You and Me and A Baby

Summary:

Loki was seeing a different side to Puck since their acquisition of Daniel. Puck was utterly smitten with the child. There was a happy glow about him, his soft smile enchanting. It stirred up emotions in Loki that he'd rather squash down. After all, it wouldn't do, to go falling in love.

A short, fluffy, missing scene from S2, E8.

Notes:

Wrote this snippet a few weeks ago, partway through watching the new series. I was going to expand on it, but haven't had the motivation to, so decided to just post it as is!

Also I've been enjoying every single one of the handful of Loki x Puck fanfics currently posted and I hope there's even more soon! So this is my contribution to the tag!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“He's a good baby.” Puck stated from where he knelt on the carpet beside Daniel. He had been playing with the child, it seemed to be a simple game of Peek-a-boo, but Daniel was fully absorbed in it.

Loki watched with a front of disinterest.

“Hmm?” He hummed, pretending to be half listening to Puck's musings.

Loki had of course fully understood what Puck had been saying. His full attention on his lover and the baby and only pretending to read the book in his hand.

“The baby, Daniel, he's a very good baby. He doesn't cry and he's fun to play with.” Puck elaborated.

Loki looked up at the pair. He could see the adoration in Puck's eyes. But for once it wasn't for him. It was for that child.

Puck would suit parenthood, Loki thought. It was never something that had particularly interested himself, despite his numerous offspring. For him, being a father had been an unfortunate end to an otherwise fabulous fling. He'd never had a child with someone out of love, wanting to raise it together.

For a moment the thought of raising a child with Puck crossed his mind. He could picture the two of them, causing their usual mischief but with a younger one in tow. There were certainly opportunities there. Not only that, Puck would make a wonderful father, doting on a child, while Loki would have to be the more serious parent. The two of them working together to raise a little bundle of mischief.

Loki pulled himself from his thoughts with a shudder, and a reminder to himself that he mustn't get carried away. Falling in love had never done anyone any good.

Then Puck looked up at him, his eyes crinkling with affection, for both him and the baby. The look captivated Loki, those bright eyes and the gorgeous curls. His lover was utterly beautiful. Puck’s look at him drew him in and Loki slid off the sofa to join his partner on the carpet in front of the fire. He reached out and cupped a hand to the side of Puck's face. He leant in and pressed a kiss to Puck's lips.

Puck smiled that sweet smile of his, the one that was reserved for Loki alone, before refocusing his attention to the baby, Daniel.

Loki looked at the baby properly for the first time, trying to see him as his lover saw him, not just as a tool or pawn in his game, but as just a baby. Baby Daniel babbled and crawled toward Loki. He reached out a chubby hand to grasp at Loki's jacket, playing with the buttons. Loki tried to relax as the baby's hands grabbed at his jacket before reaching up and pulling at his carefully styled hair.

“Ouch!” Loki yelped as his hair was tugged at.

Puck laughed and grabbed the baby, returning him to his lap. “Now Daniel, that wasn't very nice. Apologise to Loki here, hmm?” Puck lightly reprimanded Daniel with amusement.

Daniel just babbled his nonsense and waved at Loki.

“You’re not forgiven.” Loki pointed an accusatory finger at Daniel. This action caused Daniel to burst into tears.

“Hey, hey! No fighting!” Puck scolded.

Puck stood, holding Daniel in his arms and gently bouncing him. “Hush now Daniel, shush shush.” He soothed.

Loki watched in wonder as Daniel quietened down. Puck wiped the tears from Daniel’s face and continued to rock him softly.

“There, there.” Puck cooed at the child. “Isn’t that better? See, Loki here didn’t mean to frighten you. Did he?” Puck shot a pointed look in Loki’s direction.

Loki sighed. “No, I didn’t.” He grumbled.

“There, see. Everything’s ok Daniel. Now how about a nap? Hmm.” Puck disappeared into the other room with Daniel.

Loki stood from where he had been sitting on the carpet and quietly crept over to the doorway, peering around. There was Puck carefully putting Daniel down into the crib they’d acquired for him. Puck was humming something as he settled the baby, reaching for the fairy dust he kept on him. He sprinkled a little over Daniel. Loki watched Puck gently rock the crib, even though the child within was now fast asleep and could no longer feel the affection of Puck’s care. Though the action was probably more for Puck than for Daniel. Loki was once again struck with the fact that Puck would make a wonderful parent. Puck looked up from the crib, spotting Loki standing in the doorway. He rocked the crib a final time before walking over to Loki.

Loki draped his arms around Puck’s shoulders, pulling him towards him until their chests bumped together. He walked them backwards, out of the doorway and back into the living room proper.

Hope you enjoyed this short bit of writing. I might expand on it further in the future.
