Bharatanatyam

Summary:

Bharatanatyam is a short story about Blaze The Cat, and her issues with her past and opening up too people and being herself.

Work Text:

A tiny flame ignited from the palm of her gloved hand. She’d peek down on the dancing flicker, the tufts of her whiskers lifting away as she came closer.
“Larger.” A firmly coated voice asserted.
She attempted to ignite the flame even further, her hands quivering as she incessant.

“Larger.”

She squeezed her eyelids shut but to no avail as the flame grew smaller before ultimately falling to douse.

The kitten let out a sigh as she hauled her arms down, clenching her fists.

“Darling, what is with you this morning? It’s like all week you’ve been struggling with your flames.”

“I apologize, I’ll try my best tomorrow.”

“Maybe it’s best we take a break from the training, what do you say?” The feline lady arched down to her size, lifting the hemline of her long violet jeweled dress.

“No.. it’s fine, I should be doing better than this.” She strolled back to a door defeated, entering an orchid castle.

She walked through a magenta hall, massaging the crusts of her eyes before bumping into the leg of a man in a black suit.

“I-I apologize your majesty!” He’d bow to her.

“It’s fine.”

“We wanted to tell you about your little friend being here, she’s waiting for you in the main lobby.”

“Just send her to my room.”

“U-uh of course Ms. Blaze?”

She walked away from the man getting out of his line of sight, before dashing up multiple floors of the castle to her room slamming the door behind her and rushing to take her gown off tripping over her tremendous bed, before the door creeped open.

“Hey Blaze! whatcha doing?”

“Nothing I was.. cleaning my room.” She’d kick her dress underneath the bed.

“Hehe, you’re weird.” She’d walk over across the bed.

“Wanna play games!” She’d lift Blaze’s hand up wearing a toothy grin that missed a few teeth.

The duo went out of Blaze’s room roaming around the castle while playing tricks and games with one another. Eventually after a few hours they ended up in a lone dark room alone.

“C’mon, C’mon! You gotta show your flames!” She pulled blazes hand into the room.

“I’m not sure if they’ll even ignite Piper.”
“Yes it will! All you gotta do is smile!”

Blaze let out a light smile, before igniting both of her hands with large flames that soared to the sky.

“Wow..!”

“I-I’ve never had them this high..”

“You’re doing fine!” She’d remark, cheering her on.
Blaze smiled and began dancing with the flames, circling around the room the flames following suit.

She skimmed through the floor skipping like stones, tracing circles that ignited into a spiral of inferno, every turn every step, every sway every spin, it all bled like a flowing inlet. For this period of time she forgot it existed, she could hear the air twisting and burning, she could smell the area bleeding into fire, she could see the flames wrapping around the room, she could feel the warmth touching her feet a warmth that felt unwelcome yet it belonged, it didn’t feel like flames, it felt like-

“Blaze!”

“W-what happened?”

Standing there laying on the burnt floor was Piper with half her faces completely burnt but still somehow managing to shed tears from one her eyes.

“What happened here!” Graty ran over to Blaze, dusting her off.

“I knew you shouldn’t have been hanging out with such a hoodlum, look at what they made you do!”
Blaze shoved her aside, rushing over to Piper reaching out to touch her before she slapped her hand away.

“Stay away.. please..” Guardsmen came over grabbing Piper and yanking her out of the room leaving nothing but Blaze and Graty.

Blaze stood up, before looking down at her hands.

“Yo Blaze! You good, you’ve been out of it for a while.” The blue hedgehog clutched blaze’s hand, awaking her from the past.

“I’m fine, excuse me.” She’d get up from her seat walking outside of the dinner room, leaving the area with an uneasy feel.

“Eh mates! What’s the point of givin’ you a plate just so you could sit there and starin’ at it!” A young raccoon girl gave a slight punch to The Hedgehog.

“Oh sorry, Marine. Me and Sonic have been going everywhere around the capital and we’re pretty full from trying the food out here.” The young fox cub reassured.

“Well, why didn’t you say as much! I’ll be takin’ ya foods hope ya don’t mind!” She’d reach over and yank his plate.

“You can have mine too.” Sonic jumped out of his seat walking off towards the exit of the dining room.

Blaze leaned on the ledge, staring at delicate capital and looks above and seeing volcanoes spew azure lava. She raised her hand to her face, igniting a small flame.

“You doin’ alright?” Sonic remarked, zipping over to the ledge.

“Uh- I’m doing fine.” She’d extinguish the flame clenching her fists.

Sonic noticed, gleaming down at her fists. “Wait a second, do you come out here to just mess ‘round with your powers?”

“I- it’s not messing around, just mostly training to get my mind straight sometimes I even dance.”

“Can I watch?”

“You shouldn’t..”

“Aight then, but why not?”

“You could get burnt..”

Sonic looked at Blaze in her eyes, before bursting out laughing.

“W-what’s so.. why are you laughing!”

Sonic continued to laugh holding his stomach as he did.

“What is so funny!”

“Heh heh, we both know that’s not going to happen.”
Sonic walked over grabbing her hand and raising her palm.

“I refuse to be afraid of who you are, and you should too.”

The flame began to ignite shooting into the sky.
“It’s dangerous..”

“I know, but that’s why it’s fun. Wanna dance together?” Sonic got closer to Blaze’s face ignoring the flame wearing a bright smile.

“Sure!” She also wore a bright smile, the two danced off into the night unapologetically emanating the capital.
