“Did you roll those hoses right?” Chim asked from behind Buck, gum popping.
“Of course,” Buck said without turning around. “I’ve never disrespected our equipment, Chim.”
“Yeah, well, I didn’t see you roll them, so you can re-do it back at the station.”
“I don’t have a problem doing my job,” Buck snapped. “But I’m not sure what you’re asking for here.”
“You’re perilously close to insubordination, Firefighter Buckley. I suggest you suck it up and do what you’re told.”
Buck turned to ‘Acting’ Captain Han, and, standing tall enough to tower over him, he loudly proclaimed for all those in hearing and camera range to hear, “Then do it. And I’ll be sure to post it online along with your being buddy, buddy with my sister’s abusive husband as he was getting ready to murder her. And then tie that together with your trying to date my grieving sister after she had to fend off and kill her abusive husband, and her telling you ‘NO.’ You’re just like her husband, Doug, in that you don’t take no for an answer. And get abusive with someone in a submissive position to you when it happens.” Buck swept his arms to show all around the outside area they were cleaning up, and all those now with cameras filming the altercation. Much to Han’s surprise.
And to his further surprise was his own crewmen, in the persons of the engineers, also filming.
“Please send copies of those films to my email and the Union and HR, with the notice that ‘Acting’ Captain, Howard Han, of the 118-A Shift has stated he was going to file an order of insubordination against Firefighter Buckley. And that in return, Firefighter Buckley is charging ‘Acting’ Captain Han with Abuse of Power, Abuse of Rank, and Purposeful Dereliction of Duty to the effect that it imperiled the lives of the 118 House and those we are sent to aid. In point of Fact by the refusal to allow the daily maintenance of all vehicles under the 118’s care for his petty tyranny. With the engineering logs baring me out.
“Now if you will do that Engineer’s DeKay and Calley, I’ll be calling an Uber to take me to Headquarters for the meetings this bring about.”
Buck turned to the paling Han, “Good day, Mr. I-can’t-take-no-for-an-answer-just-like-Doug.”
