Work Text:
It started small. The watcher siblings were known to cause chaos wherever they were to be found. Obsessions had formed long before they could even choose. The whispered encouragement to spread these behaviors. A way of enabling each other in their mutual obsessions.
A watchful eye always falling their dear beloveds no matter where they would try to run. Watching them all so lovingly. Keeping them within sight, always letting them feel their beloveds’ warmth. A sweet melody to them that guided them to their loves. So that they could share their obsession with them forever.
It took less than a day for Cleo to notice it. A purple eye with specks of the moon following her. Yet she was curious about it, they didn’t actively try to run but she didn’t try to fight it either. It drew her in when she first noticed it. The constant presence that would never leave their side. Ever since they had met her.
The shining pearl amongst the newcomers. A pit forming in the back of her throat as Pearl had kept them close. Even when they were sworn enemies, at least by Pearl’s decree. As it didn’t take long to release that it had been Pearl watching her. Mentioning things that they had never said around Pearl. Knowing her daily routine. Slipping in ideas of how she could get her needed revenge.
Cleo decided to get close to Pearl, much to her delight. They’d talk endlessly about their plans for the future. All while Cleo snuck hidden cameras into her place. It was fair, right? After all Pearl had an eye watching her all the time. It’s only fair they’d get to watch her too! It’s only right they get to watch their Pearl.
Cleo had no knowledge that the same would happen in Scar’s corner. Though he had taken longer to realize it. Yet it had been going on longer than Cleo’s. He just thought others had slipped information to Grian. Or that he might’ve slipped information himself.
But he always kept an eye on Grian, just as Grian kept his eye on Scar. Only ever on Scar. It didn’t take long after their first goofy encounter for Grian to fall head over heels for the man. He took to helping Scar often. Helping the man with his beck and call. All Scar needed to do was ask and Grian would fly there eagerly.
Scar had fallen for the man, interior and exterior. He knew of Grian’s stalking eyes. It had somehow added to his charm. He kept him close. Never wanting him to leave. Feeling the cold rush into his body every time Grian had to leave. He grasped at straws to make him stay. He’d often debated whether he should just lock him in a cage. Though deciding it was too cruel. Yet he still tried to keep him close. Muttering excuses to keep him by his side.
Even creating an excuse to install cameras into Grian’s base. “Safety Measures” He called it, but he was an excellent manipulator. He had to be to keep Grian by his side. To have Grian never leave. His Grian.
Watchful eyes followed them. Cameras had watched over the watchers. They knew the cameras were there. They weren’t stupid. They gushed over how their chosen ones had the same infatuation as they did. Pearl would give Grian tips and he’d share some tips as well. All to keep their beloved close.
Pearl longing to be close to Cleo at every second. Wanting to be near her, wanting them to understand her. Needing Cleo to understand her. As she knew no one else would besides her own brother. She was truly attached to Cleo’s hip. She wanted to breathe the same air as Cleo did. She wanted to feel the same way as Cleo did. She wanted Cleo’s ever so humane emotions to consume her.
Pearl had convinced Cleo that the eye was for her safety. To make sure she’d never be hurt. That even if they got hurt, Pearl would find them and help her. Wanting to keep her darling safe, completely safe. Pearl never wanted harm for Cleo, never. She would always protect her zombie, mostly when she couldn’t protect herself though. Pearl knew that Cleo was powerful enough to protect herself.
Grian was very aware of his sister’s behavior. After all, he was the one to encourage it. He watched as she stalked over Cleo, how she was desperate to impress Cleo. How eager she was to appease Cleo. He had seen himself before.
That’s how he was with Scar at first. Always trying to impress him, always watching over him. Yet he always stayed near. Always willing to give Scar cuddles, always willing to give Scar a helping hand. Wanting him, needing him. He adored Scar, longing to forever be near him.
He kept his eyes watching Scar. Waiting for the right moment to help. Waiting for the right moment to swing Scar off his feet and into his arms. Not knowing he had already done that. With Pearl’s advice and his own charm he swiftly got Scar all to himself.
Just as Cleo had Pearl. The two watchers decided now with their loved ones in their tight grasps, it was time to worry about… other things. A tripwire here, a pressure plate there. Chaos began brewing. Making sure that they would never be traced.
Enabling each other in their pranks as each one got more twisted and cruel. A creeper death here, a lava death there. A branch of chaos began to grow. Deaths that got more disturbing and elaborate.
A vex released in Ren’s base. A warden was released near Skizz. A raid being brought to Impulse. The siblings spread destruction that left others in ruins. All while cuddled up with their loves. Acting all innocent. Claiming they were too busy with their builds. Having Scar and Cleo be their alibis. Sometimes combining both excuses together.
More chaos began to spread as they longed for the taste of suffering, yet they didn’t want to cause their loved ones a single worry. The only area the chaos didn’t spread was Scar’s and Cleo’s. Not daring to harm their dearest emeralds. All they did was watch them, they never had the intention to bring harm to Cleo and Scar.
Their twisted feast still continued growing on and on. A never ending feast of despair and sorrow. A life fitting for the two Watchers. The sun that held the earth. The moon that held the comet. A sweet melody that would always cover them eternally.
