hoodie haggling

Summary:

jason’s favorite hoodie is missing. there really aren't many suspects.

Work Text:

“y'know, sweetheart,” jason said, his voice still rough from sleep as it cut through the peaceful noise of the rainy city outside your window, “the strangest thing happened to me just now.”

“oh?” you watched him drop onto the couch next to you, his back against the armrest. one foot stayed firmly on the ground, the other stretching out behind you. “and what would that be?”

“i went into the closet to get my knights hoodie, only to find out it was missing.” he plucked your computer out of your lap despite your half-hearted protests, setting it on the coffee table before snaking his arms around your waist and pulling you to rest against his chest. “then i walked out here, and found you in one that looked just like it.”

you hummed thoughtfully, tossing your legs over his thigh and letting your feet dangle over the rug as you settled comfortably into his hold. “that is strange.”

“care to explain?”

“well, you see, i was cold.”

“mhm.”

“and i had to come out here and get my work started.”

“m-hm.”

“and my personal heater-” he rolled his eyes as you patted his bicep- “was still asleep, so i couldn’t drag him out here to help.”

“your personal heater sounds lazy,” he snarked, dropping his chin onto your shoulder.

you frowned, protectiveness flaring in your chest despite his relaxed demeanor and lighthearted tone. “he’s not lazy, just tired.” a gentle squeeze to his arm. “he’s a busy guy. needs his rest.”

“still doesn’t explain why you stole my hoodie,” he grumbled into the thick fabric, warm breath hitting your neck.

you giggled, fond and quiet.

it really was a nice hoodie. it was a faded black with a large gold logo across the chest, thick and almost criminally soft. way too soft for football merchandise.

more importantly, it was a little too big for him- meaning it was just about large enough for you to drown in- and it carried a comforting scent of cinnamon mixed with his cologne.

it felt safe.

what it wasn’t, as he was currently reminding you, was a substitute for his hugs.

“you want it back, handsome?”

you craned your neck to look at him as best you could, catching his small pout just before he buried his face in your shoulder.

“no,” he mumbled. “it’s cuter on you.”

you dropped your head to rest against his, a grin tugging at your lips. “i seriously, seriously doubt that.”

“don’t even start,” he said, playful danger in his tone as he somehow pulled you even closer to him. “i will tickle you.”

“what, not willing to admit you’re adorable?”

he groaned, poking your side. “it’s too early for this. just accept the compliment.”

“if i do, will you stay with me for a while?” you traced gentle patterns onto his arm, lazily toying with the hem of his short sleeve and running across scar tissue. “this is a lot more comfortable than working on my own.”

“you stole my hoodie, so i guess it’s only fair i steal your warmth.”

you laughed. “cheesy. at least ‘steal your heart’ would have been alliterative with 'stole my hoodie’.”

he pulled back, hand coming up to nudge your face towards him. “i’d prefer if you gave that willingly, gorgeous.”

who could blame you for melting a little at that? at the soft look in his eyes? the way his voice dipped in the middle, a shade above nervous?

“it’s all yours,” you promised, savoring the way his own lips turned upwards before meeting your own.
