Work Text:
How could Alex describe the last week? A week of travelling 1000 miles around the country, living out of a suitcase. Surviving on 3 hours of sleep a night, copious amounts of caffeine, too much alcohol and pure adrenaline.
The 4am wakeup calls to be the first outside the venue. Countless hours queing. The February wind freezing them to the bone as they huddled underneath blankets and duvets. All were made worth it when they touched that metal barrier. Front, centre, infront of their favourite band. Again.
He and Jack had been on a tour of the country, following their favourite band to every city. Night after night, screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs. As if at that moment the world stood still. Nothing else mattered. It was pure happiness.
They'd been joined by countless old friends, people they'd met throughout the years of following the band. Friends for life due to sharing the same addiction to the music. Along the way, they added to their ever-growing circle. Always having a motto of "the more, the merrier" pulling in whoever was willing to put up with their crazy fan boy antics.
The numerous hotel rooms strewn with clothes, people sleeping wherever they could find space. Three bodies curled up on a double bed, others napping on the floor. Taking any quiet moment to get some sleep. It made it cheap, doable, and gave them a multitude of stories to tell for years to come.
The band recognised them by now. Of course they did. The kids that were always there. At the front, tears in their eyes, jumping up and down with excitment. As if every night was the first live show they had seen. The lead singer even questioned them one day, asking if they had nothing better to do?. All while laughing with them about being sat on the pavement in the cold. Of course they didnt. This was all they wanted. They were at their happiest.
Alex looked down at Jack next to him. Laid across the trains tray table, mouth hanging slightly open, fast asleep. The final one of the week, taking them home. Alex had lost count of the amount of hours they'd spent travelling. Usually he caught up on sleep too, but this time he wanted to preserve the moment as long as possible. Making the tour live on for as long as he could. The memories they'd made together would last a lifetime.
Jack jumped awake as the train jolted into a station. "I'm so tiredddd" he complained, leaning into his boyfriend, smushing his face into Alex's hoody.
"We'll be home soon, you can sleep as long as you want then."
Alex knew mentioning home wasn't ideal, but it slipped out before he could stop it.
"I'd much rather be tired in a hotel following the tour again," Jack yawned, closing his eyes.
"Well, there's always next year." They both knew they'd drop everything the moment the tour was announced.
