Gone Fishing

Summary:

A fishing trip, partially from the fish's perspective.

Work Text:

"It's amazing! On Route 32, QWILFISH are biting like there is no tomorrow. KRIS, bring your ROD, buddy!"

"You've never gone fishing before?!" the blue haired girl asked a little too loudly and a little too close to his face.

Silver's face scrunched up as he backed away. Did his rival always have to be so obnoxious?

"No, why would? To get a stupid magikarp? No thanks."

Kris glared back at him. "Nu-uh! To get cool rare ones like lanturn and corsola! I heard you can even get dratini!"

Now this piqued his interest. While he didn't like her interrupting his training sessions in the Dragon's Den constantly and the very idea of having to deal with her on one of his free days would be annoying, catching a rare and strong pokémon could give him the edge he needed to finally beat her.

"Fine. I guess I'll go, but don't I need stuff to do that?"

Immediately she perked up.

"YES!" She pumped her fist. "No worries, I have an extra rod you can borrow. Just meet me at the bridge on Route 32."

Qwilfish swam along the river, many others nearby. While they were usually fairly solitary, now was a good time to head out near where the cosola were for some good snacking. Usually they'd have some good algae growing on them, making them extra filling.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, she saw it. Was that the glint of a krabby shell on the river bed?

Rather than take the rare treat for granted, she quicker zoned in on it before the rest of them could see and take her meal for themselves.

Out of the water, she could see two human children, gawking. She was used to other qwilfish giving her strange looks and swimming away.

"Uhhh, why is it purple? Aren't they supposed to be blue?" asked the one with red hair who held the rod she dangled from.

"That's 'cause it's shiny! Catch it! Catch it!", yelled his blue haired companion.

"Don't tell me what to do!" he yelled, but threw out his crobat anyway.

Immediately she unleashed her poison spikes.

"Crobat, bite!"

As she prepared herself to dodge, she could hear the other child call out, "Wait! Crobat's too strong! You don't want it to faint!"

The first child growled.

"Fine! Crobat, confuse ray!"

"But you caught it with my rod, therefore that's my pokémon!"

"What does that matter? I battled it and I caught it, so it's mine!"

"You wouldn't have even been out here if it weren't for me!"

"I wouldn't have wasted a whole day if it weren't for you. The least you could do is let me keep it as payment for my time!"

How strange, she thought over the sound of bickering children. No one was ever interested in her before, much less fought over her. Qwilfish was not used to this kind of attention, but she sure liked it.
