Work Text:
It had just been a normal day on the hermitcraft server (and arguably, still was) when Gem got bored and started exploring other hermit’s bases. Maybe she could even get some inspiration if she was lucky!
She had just been flying around the server mindlessly looking for the hermit’s bases when she had landed near Etho’s base.
For most of the other hermit’s bases, she really only looked at the outside and maybe a brief look at the interior near the entrance. But the idea of potentially messing with Etho was too enticing, so that’s how she ended up exploring his interior.
After moving past the contraptions she didn’t understand, being sure to avoid touching any visible redstone and potentially breaking them (unlike a certain red winged hermit she knew), she had finally reached a room she could recognise- the bedroom. What took her attention though wasn’t the decorations layer around (they did look rather appealing though), but the open wardrobe.
It wasn’t anything too interesting- in fact, the clothing selection was pretty sparse compared to the average user. Surprisingly though, there were more clothes then Gem had expected, considering she’s only seen the man in one outfit throughout her time in the server.
To add on to her shock, they looked rather stylish. Nothing extravagant of course, but it still looked good.
Of course, after learning of Etho’s wardrobe, she did the best thing she could in that scenario: try on some of the clothing! Taking a brief look through, she chose out a simple but elegant looking black jacket. It definitely wouldn’t fit her perfectly, but hey, you only ever live once!
She hadn’t expected much upon wearing it, but she certainly didn’t expect how comfy it would be.
What the hell?! Gem had worn many different outfits in her life, but none of them were anywhere remotely as comfortable as this! She feels like she could die in this and be happy! (Okay, maybe that was a little dark, but it was really cozy!)
She decided to try on another one (This time she wore a black turtleneck) and it was the exact same thing! Gem had continued looking through the clothing selection when she heard another voice.
“What are you doing in my house?” Gem jumped upon hearing the voice. Right- she had forgotten she was currently at Etho’s place and not her own abode. She turned around to see Etho standing innocently at the entrance, acting like this was normal and that she hadn’t just found out one of the most revolutionary things about him. She took a second to readjust herself and cleared her throat before speaking.
“YOU, MISTER! Since when did you have clothes THIS comfortable?! I have NEVER felt anything like this! Where in the world are you finding these? Tell me now!” She demanded rather abruptly (for Etho at least) and started holding tightly onto his shoulders. Rather than responding like Gem hoped he would, the fox hybrid instead stood in place, shocked and confused.
“H-hey woah woah! It’s just some clothing.” Gem narrowed her eyes at him before she let go of him. The man took a second to catch his breath before he remembered Gem’s question.
“Well, I kinda just…buy them from random stores on the hub? There is one shop I like revisiting, but it has a pretty limited selection. I also occasionally go to thrift stores.” He said it so casually, like it wasn’t the most unbelievable thing ever. Random stores? How is that possible? Gem had gone shopping to so many stores, and nothing ever felt as good as what Etho’s wardrobe had. To be able to stumble upon that randomly, and do so multiple times too! Etho must’ve been the luckiest man alive.
“Okay, next time you go shopping for clothes, you better bring me along. I need to see what stores you’re going to if you’re finding clothes like this! Oh and I’m stealing some of these by the way.” Gem pointed intimidatingly at Etho. Etho was a bit shocked to see how eager she was to go shopping with him, but he could work with it.
“Oh, um, okay then? I don’t go shopping for clothes much though.” He responded while Gem ran off holding the jacket and turtleneck she stole borrowed from him, shouting something that sounded like “it’s a deal!”.
