Work Text:

The anti something something experiment

They were at the beach again.

The whole family was there and then some. The ever growing clone family as it was, the Bad Batch with so many other clones having become a true large family. Some of the clones having taken a more  permanent residence on the island of peace while others spent some time off here and there among family and friends.

Only now, there was a highly valued and sought after medic amongst them as well. Kix.

Like so many others of the long since lost troopers, Kix too having been found after the destruction of Tantiss and the following found of data in the rubble, the info of it leading to all kinds of fun filled horror houses of the Empire were clones were being experimented on. Some still in cryo freeze when Rex’s Rebel Force had found and rescued them after Echo and Tech's decryption of said data.

But, this wasn’t about that any more. As  Kix now a part of Rex’s Rebel Force having taken some leave time from the Rebellion and like so many other clones, having come to Pabu for some R and R for a change.

Kix having become very good friends with Tech. The two sharing a passion for all things medical. One of Tech’s many passions true. But there were plenty of things the two clones loved to investigate and conduct a few benign experiments of their very own as well in said field. To improve their family members wellbeing but of course.

As it was now, applying sunscreen of any kind was mostly forgotten by the Bad Batchers. The lot of them usually rushing to the beach, slipping into the inviting waters and never mind protecting their skins from the ever present sunshine.

But that would all change from now on if Tech and Kix had anything to say about it!

Kix and Tech having invented a great treatment for not only protecting the skins of their kindred, but also, the potion was filled with a plethora of vitamins and hydrating agents of varied as well. The bonus being, it was edible as well! So all well and good.

Except, none of the Batchers really remained in one place for too long. Slumbering in the scorching sun not really their thing at all. Rather them all frolicking on the waves, playing games on the beach near the water, where they could dip in ever so often to cool down.

But, as this was a new invention. And so, Kix and Tech needed to make sure the sun protection would actually work before marketing it to the rest of the population. And for that, the others part of said experiment was that they all needed to remain still for a lengthy amount of time so the two medics would be able to make scans of them and the effect of the cream.

“It’s waaayyy tooooo hooooot! Can I go to the water already?” Omega whined.

Omega having never really been able to sit down for any length of time despite her being a sort of a master in meditation. But according to her, that was a different scenario all together, so the meditation did not apply.

“Yeah… I wanna swim! Now!” Wrecker joined in the chorus.

Wrecker who had been licking his arm almost immediately after applying the sunscreen, the cream too delicious to resist!

“Wrecker! Don’t eat the stuff! You won’t get the effect of it if you do!” Echo tried to tell him.

“But, it smells so good!!!”

“You can’t eat it, Wrecker. It will ruin the experiment!” Kix warned him as well.

“But…”

“No!”

“Fine!”

A pouting Wrecker lay back onto his towel, not liking this at all!

“We need to stay put for Tech and Kix’s scans.” Hunter tried then.

Glancing at Echo for support. Alas, Echo, feeling the heat too despite his internal cooling system, only rolled his eyes back at Hunter. Not really in the mood either. Alas, not so easily the one to complain, having already said his bit in the matter.

“But… it’s so hooooot!” Wrecker and Omega tried again, the whining their thing now.

“Just a moment longer, then you can go.”

Tech stayed calm and decisive, even if Kix was about to let the two complaining kids go already. Tech simply giving the other medic a head shake of no.

“Tech is right. This is important.” Kix added then.

Crosshair and Mayday lying close by, too were so done. The heat was scorching on this day. And as Tech and Kix had forbidden shade of any kind for the purpose of their experiment. The only thing they were allowed to use was head cover, like hats and such to protect their overheating heads.

“Can we go now?” Crosshair tried as well, “It’s been over an hour already.”

“Yeah, we’re both cooked here. Like prawns! You can smell the frying skin a klick away!”

Tech rolled his eyes, glancing over to Kix again. The two communicating wordlessly, something of a habit after having worked together for a while now in close proximity.

“Come on you two! Grow a pair will ya!” Gregor chuckled, the commando actually enjoying the warm, hot… scorching sun for a change.

Something wet flew across the air then landing on top Gregor’s stomach with a smack.

“Hey!!!”

“Serves you right.” Mayday chuckled.

“Come on kids, let’s just… try to endure this for a moment longer, okay.” Hunter really tried, not being sold on this whole ordeal himself either, but he was trying to set a good example for Tech and Kix’s sake.

“Who’re ya calling a kid, Hunt?”

“Yeah, Hunt, yer the kid!”

There were giggles among the crowd. Something was thrown again, then something else. The small wet balls made of tissue paper dipped in water flying all across the group, landing on the sizzling bodies.

“Come on you lot! Settle down!” Tech tried.

Alas, it was useless. The battle of wits and wills and well, boredom be damned having started and there was no stopping it anymore.

Tech sighed heavily, checking his datapad before turning to Kix again.

“Do we have enough?”

“Guess this is good. For now.” Kix glanced at the play warring group, everyone up and throwing stuff at each other now. “We need a different group for our next round though.”

“Agreed.”

The two medics looked at the antics of their family for a spell longer.

“Should we release them?”

“Yeah, there is nothing more we can do with them now.”

“Okay, you can go.” Tech finally said. “The lot of you, git!!!”

“Yay!” The chorus screamed.

The lot of them taking off and heading to the inviting, cool and calming waters, sunscreen experiments be damned!
