Work Text:
The evening sky glittered, speckled with the miniscule glittering of each star. Pin and Gaty ran around in the flower field for just a bit longer, collecting sunflowers before going to take a rest.
As both found a patch of grass to rest upon, Gaty pointed out the deep, glittering landscape surrounding them. “Look,” she said, tugging on Pin’s hand gently. “The sky looks amazing.”
Pin gazed at the dark, yet comforting night infront of her and Gaty. It was beautiful. Each star had its own charm to it, drawing Pin in more. It was strange; she was supposed to be the strong leader, and she doesn’t have to act that way with Gaty. She was always so understanding.
Gaty tapped Pin. “Look!” she exclaimed, pointing at the sky. A shooting star descended from above, glittering brighter than everything else. Pin glanced up at Gaty’s request, and she immediately felt something.
Something that didn’t feel good.
Pin’s eyes widened and clutched at the grass beneath her palms. She was just feeling amazing getting the chance to unwind! What was happening to her now? She immediately looked away, trying to hide her guilt from Gaty. She couldn’t let her inability to move on ruin this.
As Gaty was entranced by the shooting star, she looked back at Pin. She looked happy, but not as relaxed; it was clear she was tense and bothered. Her smile looked slightly forced, she had a tighter grip on Gaty’s foot and her palms felt sweaty.
“Pin?” Gaty asked, concerned. “Are you okay?” She faced Pin to be able to talk to her better. “You were just so relaxed earlier, and now it looks like something’s bothering you. What’s up?”
Shit. Her cover was blown.
“…I look tense?” Pin replied, trying to force a smile and play stupid. Why was Gaty worrying for her? They were just supposed to take a breather, and now she’s making Gaty help her. “I’m not bothered by anything!” she continued, sounding shaky, panicked even.
“I’m not…” Ooze dripped down her forehead, a dead giveaway to her worry. “I’m not bothered by anything.”
Gaty started to get even more concerned. Why was Pin trying to fake her relaxation? What was causing her to act like this all of a sudden?
“I can tell you’re bothered by something,” Gaty responded. “Do you have any idea what it is?”
Pin tensed up further. How was she gonna explain this? Explain how guilty she was treating Coiny like that?
“I don’t want to get into detail,” Pin simply responded, avoiding Gaty’s gaze. “The shooting star just…reminded me of something.” She sighed. “So many years ago, and I still feel terrible about what I did in the past.”
Gaty grabbed Pin’s hands. “Why do you still worry about something from so long ago?” she asked, glancing back at the shooting star. “Whatever you did back then that had hurt people, you’ve clearly changed and learned from what you’ve done.” She stood up, taking Pin with her. “Try to stop focusing on what you did, and focus on what you’ll do in the moment.”
As her and Gaty walked back to the hotel together, she couldn’t help but think; it felt weird having someone be so understanding. Not even her closest friends could offer as much acceptance as she did.
For once, it did feel good to not have to fear being judged for something she did so long ago.
