Summary
When Buddy accidentally stumbles across (falls face first into) a secret ice cavern beneath the ruins of the Mother Naturae temple on Broken Tooth, he discovers something incredible; a frozen Grumpus.
To everyone's shock, the Grumpus isn't just a perfect specimen, she's alive, and carrying an egg! Now, the residents of Snaxburg, mainly Buddy, Filbo, Floofty and Triffany, have to find a way to communicate with their understandably frightened guest, who seems strangely terrified of Gramble. Working in close proximity to the Mayor and the Gastroentomologist brings out new feelings in the Journalist, ones he doesn't quite know how to deal with.
Meanwhile, Snorpy is forced out of his comfort zone when he and Chandlo are tasked with watching over the egg, which seems due to hatch soon. Chandlo is confident that they'll be great dads, but the inventor can't help but feel inadequate.
However, things are changing on Snaktooth. Bugsnax are getting harder and harder to find, and the ones Buddy does encounter are more aggressive than normal, and the Journalist begins to feel watched wherever he goes. Facing strange messages and disturbing offerings, Buddy wonders if the Hunter is now the Hunted.
