Chapter Text

Kinich couldn't remember his life from before. All he knew was just needles, painful transformations, and being a sort of disposal for human remains. He... thought he hated this. But they had given him something that blocked off his emotions his first day of being here.

He was currently curled up in the corner of the room they'd given him, his tail wrapped around his body. Green and yellow in color, it reminded him of a dragon. Perhaps he was a dragon now. It should've terrified him, but the tail and the horns had been there for a while. All he needed was wings... and maybe some sunglasses. It was always bright in the room besides when it was feeding time.

Speaking of, the lights had gone out. His eyes automatically adjusted. He'd been able to see perfectly in the dark for longer than he'd had the tail and horns. He slowly perked up, staring at the door. What would they bring to him this time..?

The door opened, and a worker (he'd grown used to calling them his... 'parents') shoved a person inside. She landed on her knees, whimpering quietly. It didn't take him long to realize she'd been gagged. Poor girl. The door closed. He took this as his cue to start creeping towards her. He knew humans couldn't see in the dark all too well, so all she likely heard was a slithering getting closer.

He stopped once he was in front of the girl. He'd crouched to make him tower over her. He liked being taller than his food, for some reason. Maybe it was instinct. She seemed to have caught a glimpse of his sillhouette now, as she tilted her head up. He could clearly see the terror on her face. Surely he wasn't that scary. Yet.

He stared down at her, an image flashing through his mind. The same girl, just shining brighter than the sun (he had forgotten what that was) and smiling widely as she rambled about nothing to him. He knew this girl. What was her name again..? One settled in his mind. Mualani. He knew a Mualani once, he thinks. Was she Mualani?

Kinich slowly leaned closer to her. She whimpered in fear. His tail wrapped around her. She shivered and closed her eyes. He didn't like that. He used two of his fingers (claws, his 'parents' had called them) and placed them on her eyelids. As gently as possible, he reopened her eyes.

"I know you..." He muttered, his voice low to keep prying ears oblivious. He was shocked he could still speak. He'd been accustomed to growling for what felt like years now. Her eyes widened slightly in recognition. He knew then.

This was Mualani. His... girlfriend, his mind hazily said. Girlfriend... what a weird word. His mind was able to substitute the word with 'mate'. She was his mate. Yes, that felt right. If she was his mate, he couldn't just hurt her, right? He then noticed that they had tied her hands behind her back. Poor girl. He used a claw to easily slice through the fabric.

Instantly, her hands came up to cup his face. The touch was gentle, 'caring'. It shocked him. He wasn't used to gentle and caring. He was used to pain and indifference. It felt... nice. He brought his hand up, gingerly cutting the gag they'd given her. He watched as she spit the gag out to the side. She hesitated for a bit before gazing back up at him.

"Kinich..?" Her voice sounded, echoing in the silence that followed. His name... it sounded beautiful, coming from her lips. He, very slowly, leaned into her touch. It felt nice. But he could hear the wires in the ceiling flowing with electricity. The lights were about to turn back on. He growled slightly, before picking her up with his tail and moving back to his corner. He curled up again, this time with her safely in his arms.

The lights turned back on, and something compelled him to cover her eyes. If it was bright for him, it must be blinding for her, right? The door opened again, a worker peeking inside. He glared at them, his tail shielding her from the worker. They muttered a few things to someone behind them, before shutting the door again.

He could feel her hands caressing his tail. He glanced down at her, flicking his tail in curiosity. She gazed up at him, her eyes widening as she finally got to see him. He tilted his head. What was she thinking?

Her hands found their way back to his face. He let out a sound, close to a purr of sorts.
"Oh, baby... what have they done to you..?" She whispered out, her voice cracking at the end. Was she... feeling sympathy for him? Why? He didn't deserve it.

She buried her face in his chest, and a warm feeling spread throughout his body. He felt the need to protect her at all costs. And he'd always been one to act on instinct. His arms wrapped around her, keeping her close. He closed his eyes. After a moment or two, he felt her press against his jaw. He couldn't tell what exactly she did, but it felt nice.

"I'll get us out of here. I promise." She whispered gently, before falling silent. A few moments later, he heard soft snoring from her. Ah, she fell asleep. He thought bck on her words. Out of here... that was possible? Was there really an outside to the outside of his room? Was that where the sun was?

As he cuddled up, he thought of one thing.

He wanted to see the outside of the outside.

Notes:

Kinich's form here is just him but with Ajaw tail and horns. I'm on a 50/50 on if I wanna torture him into growing wings or not. Also I wrote this at 2:30 am so sorgies if there's mistakes. I might write more to this, who knows?

Edit: Please don't reach out about creating official art for this fanfic. Thanks for the offers, but I'm able to do that myself. Fanart is okay though! My tiktok is the same as my user here! That's all, bye!
