Summary
The machine wailed higher, louder, reaching a crescendo with its last breath. She didn’t think. Every fibre in her body screamed as she lunged, putting herself almost over him, shielding his body with her own. Her ribs screamed. Her breath tore out of her throat.
Then, she saw white.
