Lauren knocked the red door in front of her, exited to see her brother for the first time in almost a year.
After a minute, Scott opened the door. "Your here!" He smiled as he saw her.
Lauren grinned, quickly hugging her brother for a second. Scott seemed like he didn't change at all from the last time they had met up. Well... thats what she thought at first, though now that she looked at him, she noted a few differences.
His normally teal blue eyes took on a more redder look (contacts?) And his blue hair seemed almost whiter.
"Its been a while," She commented. She couldn't be mad though- It was mostly probably her fault with all her jobs.
"For real!" Scott agreed, turning back inside weirdly gracefully before he added, "You can come inside,"
Lauren felt confused for a second as she had never thought otherwise but quickly followed her brother into his house excitedly, closing the door behind her.
The inside of the house was just as neat and colorful as the last time she was here, although she didn't see any of the greenery that Scott had. "Did you move your plants to a different room?"
He blinked.
"Oh, no. Just didn't have time to take care of them so I gave them away." Scott shrugged. That is weird... Lauren rembered how proud of himself her brother was when he had first started to grow them. He had a faraway look in his eyes when he said that but gave a soft smiled to her.
"I missed you." He said quietly, as if he was afraid he'd scare her off. Lauren was concerned at how weak his voice was when she noticed how pale he was. Had Scott been through a rough time?
"I missed you to." She replied although more awkwardly. The purple haired girl quickly changed topics. "So I'm sleeping in the guest room?"
Scott nodded, "Yeah, you are. I'll give you some time to unpack. After all its not often you have time off from working."
"Okay thanks. See you soon!" Lauren hurriedly moved to the upstairs, remembering the guest room from the end of the hall.
The guest room was pretty simple all and all, only having a simple bed and closet inside. Huh. Lauren could have sworn that there was a mirror that hung on the wall. Perhaps it broke.
Lauren slipped her bag off her shoulders and unpacked the contents that was inside.
Once she was done unpacking she looked back out into the hallway. Lauren started to check her messages on her phone when she saw that it was almost dead. She sighed softly. She guesses she can check on her boyfriend and dog after she charges her phone.
But when she looked back into the guest room, she realized that she had forgotten one of the most important things. Her charger.
"Nooo!" Lauren muttered to herself. Okay. She looked back out of the hallway, seeing Scotts room on the other end of the hallway. He was still downstairs...
Now, if Lauren asked her brother nicely, she's pretty sure he'll let her borrow his. But its been awhile since she'd mess with Scott.
She smiled as she snuck into his room quietly.
Lauren slapped her mouth with her hands to stifle a gasp as she saw inside.
The room itself was dark, windows covered up. Clothes, and trash littered the ground. A mirror that was on Scotts closet door was smashed into pieces that had not been picked up off the floor.
Red was splattered onto the walls. Lauren was pale as she panicked. Please say thats not blood. Images from some of her past jobs flashed in her mind.
Across from Scotts messy teal bed was a desk covered with papers messily put into a pile.
Lauren winced at the smell. That's not- its not what she thinks it is. Right?
She walked slowly to where the smell got stronger. Why is she doing that??? She needs to GO.
NOW.
Yet it was like Lauren couldn't control her own body.
The smell came from a trash can near the desk.
It was a dead chicken.
"Why are you in my room?" A voice came from behind the purple haired women. Lauren turned shakily to Scott, his eyes wide. They almost looked scared.
"S-Scott. What is this...?" Surely there was a reasonable explanation for this. Of course. Its not possible that her brother is a-
"Why are you in my room?" Scott asked more sternly. But Lauren could hear the slight shake in his voice. He surely can't be!
"I was looking to see i-if you had a charger. I didn't- Scott what is this?"
He was quiet for a few seconds. "I- I have been having a bad past few weeks. Its not- it is not as bad as it looks."
"You're not a vampire... are you?" Lauren asked nervously. But she knew he wouldn't it to her. Not about this.
"...I can't- uh. I promise I'll tell you tomorrow. I'll explain everything." Scott swore. He then sighed. "I thought I would have more time."
"Its getting late. I had ordered some pizza for you, but I think you could need some sleep." He told Lauren.
She stared for a minute. "Um." She couldn't wrap her hear around everything. "No... I'll get some pizza."
She left the room in a hurry. Scott followed close behind.
They didn't speak again the rest of the night.
Lauren ate a few pieces of pizza before she wondered back to the guest room she was staying in.
It took everything in her not to throw up her dinner.
She couldn't sleep. She already was bad at getting to bed- probably a side effect from all her terrifying jobs.
But now she felt even worse.
The shadows loomed close to her, she could feel invisible eyes staring as she ran through scenario after scenario in her head.
Eventually, she couldn't keep her eyes close. It was impossible to know when she had fell asleep.
Lauren dreamed of a dead chicken reviving. Than she felt a terrible pain in her neck.
