Summary
Pressing the bunched up shirt at the base, you slowly wrap your hand around the handle. Every slight nudge sends jolts of lightning up your nerves. Fire-hot pain flares out in your chest. You hiss softly, sucking air through your teeth. Your head feels light.
“Hello?”
You let go quickly to tuck yourself further into the shadows, inadvertently knocking the knife in your rush. You bite your lip hard enough to draw blood to tamp down the sounds that fight to come out. A shadow blocks the light from the street.
Footsteps slowly make their way down the alley. Closer to you. It’s only a matter of time before you’re spotted. You reach for the gun holstered to your thigh.
