The night was unusually dark.
It was a new moon, the stars hidden behind clouds. Far away from any settlement. The darkness was chased away as Ace stepped up to the cliffs edge.
Even such an oppressivly dark night couldn't dampen his light. He may not be the god of the sun like his brother but the god of fire wouldn't be snuffed out so easily.
It was windy and if he could feel cold Ace knew that's certainly what he would be feeling. The glow of his otherwordly skin and the fire spirits that perpetually danced around him were the only sources of light in the night.
The sound of crashing sea waves was loud and Ace took a second to smell the salty breeze. It was calming and a scent he was particularly fond of. His brother would always have the smell of the salty seas on him after coming back from his adventures in the mortal realm, sailing being his favourite mode of transport, and there was another that the scent always lingered around. The very one he was there to see.
Like a spell had just been cast, the sound of the waves suddenly dampened into an eerie silence and the wind stopped its howling just as abruptly. Ace couldn't help but crack a smile as the world seemed to hold its breath for a moment.
Fog suddenly ascending up the sea cliff and swirled around Ace, never coming close enough to brush him but still being illuminated by his glow. The fog suddenly thickened for a moment, so thick not even Ace's light could get through before a figure seemed to materialise on the very edge of the cliff.
Ace's smile turned to a full grin as the figure fully materialised and stepped away from the cliff, towards him.
"Oh, I love how dramatic this is" He swept his hands out to try and catch the vapor like water spirits disguising themselves as fog. They shy away from his touch and the fog dispersed as suddenly as it arrived.
Law rolled his eyes at him.
"You're one to talk. Did you have to pick the darkest night of the year?" Law asked as he stepped even closer.
The god of water was a sight to behold like always. Swathed in robes of blue and gold, bronze skin and pale white markings that could be mistaken for tattoos glowing softly in the night. His hair initially appeared a deep black in the darkness but as he came closer to Ace's light it seemed to ripple and reflect it like the waves themselves. His golden eyes caught on Ace's copper ones and Ace felt the air around him heating without his permission
"Well..." Ace tried to regained some composure. He always felt like a flustered fool in the presence of the other god and it would do no good for him to catch the grass under their feet on fire by accident.
"You know how jealous I can be. I don't want any other light taking your attention away from me" Which was true in some small part. Ace did feel himself getting irrationally irritated whenever he noticed Law's reflective hair and skin shine back a light that wasn't his. The fire spirits had already scattered away the moment Law had appeared, used to Ace's jealous streak.
He leaned towards the god of water and Law huffed a fond laugh as he rolled his eyes. Ace's grin widened and he couldn't keep the licks of fire coming off his skin at bay.
"Silly firefly" Suddenly Law's hands were cupping Ace's face, his touch gentle and light in a way most thought the viscous water god incapable.
The juxtaposition of Law's cool hands and Ace's own rising temperature was dizzying.
"How could I ever look away?" Then Law's lips met his own and it took every ounce of control not to burst into flames right then and there. Law hadn't appreciated the impromptu wildfire last time, his robes not being spared, though Ace preferred him without them.
Even though Ace didn't need to breathe, he still took in greedy gulps of air after the kiss ended. His inner fire seemingly couldn't catch its breath and there was steam rising between the two gods, though that was prone to happen.
"So, did you invite me here just to proclaim your jealousy and stare at me like a lovesick dope or do you have something planned for us?" Law's words snapped him out of his daze and he nodded so hard and fast he felt like his head would come right off his shoulders.
"Ye-yeah!" Ace coughed, trying to hide the crack in his voice "come on! Let's go!"
