Work Text:
“Get out, get the fuck out!..”
Shit, this wasn’t how this was supposed to go!
They had thought that everything was going fine, until the power surge. Eddie NEEDED to restart the power, but they couldn’t convince him and now this was happening! Admittedly, they hadn’t spoken to Eddie much over the last couple of days. When they first met the two personifications of their fuse box, Eddie seemed like the type to prefer being alone. He seemed like an overtired, antisocial guy who’d prefer being left alone to his work. So, stupidly, they didn’t bother him at all. They’d only talked to Volt, and now it was biting them in the ass!
Eddie had shared the whole story of Volt’s making, how he MADE him from his own surge… how he couldn’t bear the thought of being alone again.
They had nothing to say, nothing to tell him that could convince him to do it, other than trying to convince him that Volt may have been causing him even more harm, and look where that got them.
“Eddie, I’m just saying—“ They tried, but they were promptly cut off.
An electric blue glow graced the walls, and they were confused until Volt yelled, causing them to shift their gaze his way…
…He was fucking BLUE.
“He said LEAVE—!”
“—WHY ARE YOU BLUE?!..”
They yelled at the same time.
They didn’t know why the image of Volt being blue stunned them so much, but it definitely made their head spin.
They backed away, and promptly tripped over something, A box, their own two feet, they didn’t know, but they felt themself rapidly stumbling backwards.
They tried to catch themselves on the wall behind them, bending their knees outwards to try and stabilize, but that turned out to be their biggest mistake. Before they could blink, their left knee came out of socket with a loud -POP-, and they were on the floor, lightheaded and numb feeling.
“Shitshitshit, not NOW! This is not the time, fuck!..” They yelled at themself, like that’d somehow fix the situation.
They grasped their knee with shaking hands. The adrenaline rushing through their veins honestly kept it from actively hurting, but they knew that they wouldn’t be able to move until they got it back in, and they needed to calm the fuck DOWN before they could even think about that.
They were unwillingly aware of Volt and Eddie’s eyes on them, both standing, stunned. Volt’s newfound bright blue skin mostly disappearing as his shock overtook his anger, only remaining still heavily on his cheeks, nose, and the joints along his body.
If either tried to speak to them, they didn’t hear it over the ringing in their ears. They needed to go, needed to leave the breaker box, but they couldn’t move.
Not knowing what else to do, they hurriedly grabbed the Dateivators off of their face and threw them across the room. The boys disappeared, and they were back in their closet, alone.
“God damnit.. This isn’t even helping, because I know they’re still watching me, ughhh!..” They muttered to themself, feeling the stares of Volt and Eddie still burning their skin even though they couldn’t see the two anymore.
Regardless, they forced themself to finally breathe, letting their muscles, and their leg relax. After a few minutes, they could finally think straight.
They grunted as they popped their knee back in place, the heated pain spreading up and down their leg before it felt better.
Knowing they wouldn’t be able to walk yet, they reached upwards to open the closet door behind their head, and simply used their arms to shift across the floor into the hallway and into their bedroom, where their old knee brace and crutches were.
“Alright, get the brace on, go downstairs and get something frozen for the damn swelling, heal… and then try to apologize to Eddie and Volt… Fuck.”
