Work Text:
It was just the regularly scheduled hermitcraft meeting, hermits were seated in the comically large room in no particular order. As per usual, the meeting was rather unproductive. Topics were being thrown up randomly and nothing truly usuful was happening when the subject of Grian’s watcher status was brought up.
“Oh hey, Joel, Skizz, you haven’t seen Grian’s watcher form have you? I’d like to see your guys reaction to it.” Impulse asked. Joel felt a little bit of whiplash hearing Grian being a watcher being brought up so casually. In the past, he’d have to keep any and all information about that private, lest the parrot man would get in trouble.
After quickly recovering, Joel thought about it. Indeed, he hadn’t ever seen Grian’s watcher form for himself. While he did know about Grian’s status as a watcher, he wasn’t aware of this watcher form they were bringing up.
“Oh, oh! Pleaseee show Joel! He’d give such a good reaction!! Please, please, pleeaaasseee Griii!” Gem stood up just to aggressively shake Grian by his shoulders like her annoying little sister.
Okay, now I'm really interested in this. How riveting could this transformation be to warrant a reaction like that? Joel had to see this for himself. Would it be scary? Would it be funny? Or non-sensical? Would he even be able to recognise that was Grian? He knew watchers had tons of eyes, but he truly had no idea what it could possibly look like
After an impromptu fight between Doc and Grian, another agonising hour of little productivity, the meeting was finally over.
(When Joel was leaving, he saw Skizz and Grian flying off together as well. Probably to show Skizz what Grian looked like in his watcher form.)
It had been a day after the meeting. Joel was just going about his morning when he remember the discussion of Grian’s watcher form. Almost immediately, he went off searching for the main subject of the topic, the matter having becoming his top priority at the moment
Unsurprisingly, the man was found at the dock outside his base, fishing. Again. He seemed to be zoning out too, only fixated on the ocean and fishing rod. At the rate he was going, Joel was starting to think the ocean was possessing the man.
“Oi, big man G!” Joel called out as he flew down. Grian was snapped out of his daze, turning around towards the direction of the voice. (Joel was never going to get used to seeing Grian with a beard.)
“Hello, Joel. Can I help you?” Grian said, putting away his fishing rod.
“Yeah, yeah, say, you remember yesterday at the meeting when they brought up your watcher form? Yeah? Well I wanna see it.” He said rather confidently. Grian blinked for a second, seemingly trying to recall what conversation Joel was talking about before remembering.
“Oh! Um, you sure though? It’s rather scary. I wouldn’t recommend seeing it if you wanted to get some sleep at night.” Grian warned him. Pft, as if! Surely it couldn’t be that bad. I mean, Grian barely even reached Joel’s shoulders!
“I can totally handle it- I’m big man Joel! There’s nothing I can’t handle!” Joel declared. Alright, maybe he had been playing up the bravado, but he genuinely thought he could handle it! It was Grian of all people for gods sake, how scary could he be?
“Alright, if you say so! Don’t say I didn’t warn ya, though.” Within the second, Grian had morphed into something far more unrecognisable.
Grian towered over him in this form. Millions of eyes staring down at him sprouted from his body. In addition to the eyes on his face, there was two sets of ring covered in eyes, circling each other to form something similar to an X. Behind him stood a large, almost angelic halo, with wings protruding outwards to hide one giant eye in the middle of it. Even more halos wrapped around his body; neck, head, wrist, and more. On his back were more giant wings, almost large enough to block out the sunlight. The wings had even more eyes scattered on them. He wore robes that were tattered and torn, trailing down behind him.
What the fuck.
The scream he let out was hysterical. If anyone else were here to hear him, they would’ve fallen over laughing. Joel himself was mortified. His feet were planted to the ground as he continued staring at the creature before him, unable to tear his eyes away.
Within almost the blink of an eye, the giant creature standing before him vanished. In it’s place, the short, red sweater wearing parrot hybrid returned, wearing the most innocent smile on his face like he didn’t just transform into the most horrific thing Joel’s ever seen in his life moments ago.
“GRIAN WHAT THE BLOODY HELL WAS THAT?!? THAT’S BLOODY YOU?!” Joel practically screeched. Grian was unable to hold in his laughter and let out a small chuckle initially, which turned into him doubling over crying tears of laughter as Joel continued screaming at him.
After a few minutes, both of them had finally calmed down (Grian was still crying out some tears) enough to have a conversation.
“Hey, I told ya! I said it was scary.” Grian teased him, the grin already present on his face widening even more
“God I’m going to fucking kill you for that one day…new, wait, how did Skizz react? I know I’m not the only one who hadn’t seen it before.” Joel asked. To be honest, he wasn’t REALLY interested in Skizz’s reaction initially, but he needed something to soothe ego, even if it seemed rather pathetic.
“Oh yeah! Actually, Skizz reacted pretty calmly. He even said he liked it!” What.
Joel’s face went wide at that. How?! That, thing? was fucking terrifying! How could anyone possible like it?! Let alone feel comfort at the sight!
As if sensing his confusion, Grian quickly explained himself. Turns out, Joel had forgotten Skizz was an angel and thereby, used to the sight of creepy eldritch holy looking creatures.
Well, there went Joel’s ego for the rest of the night.
(“Sooooo, I heard that Grian showed you his watcher form. How’d it go?”
“…I don’t want to talk about it, Gem.”
“Wow, how rude! Don’t worry though, I already heard everything from Grian!”)
