Someday I know (you'll come to your senses and leave me alone)

Summary:

Bobby's first child died at birth. At least Bobby had thought he did. Turns out, someone took him. Buck is blindsided with news when his parents come to support Maddie. He was adopted. He failed his purpose. His parents regretted taking him from that hospital in St. Paul.

Chapter Text

June 27, 1991

Bobby ran through the glass doors, stopping at the desk with hope in his eyes.

"Hi. I'm looking for a patient, she should be in labor? Her name's Emily Brooklyn Williams. She's having my son." He smiled.

"Williams? One second..." She said, flipping and tracing down pages with her candy-apple red nails. She looked up suddenly, grief in her eyes.

"No no no. Is she- is she dead?" He asked, his voice fading to a whisper.

"I'm sorry sir. Your girlfriend died in childbirth."

"The- The baby? What about the baby?" He said, knowing what she was going to say next, but not able to believe it.

"I'm sorry." She continued to say more, but Bobby couldn't hear anything past his sobs and quick breaths.

"Well congratulations! You have a perfectly healthy baby boy! And where's your big brother?" The nurse said, gently poking Robert Jr in the stomach.

"Big brother?" Bobby and Marcy asked, looking at each other.

"Yeah, Evan? He's listed in our systems as your son. I remember him, we had lost his mother, but he wasn't really crying. He had those adorable little birthmarks too."

"They told me he died. Are you saying he's alive?"

"I've been thinking." Marcy said, hesitant.

"About what?"

"Your son. Evan. Don't you want to know what happened to him Bobby?"

"His twentieth birthday would have been three days ago. He should be here, with his father, but I don't even know if he's alive."

"Do you wanna find out?"

It was all his fault. He caused the fire. He was the reason they were in such a bad apartment with no fire safety. They had spent so much money on lawyers, suing the hospital, everyone who had taken his son away from him. Then his accident, and doctors and pills, and they couldn't afford to move somewhere safer.

A nervous young man walked up the stairs to meet his new captain. He had his hair gelled up and his birthmarks just like the ones that were described on his son were on his right side just like his son.
