Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Ordinary Café Studies

Chapter Text

In the Andromeda galaxy, millions of light years away, lies the planet Odrin. In a a retro-futuristic urban city, the sun is setting. The entire place is full of neon light and chrome decorations. A population full of life people. They weren't just ordinary people. They're Novan species, gender neutral beings. Some look masculine, and others look feminine. It is whichever pronouns they can use. (He/She/They) They may look human, but they have different traits. They have their own language, Novanese. In this case, we'll have their voices translated. They either speak with their minds or speak orally. They have an odd sense of fashion. Strange mammals called Zorons, that are treated as friends or pets. Flying auto mobiles, and luminescent plants that are used for lighting.

At a retro futuristic café, where pastries and drinks are served. Inside, there is a Novan with bright orange hair, wearing a blue tuxedo, having a drink, sitting at a stool in front of the window view of the streets, writing down notes on a notebook. It's filled with theories and sketches of other planets and life species outside the universe. It's the Novan's, job to write these hypothesis. He works at a laboratory with these Novan "scientists". The only discovery that the scientists here have found, is the Milky Way. Everyone knows about it. It's been known for a while. They used a machine that sends signals and photographs to the lab. While searching for YEARS, the team are hoping to find any kind of evidence that there may be life located in the galaxy.

The ginger Novan felt his blazer pocket shift, distracting their contemplation. A tiny furry pink mammal peeks its head out, a Zoron. It has a white kabuki mask like face. The ginger chuckled looking at the miniature creature.

"Did you have a nice cozy slumber in there?" the Novan spoke. The pink Zoron climbed its way up to their shoulder and whispered to their ear. "Alright, but we'll share okay? You know you won't finish it with that small stomach you have at the moment."

The Novan got off the stool and walked up to where the odd looking pastries are displayed behind the glass, kneeling down to take a good look up close. The Zoron pointed its white finger at the navy blue colored doughnut shaped pastry that has a shimmery glitter effect all over, with small blue quartz shaped sweets.

"What will it be, Zero?" A female voice was heard calling out the ginger Novan's name. It's one of the workers who has been familiar with this customer visiting to the café often. She has very long pink lashes, with dramatic colorful glittery eyeshadow, and a pink bushy afro hair.

"I'll have the cosmic ring." Zero stands back up with a warming smile, the little pink furry friend sitting on his shoulder politely.

The worker grinned and grabbed the tongs to take out the pastry, placing it onto a plate. "You don't usually order deserts, why's that?"

"Oh, you know." Zero faced at the little furry, waving at the worker, with a blushing smile.

"For the little one! Then it's on the house." She pushes the plate to Zero. The doughnut glistens and shines.

"Really? How generous of you Elara. Very much appreciate it."

"By the way, how's the research?" Elara rests her head on her hand with open ears.

"We're still keeping the theories. I've been having my ideas written down."

"Do you believe there ever might be?"

"Who knows. Although, the only way to find out..." Zero paused in the middle of his sentence for a moment, then glanced back up at the employee Novan. "What if...anyone takes the courage to explore out there?"

Elara's thin lined eyebrows raised, shocking at the thought coming from their daily customer. "Woah, no one has ever left the galaxy."

"What other way can there be? At least that's my idea. I haven't told any of them yet."

"Can you imagine how risky it is? Getting lost, something dangerous happens, and not being able to make it back?"

"That's why I didn't say anything."

"Yeah, because it's crazy! It'll make everyone freak out and spread rumors."

"Right, I'll take your word for it."

Lola was already getting impatient and tugs Zero's hair strands.

"Ow! Okay, okay. Well, time to go back to finish my studies." Zero nervously laughs and takes the plate back to his seat where their notebook and drink is still placed.

Elara shooks her head with a chuckle.

"Yes, I know. Sorry for keeping you waiting." Zero placed the plate down next to his notebook and the little mammal jumps onto the table, holding the ring shaped pastry and takes a huge bite out of it.

Zero giggled, "Slow down, Lola. Save some for me." He pokes the pink critters head with the pen he's using and returns back to their writing.

-

It got dark outside. The café is empty, except Zero was the only one, along with Elara cleaning up the area. He shuts their notebook and takes a big stretch. Lola is laying flat on the table, feeling full after eating half the doughnut. Zero finished the rest of the desert. The crystals crunching in his mouth like sprinkles. The glitter gives a sweet delightful taste. He leaves the empty cup onto the plate, gently picking up Lola sleeping back into his uniform pocket, and got off the stool, grabbing his notebook.

"Thanks again for the treat, Elara." Zero slightly bows with respect.

"Don't mention it. I'll take the plates from you, don't worry about it. Good luck on the Milky Way research, Mr.Way." she teased saying Zero's last name.

Zero rolled his eyes jokingly. "See you again!" He exits through the café doors. Flying mobiles passing by the roads and Novan's walking down the sidewalks chattering. The plants illuminating the streets. The sky is filled with millions of stars.

Zero strolled his way down the streets, to his home. Where he shares a house with his younger brother, Mikey. Just the two of them.
