Chapter Text
Kamimura sighs as he shuts his door. It’s been another rough day - but what day isn’t rough for him at the moment? Between his job as a crime scene cleaner and his Cataplexy acting up more than usual today, he’s more exhausted than usual. In addition to that, his neighbour keeps trying to make pleasant conversation with him. He has no idea how they haven’t gotten the message that he wants to be left alone by now. Breathing out, he kicks his shoes off, puts his bag away, and moves towards the kitchen to make a simple dinner for himself. He settles on making a quick soup for himself, as he really doesn’t have the energy to plan out an entire meal for himself right now.
He drags himself to the sofa and puts on Tokyo Gore Police. Honestly, he deserves to watch something nice every now and then. It’s like the world's out to get him today, but what the fuck else is new? There aren’t many ways his life could be worse right now.
It would be perfectly fine if people wouldn’t stop bothering him all the time. You’d think people would leave you alone at a crime scene, but apparently not! Every minute there’s something or someone else - ‘Kamimura, are you sure that you’re well enough to work on this?’ ‘Kamimura, you can take a break if you want!’ ‘Kamimura, you don’t look well, go sit down for a minute!’. Why does everyone treat him like he’s incapable of living? His supervisors are always on his ass, treating him like he can’t do a simple clean without killing himself. Everybody treats him as if he’s fragile glass that could be shattered whenever he works, or walks, or does anything other than lying in bed pathetically, calling out to others to help his poor, fragile, weak body. Jesus, others’ perspective of chronically ill people is fucked.
He’s sick of them. He’s sick of this.
As he’s ruminating in his daily self-loathing, he hears a knock at the door. A swift glance at the clock tells him that it’s midnight, which leads him to question who’s at his door. Deciding that it must be a delivery man of some sorts, Kamimura walks over to his front door, pulling it wide open.
The sight he sees makes his mouth drop wide open.
Outside his door stands a man with the palest skin he’s seen in his entire life. Like, seriously, he doesn’t leave his house unless he’s got a job, and even Kamimura is more tanned than this guy. He’s tall, towering over him slightly as he looks down upon him with an almost nervous air. The man had shoulder length brown hair, and a matching brown eye with an eyepatch covering his other one. His coat swept from behind him in the midnight breeze, enshrouding his suit in a cape of black. The suit he wore was black, with some fancy intrinsical patterns that Kamimura didn’t know how to categorise. He looked exhausted, with dark circles around his eyes.
Gaining back his critical thinking and observation skills, Kamimura could see two fangs poking out of his nervously upturned mouth. Blood trickled down from the corners of his lips, down to his neck. Bloodshot eyes found his own, staring him down with a surprising mix of threat and uncertainty.
Great, another fucking nerd at his house. Kamimura scoffed slightly, looking him in the eyes.
“Halloween is next week, idiot.”
The idiot in question stammered over his words slightly, before responding.
“I-I know that! What do you think I'm doing here?”
“Well, I thought you were delivering my package, but now I think you want free candy or some shit. You look my age. You’re still trick or treating?”
He looks taken aback at this statement. Shit, maybe that was a little bit mean. Maybe this kid really does just enjoy trick or treating.
As Kamimura is about to apologise, the man takes a deep breath in, and out, and composes himself.
“My name is Hasegawa Ken, and I’m here to suck your blood.”
Kazutoshi is surprised for a second, before he has to bite his cheek to stop himself from breaking out into laughter. He looks Hasegawa up and down, leaning on the doorframe to ask him something.
“Wow, really? What’s next? Gonna eat my brains? Gonna claw my heart out? You’re cute.”
Hasegawa looks scandalised. Clearly, this isn’t how he thought this conversation would go for him. He’s fun to tease.
“N-no! Jesus, what do you think a vampire is?”
“I’m kidding. Well then, Hasegawa, go ahead! I’m all yours!”
He’s had a bad day, he might as well mess with a cute stranger that’s on his doorstep. He feigns baring his neck to Hasegawa, dramatically pulling his jumper to one side.
Imagine his surprise when the man on his doorset tries moving closer, teeth bared. Kamimura jumps back in shock, clutching his neck.
“What the fuck man?! What do you think you’re doing?!”
Hasegawa blinks.
“...sucking your blood?”
It finally dawns on Kamimura that he was serious.
“Wow, you take this cosplay shit seriously, huh? You still can’t go around biting people, dude.”
Hasegawa sighs loudly, and raises his voice.
“Stop saying I’m cosplaying! What would I get from going out on the street and cosplaying as a vampire? Have you seriously never heard of a vampire before?’
Kamimura’s interested now.
“Well, yes, of course I've heard of a vampire before. It’s common knowledge. Common knowledge also, however, says that vampires aren’t real. What about that, huh?”
“Well, actually, vampires have existed since around 4000BC. The earliest records of them stem from ancient Sumerians! The first actual vampire was only recorded around the 17th century, but we’ve existed throughout history! In fact, did you know that in 1919, a vampire actually-”
Kamimura cuts him off, sensing a very long vampire oriented rant coming his way. While he’s been ignoring Hasegawa, he notices how thin his suit is, despite how beautifully it’s designed. He thinks that, fuck it, his day can’t get any worse, and this guy is cute enough, he might as well get some company.
“Yeah, yeah, vampires, real as fuck. You can’t be warm in that outfit. Why don’t you come in for a bit? I can get you something to drink if you want?”
Hasegawa takes his pointer finger down from its position in the air.
“I mean - I guess, sure. I’ve been trying to get a drink this whole time, and you’re just offering it to me now?”
“Yeah, sure. Just come inside.”
He realises that he never actually introduced himself.
“Oh, by the way, I’m Kamimura. Kamimura Kazutoshi.”
—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hasegawa takes a step through Kamimura’s door, his cape finally settling on the ground. Now that Hasegawa is inside, Kamimura can see him a bit clearer. In the light, he can see that his pale skin is actually closer to grey, almost white, and his eyes are darker than he thought. The nervous look in his eyes from earlier has dimmed slightly, and in its place is a hunger that he didn’t have before. His clothes are a little bit tattered, and the blood dripping from his mouth is more convincing from closer up. Despite this, he still manages to look a little pathetic. The man has the aura of a wet dog.
“Man, you do not look well. Are you sick or something?”
“Well, actually, there is a type of vampiric sickness. It’s called Porphyria, and it can cause allergies to sunlight or-”
“Yes or no, Hasegawa.”
“No? Technically not? Unless you count being a vampire as being sick.”
Kamimura ignores him.
“Alright. Well. Something’s wrong with you. You look like you haven’t slept in years. Trust me, I’d know.”
Hasegawa mutters under his breath.
“It’s almost like I'm a vampire or something.”
Damn, this guy is dedicated to his bit. Kamimura would almost respect it, if it wasn’t so fucking nerdy.
However, there’s something about this guy that he can’t shake. He’s different from the kids who show up unannounced on Halloween, despite living in an apartment and not having any halloween decorations up. He almost feels serious, as if he’s actually a vampire.
In a very short space of time, Kamimura has a few very stupid thoughts.
Firstly, he’s a little into this guy.
Second, he’s a little into nerds.
Finally, this guy might actually be a fucking vampire.
He looks at Hasegawa again, who has been playing with his fingers while Kamimura thinks. Maybe he should have listened to his weird vampire lore drop earlier.
“Tell me more.”
Hasegawa startles slightly.
“H-huh?”
“About being a vampire. I want to know. Tell me why you’re here.”
His nervous smile disappears from his mouth, grinning properly. Kamimura can make out the faint blood staining on his teeth, and shit, if his look wasn’t convincing already, this would be a lot of work just for a cosplay.
He doesn’t miss the way Hasegawa’s eyes light up. Well, figuratively, that is. It’s almost as if a light has turned on in his mind, a prompt that says he needs to start talking as much as possible.
“Well, Vampires feed when they get hungry, right? That’s what I’m doing right now. We normally feed daily, you see. As to why I’m here specifically, this is a vulnerable area. Though, to be honest, I try to target everyone fairly.”
“Wow, what an inclusive vampire you are.”
Hasegawa dismisses him with a look.
“So yes, as I said earlier, I am here to suck your blood.”
Kamimura could almost laugh. It’s laughable to think that the nerdy kid on his doorstep from earlier was an actual vampire. He still has so many questions, and has no idea how to start.
“So like - What about you though?”
“Huh?”
“Aren’t vampires meant to like… you know. Be really cutthroat? Threatening? So why aren’t you?”
Hasegawa’s mouth drops open.
“What do you mean?! I’m threatening! I literally asked to suck your blood!”
“You’re a very polite vampire, at least.”
He’s very fun to mess with. Hasegawa sighs, looking down.
“I don’t really know. This is just my way of doing things. It feels rude not to ask.”
“Okay… but like… what if people say no?”
From Hasegawa’s stare, he figures that’s a stupid question.
“I guess I leave them alone? I find food somewhere else? That doesn’t happen very often though.”
Kamimura’s eyebrows raise.
“Really?”
“You’d be surprised.”
Kamimura smiles slightly.
“I suppose you are attractive. I bet some women would die for the chance to have an attractive man bite them.”
Hasegawa shrugs.
“Once again, you’d be surprised. It doesn’t matter anyways, as long as I feed.”
“Huh. I’m surprised you don’t take more pride in that. Is biting women not really your thing?”
“I- I mean, I’m not really into women like that anyways. I don’t take pride in it. It’s just something I have to do. If people are okay with me biting them, then I will.”
Kamimura is a little surprised at that. He’s not into women? Are vampires into people at all?
…Would it be weird of him to ask?
Fuck it, his day can’t get any weirder.
“...Are vampires into people at all?”
Hasegawa makes eye contact with him, startled, before glancing out of the window.
“Depends on who you ask. I am. Just -”
He inhales.
“Not girls. Does that make enough sense?”
Damn, Kamimura almost feels bad for him. He didn’t expect to have a gay vampire come out to him today, but honestly, nothing is a surprise to him anymore. Still, a small amount of hope swells up inside of him at the vampire’s confession. Sure, he might be a vampire, but he’s cute enough.
Fuck. He might be losing his mind. Hasegawa is back to staring at him nervously, and Kamimura realises that he never actually replied.
“Yeah, no. Definitely. Yeah.”
He pauses.
“For what it’s worth. I like men too.”
There’s something weirdly alluring about this man that makes Kamimura willing to share information with him. He doesn’t even know a lot about the man, but he knows that he can trust him. Strangely, it feels as if they’ve met before, and will meet again.
“Thanks, Kamimura. For sharing that with me.”
“...No problem.”
“And I think you’re attractive as well.”
He can barely make it out, as the other man mumbles it so quietly. His heart beats faster in his chest at his words.
Well, If Hasegawa wants to get his blood flowing, this is certainly a way to do it.
An awkward silence falls over the room. Kamimura isn’t sure how to respond to that. He isn’t exactly sure how to respond to anything.
He knows he isn’t long for the world. And hey, if he’s going to die soon, he might as well get to know Hasegawa while he’s waiting.
“You never answered my question.”
Kamimura looks up. Hasegawa’s eyes are burning holes into his sofa.
“No dude, you can’t suck my blood. Not because I’m weak or anything, I’d just rather have… my blood? Right now?”
“I never said you were weak! It’s fine if I can’t suck your blood! I don’t care that much!”
Ken hesitates, before continuing.
“Honestly though, I don’t need anything. If you want me to leave, I will. Easy as that.”
“Nah, that’s fine. Do you like… Need blood though? Like, will you die without it?”
Honestly, Kamimura doesn’t know why he cares about this random nerdy vampire guy. But for some reason, he does. He cares a lot.
“I mean, yeah, but I can get it from somewhere else. Like I said earlier, It's not hard for me.”
Kamimura thinks for a second.
…The day can’t get weirder than it already has. He’s planning on dying anyways, why shouldn’t he give his blood to a poor starving vampire boy? Hey, at least he’d be donating his body to a worthy cause! To be honest, the worst case scenario here leaves with him dying to the hands of a vampire, which sounds like a fucking awesome idea. Really, what could go wrong with this?
Having made up his mind, Kamimura sits up and pulls the neck of his hoodie down, darting his eyes away. When he hears no movement from Ken, he mumbles to him.
“Go on. Not too much.”
Ken hurriedly moves to sit closer to him, muttering thank you’s under his breath. Gently, as if handling a fragile object, he pulls Kamimura closer to him.
“You don’t have to be so delicate with me. You’re sucking my blood, dude. Do it properly.”
“Sorry, sorry. I won’t be as gentle.”
He moves Kamimura’s hood to the side, and bites into the side of his neck.
Immediately, Kamimura’s entire neck hurts. The feeling of losing blood stings more and more by the second, he feels weak, he feels drained. He gasps, his body going slightly limp. The mixture of pain, enjoyment, thrill, and absurdity of his situation blends through his body until his head is reeling. He can only focus on the sensation of Hasegawa’s lips around his neck, suffocating him, until it’s the only thing that he can properly focus on.
He feels Hasegawa pull away, and slumps across the sofa. Glancing at him, he can see Ken wipe his blood from his mouth, smiling contentedly. He doesn’t think he’ll be able to delete that memory from his brain until the day he dies. Thoughts are spinning in his head, he has no idea how to process what has happened to him. At least it’s proof enough that he is a vampire? What the fuck just happened to him? Why did he let a vampire do that to him? Better question, why the fuck did he enjoy it?
Ken smiles at him from across the sofa.
“Thank you, Kazutoshi. That should… actually be enough to sustain me for a while now!”
“You didn’t take too much, right?”
“Of course not. I took enough to keep myself going, that’s about it.”
Oh. He doesn’t know why the bite is affecting him so much. He has a strange feeling that he’s more flustered from his experience than he is upset about the bite in the first place.
“A-alright. Well. Now what?”
Ken looks at him.
“What do you mean? I’m going.”
“Wait.”
Kazutoshi doesn’t know what compels him, but he finds himself reaching out to stop Ken from leaving.
“Do you have to go? Can you stay the night?”
Something within him makes him want to watch over Ken, keep him safe, make sure he doesn’t disappear in the middle of the night. In the past few hours, he’s grown unreasonably attached to Hasegawa. There can’t be a lot of blood rushing to his brain right now, or he wouldn’t be thinking so irrationally.
Ken’s eyes widen, but he nods quickly.
“Of course, that would be great.”
—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As they get ready for bed (well, as well as a vampire and human can), another question appears in Kazutoshi’s mind.
“So… Can you fly, or what?”
“No, that’s mostly just a myth.”
“FUCK!”
