Chapter Text
A calmer (well, as calm as it gets for an eclectic collection of tadpoled adventures and their friends), day is always incredibly welcome. Not experiencing injury or meeting a violent end is an obvious benefit, but another welcome blessing that a calm day brings is a calm evening; where hectic and dangerous days end in exhausted collapses into bedrolls, calm days leave enough energy to actually relax in the evenings, small pockets of much needed quiet existence.
Having only reached the Lower City a few days prior, recon, supply shopping and generally getting their bearings had been taking up much of their time. The day had included following a lead of Jaheira’s in order to find the whereabouts of her old ally, though following a lead through the sewers was a… to put it politely, new experience, though after the past tenday included having been pummelled to near death while in the Astral Plane and the whole circus ordeal, Quinn would choose another sewer trek any day. Nevertheless, the trek was successful, Jaheira’s lead had pointed them in the direction of Minsc and plans had been made to continue the search tomorrow.
Shadowheart had completed her evening rituals and settled down on her bed, facing the ceiling and simply revelling in the quiet moment. However the moment had an arguably not unwelcome interruption in the form of Quinn approaching and practically flopping face-first on top of her.
“Oof!- Are you quite comfy?” Her faux chastising would have been more convincing if not for the amusement creeping into her tone or her hands immediately moving to wrap around her girlfriend’s waist. The only response she received was an enthusiastic nod and a small giggle that she felt more than heard.
Several minutes passed in cozy silence, the pair simply enjoying the warmth and comfort, Shadowheart had started playing with Quinn’s hair, absentmindedly unraveling the strawberry blonde and mousy brown swirl that made up her bun. Eventually Quinn attempted to start a conversation, attempted being the key word, as from her position nestled in Shadowheart’s chest, her words sounded completely muffled. “You know I can’t hear you, do you want to try again?”.
Quinn replied in the form of an indignant huff before adjusting herself so the pair could actually talk, not with the deft movement she’s proven to be capable of mind you, she instead opted to wriggle herself until she was tucked into her girlfriend’s side with an added detour of sitting up to grab for a duvet since her shift as Shadowheart’s blanket had ended. “Settle down will you?! I’d have a calmer time cuddling with the owlbear cub” Shadowheart joked as Quinn finally curled up with her.
“Now that that’s all done, what were you saying?” Shadowheart asked, once she finished chuckling at Quinn’s antics.
“I’m glad today went so well, Jaheira’s lead was helpful” Quinn replied, “Though I can’t help but think..” she trailed off, getting distracted by her thoughts.
“Something the matter? Concern starting to colour Shadowheart’s voice,
“Do you think something is going on with Jaheira and Nine-fingers? Their conversation seemed so charged, I felt like I was intruding on something”.
Quinn’s remark broke all trace of worry instantly and left Shadowheart sputtering into simultaneously disbelieving and delighted laughter, “Is my sweet girl gossiping about one of our companions?! I really must be rubbing off on you!”
“I thought we called that building sandcast-oof!” Quinn’s response was cut short as she was swiftly smited with a pillow.
