Work Text:

Chihiro doesn't know how he ended up the drummer of a world famous rock band.

Hinao and her schemes are his best guess.

He's gotten used to it in the recent months, but their rise to fame had been sudden and the shift in his lifestyle had really thrown him off recently. He could be at home, with Hakuri relaxing on his couch or making the two of them dinner, but no. He's sitting uncomfortably in a stupid MTV interview he doesn't even really think he needs to be at. He's just the drummer. And he's comfortable at the back of the stage hidden behind his kit. The audience is never there for him, they're there for Hinao or Hiyuki, anyone but him. So he's not super pumped about this interview.

There's a translator for them- though he's off to the side just in case any of them get lost- at this point in their tour their English has improved drastically.  He's not really paying attention to anything the host is saying until he gets a nudge in his side and he realizes they're all looking at him. Fuck.

"Uh," he stammers, "Come again?"
The crew laughs and and their translator repeats the question just in case he didn't catch any of the English words in the host's question, "Chihiro, you're sort of a heart throb here in the states- any words to the ladies tonight?"
Hinao and Hiyuki are trying very hard to hide their giggles as he tries to figure out how the hell he's supposed to respond. What kind of question is that? He blurts out the first thing that comes to mind, "Sorry, I'm taken."

There's murmurs and gasps from the crowd around them as the host's interest is suddenly piqued. He leans forward in his chair and there's a look in his eye that makes Chihiro regret staying with the band after they blew up.

"Well, that's really a shame," he says overdramatically frowning to the camera, "she might need to watch her back- these girls on tour can be vicious and determined. None of the ladies out here catch your attention? I know the distance must put a strain on any relationship."
"That's not really appropri-" Hinao starts to argue, but Chihiro sees red. He really hates TV personalities.
"I don't think he really needs to worry about that," Chihiro defends, leveling the host with a glare that could kill, "I'm leaving."

He stands and rushes off set, Hinao and Hiyuki follow after him. He can hear them causing a bigger commotion as they leave- Hiyuki specifically calls the host a slimy boot licking asshole and pushes over a chair just for good measure. He's glad she made a scene for him but he's also concerned about how this is going to look to the fans but Hiyuki has always been pretty violent- especially onstage.

They don't stop until they're all out of the studio and in their tour bus. He's still angry and he especially misses Hakuri. He checks his watch- it's not outrageously early to call him. Hiyuki and Hinao storm into the bus as he pulls his phone out, both still complaining about how rude that host was. The bus starts and they all jolt against the sudden motion- right. They're still on a tight schedule. He sits at the small table and dials Hakuri, he picks up on the second ring.

"Chihiro!" Hakuri's voice rings through the phone and Chihiro thinks he can hear an angel's choir singing.
"Hakuri," he replies, not trying to hide the fondness in his voice, "it was a rough interview."
"Oh no," he says through the line, Chihiro can picture his frown, "what happened?"
"He was just being an asshole," Chihiro says, Hinao walks by with a teasing look on her face. Chihiro is allowed to call his boyfriend when he's distressed. "Implied I would cheat on you..."
Hakuri scoff sounds static-y through his phone, "Well he obviously doesn't know anything about our relationship. Those Hollywood types live on drama."
Chihiro hums in agreement and decides to change the topic, he doesn't want to think about it anymore, "What are you doing right now?"

They stay on the phone for another few hours, which is usual. Hinao and Hiyuki occasionally chime into his conversation from their bunks and make him relay their messages along to Hakuri. He does so only because he doesn't want to get punched by either of them- they both play dirty. Chihiro starts to relax more, he's less riled up now. Hakuri is really just a blessing in disguise. It takes him up until three hours into his call with Hakuri to realize he referred to Hakuri as he. In an interview. In reference to Hakuri being his boyfriend.

"Oh." he says out loud without any context.
"Oh?" Hakuri echoes back, confused.
"I think I accidentally outed myself in a MTV interview."

Hinao and Hiyuki howl with laughter as soon as he says it out loud and he realizes they've known the entire time. How did he not even realize. Chihiro can even hear Hakuri trying not to laugh about it.

"You just realized?"
"How did you know?"
"Chihiro, my love, you've been trending on twitter for the past couple hours, I thought that's why you called me."
"I don't check twitter," Chihiro tries to argue, it's not the best defense but it's true.
"Please, never change."
