It was a morning in Elmore, the sun rose slowly on the horizon, and the Watterson house sat quietly with the soft snores of the residents inside, sleeping soundly away till the light of the sun told them otherwise, but that moment isn't too far from now as the sun peaked over other houses and shone through the Watterson children's window and right into a blue cats eyes, the boy squinted in irritation and promptly turned his body to face the other side, he unconsciously tucked and settled himself back into his bed with a content sigh and a soft smile, till the agonizing sounds of an alarm clock started to beep, it continued to make the wretched noise for a couple more minutes before gumball began to stir, yet the sweet sensation of slumber did gumball held so dear took ahold of him, and so the alarm went on
Beep
Beep
Beep
Beep…
Ok that's enough! Gumball's eyes shot open with irritation, his teeth clenched as he ripped the alarm clock out of the socket and chucked it out the window, that fell onto someone's parked car which made more noise that was 10x more obnoxious then an alarm clock which the feline couldn't help but pull at his skin in anger, it was Saturday! He had a right to sleep all day and the mere chance he did decide to wake up is to only eat a bowl of cereal to then crash on his bed again. Gumball sighed in defeat as a frown formed on his features as his siblings began to stir awake, if the alarm clock didn't wake them then the car outside definitely would. Darwin weakly popped out of his fish bowl and spoke his words of truth “someone turn off the alarm!!” Darwin whined with a tired expression as he swayed back in fourth, most likely due to his sleepiness the three all shared “it's not an alarm, Darwin. it's someone's good for nothing car..” Anais groaned out, as she sat up and rubbed her eyes “what time is it?” The rabbit asked, blinking away the sandy feeling from her eye sockets.
“About 9:00 am or so” gumball shrugged as he began to get comfortable in his bed, already shimmying into the mattress and letting out a sigh of relief upon feeling his head touch his pillow
“I've already been woken up, might as well do something productive” gumball watched his younger sister slowly crawl down the ladder and almost missed a step, the feline bit back a laugh.. he let out a little giggle though - which Anais gave him a glare, she hopped down onto the carpet floor and left the room, but now the car finally shut the freak up, which left gumball and Darwin to finally veg out. The two sunk into their respective beds (or fish bowls) as if they were a type of fungus, it was great. But as soon as Gumball got comfortable, coherent thoughts started to flood in, one being about the hole in their window and one he couldn't quite place.. The blue feline knew it must be important, the mouth on the back of his head chanting “remember, remember, remember..” gumball groaned and rolled his body to face Darwin's side, unlucky for him, his brother seemed to already be in a deep sleep. Gumball sighed and rolled over on his back, he thought about school, then quickly brushed it off, who wants to worry about grades on a Saturday..
Then it hit him, one of the loves of his life, Penny Fitzgerald.. He was practically gawking at the vision his mind put together for him, but then his smile faltered, it faded so fast it would put you into psychosis, penny, date, penny, date with penny, all the pieces snapped together, it clicked, he had a date with penny! At 10:00 ! Why would they pick a time like that, oh right.. They wanted to eat breakfast at dinner, so much for trying to be different.
Gumball slapped his hands on his face, he'd have to leave by 9:30 then.. And so the poor blue cat had to leave the confines of his luxurious bed, oh how lovely it looked at this moment exactly, but the women he loved awaited him, gumball walked towards the drawer and pulled out his iconic sweater and his jeans, tossing away his bed clothes else where, his shorts happen to hit Darwin's glass which shot him awake. The goldfish looked around in panic before locking eyes with his brother.
“Oh, sorry dude!” The feline said, hopping with one leg as he tried to balance himself with pulling one of his legs through the pants hole
“I thought we telepathically agreed we'd do nothing all day?” Darwin said, coughing a bit at the morning dryness that appeared in his throat. Gumball gave a little ‘eeeh..’
“I totally forgot me and penny had a date today, don't worry I have it under control” the feline said as he began pulling out a full body mirror from where ever and started doing his hair in various different styles, Darwin raised a brow “how about ditch the hair style” he said, resting his elbow on the edge of his fish bowl.
Gumball paused, gave Darwin a good look, squinting in the process - before scoffing and shaking his head violently back into his regular self, the goldfish nodded in approval
“So I look good?”
“Better than normal I guess”
The goldfish teased
“Ill take it”
The two brothers shared a laugh before gumball sucked in a breath and yelled “gotta go dude!” but mid running stance gumball panned between the hole in the window and their bedroom door, he did this for a couple of seconds, his poor brother was about to disable the option of jumping out the window but the chaotic cat was already out and on his way but not without the sound of a full body slamming into the concrete with a very audible splat sound, Darwin face palmed.
“uurghh..” Gumball groaned in agony, pulling his face off the concrete felt like pulling gum from under some counter.. The feline got on his knees and felt his face, it felt flat, he stumbled to stand up and kicked the back of his head to regain depth, he sighed and relief and took running, the concrete burned with fire as a determined cat zoomed through Elmore, the cars that drove on the street taking deadly stops to not risk running over the young boy. And into the Elmore mall he went, no distractions, no one to slow him down, just him and Penny, gumball ran past the escalators and there he stood in front of dinner.. The diner.. Not to get it confused, and there was the fairy, as radiant as ever, standing outside tapping her feet and holding her hands together, the fairy glanced around before locking eyes with her loved one, gumball. Her eyes widened and she smiled brightly, waving, gumball smirked and walked over “gumball! Right on time” she checked her phone for the time and looked back up ”that's new for you” she continued
“Anything for you baby”
Gumball gave her the finger guns and a wink, penny playfully rolled her eyes and nudged his shoulder “I'm glad you agreed to do their special breakfast meal, I really wanted some pancakes”
“Of course! Anything for you my love” gumball said bowing towards one of the booths, the fairy giggled and took a seat, pulling out the menu and opening it, eyeing the different types of pancakes
“I want the double Decker pancakes”
She said tapping the menu
“Thats a lot”
Gumball said when flipping the page to actually look at the thing “It takes up the entire one side of the menu”
“Hehe, I'm going to box it and share it with my family, we'll have pancakes for days.”
The fairy told gumball about her very awesome pancake plan which the feline could only sternly nod to, his respect for her rising
“Well, can't go wrong with chocolate pancakes.” He smiled at her and closed the menu, and in the nick of time Karen walked by and asked them for what they'd like to order, and of course asked if they wanted their limited breakfast pancake crap. The couple gave Karen their orders, writing it down on a little notepad before leaving, but not without a thank you by the two. The two sat in silence for.. About 10 seconds before Penny spoke up “so.. I also wanted to talk to you about something” gumball looked up, as he was fiddling with his sweater sleeve “whats up?”
“Ya know rob?”
Gumball seemed to jump at the name but then started blushing “yeah, what about him?”
“you two seem to be a little.. Awkward around each other now that we've started dating.”
Penny gave him a concerned yet loving smile
The feline perked up, putting his paws on the table
“It's only like that because we've never been anything but nemesis, so.. It's hard to really get used to it.” Gumball rubbed his shoulder awkwardly, the blush still present on his features, then he looked at Penny who wore a sad expression and he raised his hands in defense “I'm not saying I want to go back to being nemesis of course! I really love what we have.. If I were to describe it, It'd be how you and I started, lovesick fools” gumball explained while giving his girlfriend a weary smile, the fairy's face brightened “I'm glad, hated that nemesis thing.. Robs too pretty to only be a nemesis” penny giggled “but I think you need to make a little bit of an effort, so I've come up with multiple ways you can express yourself towards each other” as she pulls out a pink binder
“Scuse me?”
“You've been in this awkward stump for weeks now, you feel most comfortable around me though I've noticed” Penny tapped her chin with a pen that was wedged in the binder “but we need to fix that, one step at a time, I'll be your wingman! Or wingal..”
“Wha-”
“First off,” She interrupted “the whole reason we all started dating was because we both knew rob loved us both, even when we all started to hang out” penny clamped her hands together “he needed you more than anything, and what was rooted in hate was actually love, but it seems rob isn't too ready let alone knows anything about relationships”
“I- where'd you get that information from?”
“it's pretty obvious, gumball”
Gumball thought for a moment, the two still bantered like any old nemesis, the two shared a couple hugs.. Rob's awkward mannerisms when gumball said anything remotely nice about him, flinching away when Penny tried to hold his hand with a flustered expression. Oh, yeah it's pretty obvious, was he always this dense and unobservant?
“I see what you mean”
“Great! You two should go on your first date, just the two of you, without me”
“But I love you!”
Gumball dramatically slouched in his chair, penny rolled her eyes as Karen brought out the pancakes, the couple thanked her and they began eating
“Okay well.. I can do that home dinner I did for you?” he took another bite
“You mean the time you accidentally left the lasagna in the oven and caused your kitchen to burst up in flames?” penny deadpanned-
Gumball paused mid chew and swallowed thickly “in my defense, I really wanted to impress you and wasn't paying attention to the actual food” gumball snatched a napkin and cleaned his face, the fairy rolled her eyes “it's still a good idea!”
“You two can always watch a movie and play games” she suggested-
“cheesy, I love it”
Gumball said waving his fork with two whole pancakes stuck on it, he opened his mouth wide to eat it whole as he began to chew
obnoxiously “awesome!” Penny took a bite of her pancakes as well, less messy then what gumball did, noticing some syrup dripping from his mouth she handed him a napkin, with a stuffed mouth gumball said “thank you”
After he swallowed he began to ask what he should do “I'll watch from a window or something if things truly goes south” penny shrugged while taking another bite, gumball felt embarrassed being watched as a grimace appeared on his features “not creepy at all” the feline joked with a nervous laugh “I have to make sure you don't burn down the house that's it.” Penny came to her defense, she noticed gumballs weary expressions and sighed "I shan't medal if you somehow mess everything up then.. Just worried ya’know?, but I trust you” she held his hand with a bright smile present on her features “thanks” Gumball smiled warmly “I got this babe, I'll romance him so hard he'll fall head over heels, literally!” the feline now was standing on the table with his fist in the air
“whatever motivates you”
Penny shrugged, as her lips curved into a smile
Gumball was now home and now setting up their dinner table, Darwin walked into the room holding a drink “what're you doing?” The curious gold fish asked, Gumball turned “getting ready for a date” he replied, still setting the dishes on the table “ what would rob like..” The feline mumbled, inaudible towards anyone around him, Darwin raised his brow “didn't you get back from a date with penny hours ago?” Darwin peeks over his brothers shoulder as he watched gumball stupidly fumble with making the napkin look straight, gumball didn't answer in his concentration, soon gumballs father migrated into the room sniffing- “whats cooking? ” he asked as he was practically floating towards the kitchen, gumballs eyes widened “dad no! Away from the oven” gumball screeched, his voice cracking while the boy rushed towards the kitchen, the boy tugged on his fathers shirt “why can't i” Richard sulked
“because it's not even cooked yet and also- it's not for you!” the feline's voice reeked with warning as he practically hissed at his father, Richard jumped and whined while exiting the kitchen in defeat “ugh, wheres the drinks- AH anais! Dads trying to steal the food!” gumball called for help as he pushed against his fathers stomach, “dad! Gumballs making dinner for his date leave him be, lets get joyful burger or something” anais yelled with an Exasperated sigh as she tugged on him “date? Why didn't you tell me, son” Richard paused “I was busy, but I need y'all out!” Darwin peaked into the kitchen where everyone was after a long while of silently observing “date with who?!”
“Rob!”
The room gone silent “oh yeah, I forgot you two started dating” Darwin said after a while of silence
Gumball's face turned red from embarrassment “it's just I haven't done anything for him since we started dating, nothing ya know.. Romantic”
“Thats weird, you always go over the radar when it comes to big gestures” Darwin pointed out, taking a loud sip of his milkshake
“Well I'm going to fix it, dangnabit! if it's the last thing I do!” he raised a finger to emphasize his dedication
Anais rose a brow
“So a dinner date? Remember the lasagna-”
“I remember the lasagna!” Gumball interrupted “it won't happen again, not if you keep distracting me!” the feline said as he started easing everyone out the house “just a couple hours of me and me only in this house”
“And rob” Richard said with a goofy smile
“And rob.” gumball parroted with a sigh - and before all three of them knew it they were out the door with a loud slam
Gumball rushed towards the kitchen and began prepping some other foods, simple foods he was able to cook that is, thanks to “mommy son bonding time” Nicole would call it he learned how to independently make cookies, without Darwin's help, though Darwin made a mean chocolate chip cookie, gumball shook his head from his thoughts and made a few sandwiches, he bought mango pudding cups because he noticed rob eyed them when him and Darwin followed him into the market, gumball never thought to ask if he liked them but he went with his guts, it's been half an hour since the feline sent that text to rob about coming over, he never specifically said it was a date but let's hope robs not too bothered by that, though the blue cat couldn't help but nervously tap his foot against the kitchen tile, he thought about penny, he wished he had her guidance but he wanted to do this by himself like he's done for her, it's not that different anyways! He nervously laughed at himself as he kicked away the step stool he was using to reach the counter as he carried the tray of sandwiches towards the dining table and sliding it smoothly against it
He looked up and glanced at the clock, he smiled, he had plenty of time, the boy ran towards the fridge and looked through the drink options.. Lemonade, milk or orange juice, who drinks milk with sandwiches? Next! Orange juice, good option, everyone likes the good ol Oj.. But it felt like a breakfast drink rather than drink date material, lemonade, seemed fancy enough, he grabbed the pitcher and quickly darted back towards the dining room and prepared the drinks as well, then a knock came from the door, gumball rolled his eyes, “i swear you all I told you not to come back for an hour!” Gumball opened the front door to a confused cyclops, Rob gave his boyfriend a shy wave and an awkward smile, gumball screeched and slammed the door in the poor boys face, Rob blinked in confusion
The feline regretted slamming the door in the Cyclops’ face as it all washed over him like a tidal wave, “He's here! And he's early!” he whispered yelled, Gumball needed to be brave, and he needed to apologize anyways, he hoped he didn't get the wrong idea by slamming the door on him, gumball opened the door open and thank everyone he's ever loved rob still awaited him “Heyy dude” gumball opened the door wider giving him an awkward smile, Rob still wore a confused expression but sighed with a smile “gumball..” The cat heard him mumble, “hey” the Cyclops finally responded “You're early” gumball cut to the chase but rob looked equally more confused then he did before “you told me to come at 12:00?”
The feline blinked so he checked his phone, and low and behold he did say 12:00, gumball sucked in a breath “okay so that's my bad but it's fine it's like a real restaurant you wait for your food!” The feline stepped out the door frame and directed Rob towards the dining room “real restaurant?” The Cyclops asked with a smile as Gumball still directed him towards the area “yes! Are lovely home dinner date- hosted by yours truly, gumball Watterson!!” the blue cat bowed, Rob's eyes widened and the cyclops' face felt warm, he raised a hand to gently touch his cheek as the static on his body shifted to a warm hue “a date?” He nervously asked, and gumball nodded, grabbing robs hand ignoring the way he tensed and pulled out a seat and gently tucked him into the dining table, Rob scratched the back of his head nervously “you didn't tell me”
“A surprise” gumball winked “have a drink” he motioned towards the glass of lemonade which prompted the Cyclops to nod and take it, rubbing the edge of the glass with his finger “you didn't have to do all this” rob gave gumball a warm smile which melted the feline's heart “I wanted to, and I also got you something!” He reached for the pudding he laid out on the counter and handed it towards the cyclops “woah… hey, this is my favorite-”
“I know”
Truthfully, He didn't know, but he needed to act cool
Rob glanced at Gumball at the interruption then back at the pudding, he smiled meekly “thanks, but how?”
The feline shrugged calmly “wild guess”
Rob chuckled “you're weird”
“Aren't we all?”
Gumball nudged robs arm
“I suppose” rob shrugged
“Is Penny coming?” the Cyclops wondered, he didn't intend to sound rude, truly.
“uh- no. Just us” the feline scratched the back of his neck with a grimace
“That was rude wasn't it” Rob facepalmed himself at his insensitivity “sorry, it's just we usually go on dates together, all three of us” the Cyclops clarified, clearing his throat to rid of the nervous tremor “no, i get it, I understand, but we go on singular dates too, like me and penny this morning”
“You went on a date with Penny?”
Rob asked genuinely confused
“oooh, yeah… sorry we didn't tell you”
“Ah- no no it's cool, two whole dates in a day?” The Cyclops took a sip of his lemonade. Rob motioned his eye over to the chair that gumball was meant to sit at, the feline hadn't even noticed he was standing-
The feline nervously laughed and answered the Cyclops’ question “I was excited, nervous and determined.. I was in the moment” gumball said in a mellow tone
“I see” rob smirked at him
“Whatever! You're here now, and we have a long time ahead of us as long as nothing goes wrong!”
“Mhm.. Hey, is something burning?” he sniffed the air, the feline tensed up and darted towards the kitchen as the oven started to smoke “not again!”
“‘Not again’ what?” Rob felt a bit of panic creep in as Gumball rushed into the kitchen “I was distracted!” The feline looked around for anything to settle the smoke as he slowly opened the oven door and good lord the smoke that escaped was insane. Gumball worried about the smoke detector “help me fan the flames!” he called out-
“The hell were you baking?!” Rob burst out of his chair and grabbed a kitchen towel and opened up the kitchen window, gumball groaned and grit his teeth at the strong burnt smell, the two luckily managed to fan away the smoke, the two huffing in exhaustion, sweat dripped from gumballs forehead and he wiped it away “I..” gumball began to speak but Rob was walking towards the oven, inside were a very much burnt batch of chocolate chip cookies, robs eye squinted and then looked towards gumball “cookies, they were cookies..” the feline answered Rob's previous question, Rob sighed, wiping some of the smoke off his cheek. “They're still good! See”
Gumball went to stand beside his boyfriend and picked up a burnt cookie, after spending an embarrassingly long time trying to pry it out of the pan, rob gave gumball an unamused expression, gumball inspected the black circle for a moment, glanced at rob who still wore that same unimpressed expression as the Cyclops awaited for the feline to take a bite and so he did, sorta, it was obviously too burnt, trying to take a bite out of this cookies would be the equivalent of trying to eat a brick, there's no way you're breaking through that other than your own front teeth, the feline, not wanting to give up and prove a point continued to chew, now the cookie was burnt and salivating, rob saw enough, and moved his hand to move his boyfriend's arm down as he shook his head “at that rate you'll end up breaking a tooth rather than breaking a piece of that cookie" the Cyclops didn't sugar coat it as gumball sighed in defeat “lets just.. go sit back down” he rested his hand on the feline's shoulder
The two sat at their respective seats, the tension thick, gumball was embarrassed, Penny would be disappointed. The feline sighed then looked towards rob who was actually eating, he should eat too, he thought, he took a big bite out of the sandwich he prepared which made a very loud crunch, the Cyclops mid chew looked over with half a brow raised, gumball paused then started eating slowly, his lips curved into a smile as he thickly swallowed the huge bite, Rob stared a moment longer before turning to his food and Continuing to eat, that was the awkwardest thing imaginable, they barely have anything to talk about either. Then the feline noticed the candles, he can light the candles, make it more meaningful, gumball got up from this chair which caught the eye of the Cyclops
“Ya know what we need? The warm atmosphere of a candle light”
“Haha, do we though?”
“we do! We really do” the feline said already reaching for the lighter, he leaned over to his Side and lit his own candle Then the middle one, now he reached Rob, the Cyclops kept a small smile as this all played out, the candle was a little out of reach like the rest of them so of course he leaned forward, he touched his paw onto the edge of the table and leaned across, but the table cloth slipped slightly and moved down to where his paw was settled causing gumballs balance to be lost as his chest hit the dining table, a chain reaction occurred, the glass of lemonade that was somewhere near the edge topples over right onto Rob's shirt, the Cyclops yelped as he got up, holding his shirt and airing out the cold liquid, gumball gasped and dropped the lighter “I'm so so sorry dude!” gumball blew on his shirt out of panic
“Blowing on it won't help” rob said sternly, then his eyes went wide, out of curiosity the feline turned around and there was a small fire formed from the candle his lighter must've knocked over “why does fire keep following me wherever I go today..” he pinched the bridge of his nose, the fire spread quickly across the table and the two yelped in fear at the loud crackle and a piece of flaming cutlery hit the floor which rob stopped on to prevent the fire from spreading anywhere else besides the dining table “okay- uh uh you blow on the fire while I get water?” he stupidly suggested towards his boyfriend
“Like that's going to do anything!”
He extended his arms at gumball then at the fire
“i dont know, do something!” the feline shrieked
You can't blame the chaotic cat though. You can't make him think rationally when your house is about to go up in flames… Again.. How ironic.
Gumball ran into the kitchen, his eyes darting around, panic coursing through his veins, Deep down he felt like penny jinxed it. He looked under the sink and grabbed a bucket that held a few cleaning supplies, he dumped it out and brought it to the sink to be filled.
out of the corner of his eye he noticed rob blowing frantically at it, then face palming, probably because he thought he looked idiotic and ran out of view and grabbed a lone blanket left on their couch and began fanning, little did they know..little did they think, it just caused it to grow bigger. Gumball couldn't stand to see his boyfriend struggle embarrassingly and grabbed the bucket a little too quickly, since it was pretty big you'd have to maneuver the bucket a specific way to fit in the sink so upon grabbing the bucket and practically yanking it, it happened to cause the feline to trip head first onto the cold tile floor and the water toppling back into the sink drain
“Dangnabit!!”
The feline got to his knees
“This is ridiculous!!”
Rob shouted as he ran into the kitchen, gumball quickly got up and began attempting to refill the bucket “I got this! You don't need to help!” The feline retaliated “I wouldn't have to help if you weren't failing so badly” the Cyclops said tiresomely while pulling the faucet to turn it on, now where has gumball heard something like that before? “You'd know all about failing!” Gumball impulsively said amidst his anger, he felt rob elbow him in a non joking way “ow!”
The two fought for the bucket, gumball accidentally slapping rob in the eye, he frantically apologized but in the end he luckily got a hold on the bucket and went to put out the fire, it crackled and the area was hella warm, gumball shrugged to hold up the bucket due to the weight, Rob intervened by holding it by the bottom, teamwork, With the strength of the two they were ready to deploy the water… till the door opened, startling the two into dropping the bucket.. Whiiiiich happened to fall directly onto gumballs tail, he screeched in pain
“Hey dude it's been an hour!” Darwin said with two familiar faces from earlier behind them, Darwin's face turned from a smile to a grimace as Anais’ poked her head behind darwin
“the heck happened!?!?”
The little rabbit screamed.
The scene was.. Concerning, to say the least. First off - the whole dining table was on fire, burnt cookies in the oven, a curled up cat and a very confused and panicked Cyclops who seems to be going on an emotional roller coaster
“Get the hose..”
Anais said to her dad and brother.
The fire settled but the tension was thick as gumballs family peaked from the kitchen archway at the couple who sat on the couch in utter silence, one was drenched in lemonade and the other has its tail covered in bandages as well as covered in smoke, Gumball occasionally swatting off some fire char from his shoulders, the Cyclops’ eye narrowed in annoyance, gumball on the other hand looked pitiful, gumball silently asked for forgiveness with his pleading eyes if only rob spared him a glance
“Should we do something?” Darwin asked in a hushed voice
“Shh they're speaking” Anais brought her finger to Darwin's lips to keep him quiet
Gumball sucked In a breath and began to speak, keeping his paw on the back of his neck as he looked over to the Cyclops
“Sorry for what I said about you uh knowing how it feels to fail..” the feline twiddled with his thumb
“Harsh..”
Richard whispered towards the two
Rob sighed, his expression softening
“it's fine, I didn't even remember” he shrugged, still not making eye contact as he continued to stare at the blank TV, gumball sensed he was lying but didn't want to cause an actual argument by pushing
“Look, this.. This was really kind but.. I think I should go” Rob motioned towards their front door and began sitting up to leave, wincing at the Coldness of the lemonade, gumballs ears flattened “y-you don't need to leave”
“Its cool man” rob only said and left the house with the blue feline following him
“jeez.. How's gumball going to fix.. All that” Anais motioned everywhere
“Knowing Gumball, he probably will.. In his own weird way” Darwin said sentimentally
Richard and Anais nodded
From the porch of the Watterson house gumball yelled and yelled across the street of Elmore to a face walking Cyclops
“Rob! Rob! Wait rob! Robbie? Can I call you that? Robb!!” Then the blue cat bumped into a tall figure.. Which was Rob, who had stopped walking and turned around “what?” the feline shook his head and looked up “you don't have to leave I can fix this!”
“With another dinner? Listen its okay I know penny put you up to this”
“What?” Gumball fully stood up “technically.. Yeah”
“Ive heard enough”
The Cyclops began to walk away
“No- wait wait wait, but I did this on my own accord! For real.. I just wanted it to be ground breaking but I should've known I would've failed” his ears drooped
Rob's facial expression changes from hurt to sympathetic, especially to the way gumball talked down to himself “don't say that, the effort was there, I did enjoy myself whenever everything.. Wasn't bursting up in flames” he chuckled nervously
Gumball looked up and smiled, then his eyes lit up “I can still fix this, no cooking”
“Okaay.. What is it?”
“Let's go to the park! Relax a little, what do ya say?”
“That does sound nice, I think I'll have to take you up on that gumball Watterson”
Gumball whispered “Yesss” to himself and invited the cyclops to hold his hand, it was a different mannerism Rob noticed, asking to hold hands rather than taking it. Rob felt his static frizzle and his face warmed. How can he not hold the feline's hand? He took it, watching the smile on the blue cats face widen as they began their walk to elmores park
The hill was steep but the two made it up eventually, the view was of the entirety of Elmore, it was pretty rob had to admit, they sat beside a tree and enjoyed each others presence, letting the cool air of the day brush against them
“kinda cheesy” rob spoke amidst their mutual silence, his voice soft spoken
“I like cool sentiments, have you seen me and Penny?”
“Fair” rob chuckled
“I'm still sorry”
Gumball reminded
“Don't worry, I heard the same thing happened with you and Penny.. To an extent” he recalled about the lasagna incident.
“Yeah but I didn't drench her in lemonade, impulsively said something mean and slap her in the eye” gumball frowned
Rob didn't say anything for a while then smiled soulfully “again, I appreciate it, I had fun, and you made up for it, I used to think you were selfish, but you've opened my eye these past weeks.. Months even, you can be.. A little much, but I know you mean well, Penny reminds me whenever I get upset at your antics, I can't find myself to find that same anger I felt before” robs face warmed
Gumball looked over, his eyes twinkled at him, the feline thought about how much they've grown, from hating each other, from unnoticed feelings to finally being friends.
Then.. in an act of bravery gumball smooches closer, turning his body enough to fully face him, Rob had his eye closed with a faint smile, which he loved, gumball cupped his cheeks, rob slowly opened his eyes in wonder but gumball was two steps ahead the blue cat closed his eyes and pressed his lips onto the Cyclops’ own, his eye went wide, looking at gumball directly, the two felt like they were floating in a meadow so serene. The Cyclops moved his hand to his chest to check if his heart was still beating, it was but rapidly, he was nervous, surprised but happy. Rob never closed his eye, not till he knew it was okay. The static on his body seemed to brighten and shift a warm hue, as the moment stayed, paw still on the Cyclops cheek, the moment of serendipity lasted for what felt like forever, till gumball pulled away. Rob blinked then turned away nervously but with a giddy smile he couldn't hide
“Ya know.. When I kiss Penny it's like we're in space floating, like a euphoria. But with you it felt like floating slowly through a meadow of serenity” gumball shrugged and smirked, his body language collected on the other hand Rob was still trying to process things, his face was warm his heart still pounding, he refused to look in gumballs direction he was too embarrassed.
The feline glanced at the flustered Cyclops
“was that your first kiss?”
He asked with a smirk, leaning into robs personal space
“Get outta here you creepo” The Cyclops teased, pushing gumballs face away once he started making kissy lips
“we need to take a picture to commemorate, send to Penny n stuff” He dug in his pocket and held his phone downwards as he invaded robs personal space once more “we don't need to take a photo, and that's not a very flattering angle” rob quickly grabbed gumballs arm and raised it higher, gumball moved his phone away and looked at rob “every angle makes you look flattering” the feline complimented as he batted his eyes towards the Cyclops, Rob blushed and pushed gumballs face away from his with a chuckle “yeah yeah”
“Photo for Penny?” Gumball reasoned
The Cyclops blinked then smiled
“Photo for Penny.” He parroted in agreement, Gumball beamed, grabbing rob by the waist and pulling them into camera view, he adjusted the camera and raised it High, the two both smiled and the camera snapped.
Penny was at her desk when she got a text message that vibrated on her nightstand, scooting out of her chair she walked over to the night stand, a text from their shared chat! Her lips quirked into a smile and there was a picture of both rob and gumball sitting, backs against the tree smiling. And Penny couldn't be happier.
