Work Text:
"C'mere, kid."
Bobby pulls Buck in close, arm wrapping around him securely and he lets his head fall against his chest.
Bobby plants a gentle kiss on the top of Buck's curls, and Buck closes his eyes in content.
"I missed you." Bobby's voice is quiet and Buck feels his chest squeeze.
"I missed you, too."
He's still getting used to living on his own.
Sure, he's been moved out for a while now, but this is the first time he's lived somewhere by himself. No parents, no roommates, no partner, just... Himself.
It's nice having his own space. It's nice being able to do what he wants.
But it's also lonely.
Hence... This impromptu sleepover back at his parents.
"You need to come by more often. We have too many leftovers without you here." Bobby tells him, squeezing him in closer, and Buck huffs in fond amusement.
"We literally work together, Dad. You cook for me at work all the time."
"That's not the same and you know it."
He does, but he still thinks his dad is being a bit dramatic.
Bobby's grip relaxes, and they both sink deeper into the couch. "How have you been finding the loft? No neighbours I need to worry about?"
Buck rolls his eyes. "No, you do not need to start investigating my neighbours, oh my god, Dad."
"Don't oh my god me. You and I both know that Michael and I found a dangerous illegal clinic! We helped people!"
"By being creepy and stalking them."
He feels a light tap to the head, and he laughs, even as his dad groans.
"You're unbelievable, you know that?"
"Yeah, yeah Old Man."
"So? The loft?"
"It's nice." Buck says, not really sure what else to say. He's only been in it for three days. "I like the view."
"And?" His dad pokes him and he light-heartedly glares back.
"It hasn't been that long, Dad! Give it time."
"Okay. But you know you can talk to me, right? If you're having any troubles." Bobby has his Serious Voice™ on, but Buck can't find it in himself to be as annoyed at it as usual.
"Yeah. I promise, Pops."
Bobby squeezes him in another hug, and this time Buck squeezes back.
It's silly. He sees his dad almost every day at work, and yet-
He really did miss him.
There's something different about them at work and them at home.
They do their best to keep things professional, even though his Dad isn't the exact best at it when it comes to the more dangerous stuff.
At home, Buck can relax and be a bit more like a kid again.
Especially at the house.
There's something comforting about being where he grew up.
A lot of things have changed over the year, but some things... Some things have stayed.
"I love you, Dad." Buck says, eyes falling shut as a sudden wave of peace washes over him.
"I love you too, Evan."
Athena finds them there later that night when she returns from work, the two of them soundly asleep on the couch.
She takes a photo to send to the group chat, captioning it with: my boys ❤️.
Eventually she'll wake them up for dinner, but for now she lets them rest.
