My cute Jangsanbeom

Summary:

Megan just wants to study for her exam— passing means she gets to go to that concert with her friends. But how is she supposed to focus when a mysterious girl with pointed ears, a fluffy tail, and a attitude like she owns the place keeps wandering the library?

Especially when no one else seems to see her?

Chapter 1: So… Who are you?

Chapter Text

Song: Adore you - Harry Styles

Megan tried to focus on her books. She needed to pass this exam if she wanted to go to that concert with her friends— her parents wouldn't tolerate another bad grade. The school library was nearly empty at this hour, just a handful of students scattered around, the silence broken only by the scratch of pencils, the turn of pages, and the occasional whisper.

But no one else seemed to notice the girl. Tall, dressed in a crop top and a torn white skirt, with long, dark wavy hair— and pointed ears. A fluffy tail swished behind her as she strolled between the shelves like she owned them.

The first time Megan saw her a week ago, her heart had stopped. She'd never seen anyone so beautiful. But since no one else reacted, she'd chalked it up to her mind playing tricks —maybe a side effect oh that weird green-flower candy Manon had given her to “help her focus”.

Except it'd been a week, and the girl was still here. Lounging on study tables like no one was sitting there. Stacking books into precarious towers in the aisles. Once, she'd even shouted, “I NEED AN ICE COFFEE” at the top of her lungs.

Megan had resolved to ignore her. If no one else paid her any attention, neither would she.

…Except sometimes, again her better judgment, she looked.

And this time, when she did, the girl was looking back.

Shit” Megan snapped her gaze down to her notes, reading the same line over and over like her life depended on it. A sweet, floral scent filled the air as someone slid into the seat beside her.

You can see me, can't you?” — the girl's voice was soft, almost a whisper.

Megan looked up. The girl tilted her head, deep brown eyes brimming with something sad enough to send chills down Megan's spine. Up close, her beauty was devastating.

Oh my god, you can see me” the girl breathed delighted.

Kind of hard to ignore someone dressed like a… cute monster” Megan muttered, then inmediately wanted to die.

She glanced around— still, no once reacted. “Is this some kind of prank? Is that outfit part of a dare?”

The girl frowned, arms crossing “You're asking the wrong questions. You should be wondering why you're the only one who can see me”

I just figured you were… a hallucination” Megan admitted, rubbing her temple.

So… you regularly hallucinate girls with ears and tails?” The girls grin turned wicked.

No! I mean— yes, but not like— it's the drugs— not that I do drugs!” Megan's voice rose, drawing a few stares. She slumped lower, whispering furiously “My friend Manon gave me this ‘focus’ candies with that weird green flower, and—

The girl laughed and the sound sent a jolt through Megan's stomach. Unreal.

What's your name?” The girl asked smiling.

M-Megan” she managed, hypnotized.

Well Megan” The girl leaned in “you have no idea how happy I am to talk to you. I'm Yoonchae. And you're the first person who's seen me in four months”.

Megan's brain short-circuited. Three things became abruptly clear:

1. No one would believe her about Yoonchae. Not even Lara, the most open-minded of her friends.

2. She was absolutely going to fail her exams and miss the concert.

3. She was lucky as hell. This beautiful, imposible girl was hers alone— at least until they figured out why.
