caught in the summer rain

Summary:

Riku grabs Yushi's chin softly with his free hand, making the younger boy face him again. He looks at him intensely, like a cat soliciting affection from its owner.

Without a word, Riku leans in and presses a delicate kiss against Yushi's lips.

This isn't the first time, but it's been a while. They've kissed more than a dozen times. Ranging from short pecks to full on making out on each other's beds.

Work Text:

Sounds of rain continued to pour outside of Yushi's Seoul apartment as he lazily slumps over the couch, game controller on his right hand as he stares at the screen, bored after completing a match with Sakuya and Ryo. Although it's only 6 o’clock in the evening, he began to feel drowsy due to the comfort of the current weather conditions that have made the sky darker earlier than it usually does and the air colder compared to most summer days.

Yushi doesn’t move from his current position. Winning his last match thanks to being carried by the two younger boys who were better than him at the game gave him a rush of dopamine, so now he doesn't have the urge to play again.

A chat pop ups on the left bottom part of the television screen.

sillysealdance: i have to go
melon__pan7: bye guys :3

Pressing the tiniest button on the side, Yushi proceeds to type on the chat using the joystick controls.

whitecatfur4: byebyeee

He turns off the console with a few presses of his controller, and stands up to grab the remote control to turn off the television as well. He goes back to being slumped on the couch, closing his eyes and not moving.

Yushi stays there still, listening to nothing but the sounds of pouring rain falling against the ground outside his apartment. He already cooked dinner earlier, so he really doesn't have the obligation to do anything else today besides laying here. There was no set schedule and they weren't summoned to do any work at the SM building so Yushi decided to check the apartment he owns. In the midst of his typically busy idol life, he rarely gets to check out this place. He couldn't leave it completely abandoned because he's the only one in his family who lives in Korea full-time.

He stays there unbothered by everything in the world.

Not until he hears a ring from his doorbell, which brings him back to the reality of his daily life. Yushi eventually lifts up his weight off the couch as he gets up from his slumped position. Yushi glances at the screen of the smart door entry system, attempting to be sly as a cat as he checks out who could be on the other side anticipating his response.

A familiar sweet smile looks at him through the screen, which makes his heart jump out of his chest for a second.

“Yushi!” Riku says, voice muffled due door separating them, bringing his face closer to the camera.

Yushi’s heart skips a beat as he takes in the face of the boy from the other side, the look in his eyes changing from drowsiness to fondness.

Without a word, Yushi opens the door for Riku.

“Hey! I was supposed to go to the dorm but the rain won’t stop and I don’t have an umbrella..” Riku says, slicking back his hair with his hand, and Yushi notices how the gesture exposes Riku's forehead, the slightly damp hair making his facial features more pronounced. His backpack was hung on his right shoulder, with that sweet smile that he reserves for everyone, not just for Yushi.

For a moment Yushi takes in his face for a bit too long and Yushi looks down for a second, before looking at Riku’s eyes again.

“Come in,” Yushi says, stepping aside and letting the older boy in his abode. “You can take a shower, it’s over there.” He points past the living room as he locks the front door.

“Oh and,” Riku says, as he looks at the direction of the bathroom. “Is it fine if I borrow a shirt? I have no extras so..” Riku trails off, tugging at the collar of his shirt out of habit as he looks back at Yushi. Yushi notices how Riku's compressed shirt got rained on a bit, the slight wetness of the fabric accentuating the ratio between his shoulders and tender looking slim waist.

“Of course you can, I'll give it to you.” Yushi replies, making his way back to the couch as he picks up the finished drink that he left on top of the coffee table earlier while he was playing a match on the PS5.

“Thank you Yushi~” Riku turns around and sits at the end of the L-shaped couch, dropping his backpack down the empty space on the floor right beside him.

Yushi walks inside his bedroom, in search for clothes to give to Riku and a towel at his walk-in closet. He grabs a new towel and a shirt from a cabinet that's a bit bigger than he usually wears, noting the fact that Riku's shoulders are slightly wider than his so it would fit the other boy better.

The younger boy walks back to the living room, fresh clothing and a towel in hand and hands it over to Riku, who was humming quietly while he was waiting for Yushi.

“I’ll be quick,” Riku says, standing up, hands instinctively touching Yushi’s arms as he walks past the younger boy in the small living room space, their bodies slightly brushing one another.

Yushi plops down the couch, tilting his head to the side sleepily. He hears Riku shut the bathroom door close, and the faint sound of the sink running. He picks up his phone from the coffee table, checking his latest notifications but nothing worth noting about work matters came up, just some messages from Sakuya.

Sent by Sakuya

Yushi taps the notification, and starts typing.

6:17 pm

Yushi sends his message.

He swipes to the left, scanning the rest of his unread messages. There was a reply from Jaehee, and he decides to open it.

5:58 pm
I retrieved the water bottle you left at the dance room
Sent by Jaehee

Yushi reacts with a heart on Jaehee's message.

He closes KakaoTalk with two swipes, and decides to open Instagram out of habit. Upon opening the app, he was greeted by Sion's post on his homepage. The older boy was wearing his gold The Little Prince necklace as usual, with his signature thumb-on-cheek pose that he's known for when posing for selfies.

Yushi leaves a like by double tapping Sion's post, and decides to tap on reels to pass his time, his feed mostly consisting of dance challenges and occasionally cat videos, as well as fans' posts about his own group. Eventually the scrolling starts to feel repetitive, and he closes the app with a few swipes.

He plops the phone down the coffee table again, clicking the silent mode button in the process, and leans back on the couch, his lips pursed.

A presence draws in closer to Yushi and he feels it. The familiar scent of his own soap starts to linger in the air of the living room. He turns his head to the side, looking up. Riku was there, holding the towel Yushi gave him on his shoulder, face fresh flushed red from the warm shower and his hair wet.

"There's dinner ready if you're hungry," Yushi says, eyeing over the dining room. Spending two hours on gaming unexpectedly took a toll on Yushi's hunger.

"Let's eat together," Riku says with a pout, placing a hand on Yushi's shoulder.

Between bites, Riku mentions how he went to the SM building to practice despite having nothing scheduled by the company. Of course he would. As a trainee, Riku would do nothing but practice choreography in-between breaks. All the other trainees would watch him continue practicing in front of the mirror as the rest of them sat on the floor to catch their breath. It's one of the reasons why Riku has always caught Yushi's eye. Even now, one year past their debut Yushi still notices how Riku focuses on practicing his basics hours before they actually practice as a group. The older boy pushes past his limits when it comes to his career and passion for dancing, and it's one of the things Yushi adores the most about Riku.

Meals are finished and dishes are washed.

They end up chilling on the couch, Yushi's head resting on top of Riku's shoulder.

"You should go back to the dorms. it's late, isn't it?" Yushi says, tilting his head to Riku's side to look at him.

Riku looks down at Yushi, lightly bumping his head on top of the younger boy's head, his hair blinding Yushi's vision. Something about the subtle scent of his own shampoo lingering in Riku's hair triggers a feeling of possessiveness from Yushi.

"We don't have a schedule tomorrow anyways so.. can I just stay here?" Riku asks, straitening up slightly as he was slowly unintentionally slipping down the couch. As if by instinct, he wraps his arm around Yushi's waist.

"Hmm. fine." Yushi says, rubbing his eye that was poked by the strands of Riku's hair.

Yushi's eyes flutter, and he kisses Riku back, their mouths melting onto each other's warmly.

He breaks the kiss and shifts on the couch, getting on his knees, and holds onto Riku's shoulders for balance as he plops down on Riku's lap, claiming his new spot. Both of Riku's hands reach for Yushi's waist without hesitation.

"Yushi." Riku breathes, his eyes glassy.

Yushi is the one closes the distance first.

Their mouths meet, and Yushi takes the liberty to lick Riku's lips, his tongue slipping past to get a taste of the older boy.

They kiss like they have all the time in the world to explore each other, unhurried as the kiss easily turns deeper.

Riku tugs him in closer until there's no space between them, chests flushed to one another. His hands snake under Yushi's hoodie, roaming greedily up and down his back, tracing every curve, drawing out a whine from Yushi's throat.

Yushi could barely think past the warm feeling of Riku's mouth on his own— and he doesn't need to. His other hand finds its way to hold onto the layers of Riku's thick hair, tugging the strands gently to tilt Riku's head as he devours the sweet taste him.

He doesn't have to think about whatever this is. They never call each other boyfriends in a serious tone, and yet Riku kisses him back like he belongs to no one but him, touches him like he doesn't want to let him go. In front of their peers and the cameras, they joke around and flirt like it's nothing. Sometimes they are really just lighthearted jokes for the show, but often the words and subtle brushes of their skin against each other stick to Yushi heavier than it should. Maybe that's supposed to haunt him, but it doesn't really matter. For now.

They're still young and caught up in the rush of their busy idol lives, messing around in this manner is enough. He just needs Riku to touch and hold him like this when the weight of their hectic lives eases for a moment.

The kiss continues slowly, and the heat remains steady.

Eventually Yushi lets his forehead rest against Riku's neck, breathing him in. He shifts just enough for his lips to graze the warmth of the older boy's tan skin, a fleeting touch that he wants to cherish time after time.

Riku's grip on his waist stays there, thumb brushing against the soft skin under his hoodie in circles as he holds Yushi tenderly, grounding him, holding him with a quiet tenderness that's enough for both of them at the moment.

Yushi closes his eyes, letting himself sink into Riku's hold, every line of his body fitting perfectly onto Riku's as if it's the only thing that can keep him grounded.
