You’re always on my shoulders
“Cody, what’s that on your shoulder?” Rex asked seeing the fluffy thing there.
“Wot? Where?”
Cody pretended to look over at his shoulders for something off or odd. Alas supposedly finding nothing?
“Right there. That’s a tail, right?” Rex tried, looking at Cody as if Cody was completely clueless or something suddenly.
“Oh… that. Heh, yeah, it’s a tail alright.” Cody’s face grew to a wide grin.
“Oh-kay. So what’s it for and more importantly whose tail is it?”
Cody then reached with his hand across his head and shoulders, soon enough, something even more furry coming out.
“This, is Merv. And the tail belongs to him.”
Cody properly introduced the small tooka kitten to Rex.
“Merv, say hello to my friend, Rex.”
“Meow!”
Rex was looking at the fluffy animal in total surprise. Not really sure as to what to make of this sudden acquisition of a, well, pet of his friend’s. Having never really thought of Cody as the pet keeping type.
“Hi. Um, Merv?” Rex reached out letting the tooka sniff his hand before petting him.
“He likes you.” Cody pointed out seeing Merv letting Rex pet him. The tooka even purring.
“What’s not to like!” Rex smirked, cooing to Merv soon enough. “Good kitty, pretty kitty.”
“Well it’s good to know for when I need a tooka sitter!”
“Wot?”
“Yeah, cause I can’t take him with me on dangerous missions now can I!”
Rex was staring at Cody, the Captain in total disbelief.
“Cody! You should have though things out before getting a pet! The animals are a commitment not a play thing!” Rex berated him.
“I didn’t get him, Rex. Merv chose me.”
“Okay… yeah, fine… But still.”
“Well, that’s still done. So there. I have pet tooka now. Merv is with me. always.” Cody pouted, not really liking Rex’s tone at all.
“Sure.”
“Yup!”
“Good.”
“Good.”
Silence.
The two friends simply glaring at one and other. But Merv was happy though as they were both patting him now, giving their attention to the kitten.
“So when can I watch him then?” Rex asked suddenly.
Cody could not help but smirk.
“Soon Rex, soon.”
Merv was purring loudly on top of his shoulders still, getting all the attention he was so happy. Having gained not one, but two tooka dads for himself. A win-win for Merv for sure.
Life was going to be so great without a doubt for the little Tooka kitten called Merv!
