Well what is it?" anxiously said Harry.
"It's called leguinovis yes yes I know it sounds fake but I tried it on another mistletoe and it vanished."
"Well that's great!" Said Harry standing up and getting out his wand and pointing it towards the mistletoe.
"Harry wait!"
"What Hermione you said it makes it vanish and if you can't tell I'm really anxious to get out of here."
"Yes yes yes but I never said it worked when it had people trapped."
Harry lowered his wand. "Ok...well how do you know?"
"It was in the book, it said that you can clear the mistletoe when it's not holding people but it said if you were to try it when it was then...something bad would happen to the people who were supposed to kiss."
"Is that it? What would happen."
"It didn't say."
"Bullshit." Said Draco standing up, "if it just said something bad was going to happen without going into detail in sounds like some students made up this spell, which works like you said but not when people are under neath or something bad would happen? It sounds to me like the kid was just trying to scare whoever was trapped into kissing so they don't get cursed or something."
No I don't believe it for a second." Draco turned to Harry. "Do it Harry, get us out of here."
Harry turned to Hermione who's jaw had dropped, "he's got a point Hermione."
"Yeah I know he does." Said Hermione. "But it does not mean he is right! Harry you to could get hurt or something. Just kiss! It's really not that bad!"
"Let me ask you something Hermione, if you were trapped in here with Malfoy would you kiss him?" Harry knew the answer of course she wouldn't kiss Malfoy, besides Ron would probably rip Draco's head off. Harry still had that voice in his head. And he couldn't help it.
Hermione opened her mouth but then closed it again.
"That's what I thought."
"I would Avada Kedavra myself." Ron said.
"Ron! Don't say that!" Hermione slapped his arm.
"If no one is going to it, then I will." Said Draco taking out his wand and pointing it at the mistletoe above. And before Hermione could scream no, he
said the spell.
Nothing happened, well the mistletoe vanished and the invisible wall was gone but no one was cursed or hurt as far as anyone new.
"Well I'll see you later then Harry," Draco said, he turned toward Ron and Hermione. "Granger, Weasley." He said in goodbye as he dipped his head at them. He walked off.
And as much as Harry wanted to get out of there he couldn't help but feel empty now. Draco always made him feel something besides sad. And whatever feelings Draco made Harry have he wanted them back. Hermione was right. She always was.
