Chapter Text
Jophiel is not a person who asks for much. She’ll ask for a meet up with her friends, ask for food, or something small that wouldn’t count as ‘asking’ someone.
Jophiel is not a person who asks for much.
But, for once, she asks for some Deity, God, Angel, Spirit, anything, anything, just to let her hold on for a little bit more.
Eyes settling on her friend fumbling at her seatbelt, she feels her lips wobble at the sight they probably make. Bloody, pitiful, scarred students.
“Jophi…! Jophiel..!” Jophiel heard distantly, the sound distracting her enough from the stinging and pain crawling through her body.
“Sera..” She gurgles, the taste of copper evident in her taste buds.
Her friend finally managed to get out of her seat, seatbelt separating with a dull click of plastic and metal.
Hands cradle her face, trembling fingers wiping off the tears and blood dripping down to her chin.
When had she started crying?
“Hang on for a while more, Joph, please, okay? Just a little more.” Seraphim muttered feverishly, phone dialing a number at a hastened speed.
There’s a conversation she can distantly hear in the background, but her eyes have focused on the stunningly white figure outside the car.
Jophiel would frown if she wasn’t pretty sure that the figure outside would be the one to take her to the afterlife.
Almost sighing, she slumps down and accepts her fate.
“Oh.. You’re too early, aren’t you?”
A voice that sounds too ethereal and not too real at once vibrates in her ears, and she twitches when the figure comes closer, and walks through the car shield.
They hum for a bit, before gently closing her eyes with two fingers.
“Do not fret, human. It is not your time yet..”
They say after a few seconds, and Jophiel swears she could’ve heard another sentence out of their mouth, but she was already coming to the sweet embrace of unconsciousness.
“...Fu… Ish is ..ing to ki.. m…”
Jophiel sleeps.
Finally seeing the blonde human’s eyes close was practically a blessing.
Saps sighs in relief, wings twitching in response, and he lets his gaze settle on to the other human, now practically screaming at the device this generation now had.
The multi-colored eyed human had tears coming out of their eyes, and Saps wonders how he could help this one, now.
Grumbling under his breath, Saps places two fingers on the raven-haired human’s forehead, letting a bit of energy flow through his fingertips.
The human had calmed down somewhat, and instead of yelling and screaming, they were instead sobbing quietly over the blonde’s body.
Fighting back another sigh, Saps accepts the situation as it is, and leaves as silently as he can. He ignored the way the blonde’s eyes had followed him for a second, before ultimately falling asleep.
Not his problem, nope.
.
.
Ish had chastised him. Wings wilting under the God’s words, Saps puffs out his mouth in a pout.
Spyder was snickering faintly behind him, and Saps would’ve probably already decked the cupid’s head if it weren’t for the deadpan stare he felt when he even thought about it.
“Saps, heed to my words,” Ish says, fingers rubbing his temple at the other.
“..I’m listening.” He muttered back, his arms crossed like a petulant child.
He could feel his God’s sigh, murmuring indescribable words under his breath, before he huffs out air out of his nose.
“You have to think to stop wasting your energy on humans, Sap. Lady Death is already nagging at me, and at this point, she’ll sic her Angel on me.”
Saps feels tingles run up his spine, and he shakes his shoulder at the thought of the Angel of Death coming at them.
He barely dodged being a ward of the Angel, he doesn’t think he could handle another.
“Ugh. I know, but I just can’t help it!”
Ish’s eyebrow twitches in frustration, and he pushes down the urge to drop the Angel on Lady Death’s doorstep. The one in the human realm.
“Saps, I know you have the urge to help the humans, but Lady Death will take them when it’s time, giving them energy when they are going to live anyway is pointless.”
Saps crosses his arms but ultimately sags down in defeat, knowing that his God's words were right.
“I know that…”
Ish smiles faintly at him, and the God flicks the middle of Saps forehead, making him grumble.
“Thank you, Saps. Maybe find other ways to help the humans, alright?”
“..Alright.”
When she opened her eyes, all Jophiel could see was a blank, dull ceiling.
Blinking at the ceiling, Jophiel twists her head to look at her surroundings.
In her vision were a few machines, some furniture typical of a hospital, and a person.
Her eyes focus on the figure she saw.. at the time of the crash, white hair shaping their face like a statue, robes of similar color loosely hanging on their body.
The person— entity?— catches her eyes, and they turn their head to look at her.
Silence engulfs the room for a couple of seconds, before Jophiel hesitantly spoke up.
“Hello, would you mind telling me why you’re in this room..?”
She was pretty sure there was surprise littering the other's face, but as soon as it appeared, it was gone.
“..Ah.. You can view me..?”
Their voice reverberated, echoes filling the room like they were in an underwater cave.
Jophiel nodded at the white figure’s question, confusion flooding her mind.
What do they mean by that?
“Hmm.. Well.. that’s not great..”
Her confusion quickly turned into concern, and she voices out the question in her head.
“Why would that be?”
Something like a grimace fluttered across their face, before they sigh petulantly and crossed their arms.
“Tell me, what do you notice about my physique?”
Jophiel frowns at the question, and she looks, really looks at the figure. Their body was slightly translucent, as if they were not truly there. Coupled with that was their face, which was.. blurry, actually.
“You.. are transparent, and your face holds no concrete view.” She said, wondering when her words started going much more complicated.
Relief, and confusion, appears in the blurry smile of the figure, and they cross their arms in their spot.
“Okay, okay. I have just one request.”
“I have my ears open.”
“Do not speak of me to anyone.”
..?
Tilting her head, Jophiel looks at the other quizzically, blinks occurring on her face to showcase confusion. But, since it was a request,— even though one she doesn’t understand—she’ll gladly follow it at the expense of not being a mythical being, maybe.
She knows there are people who want to be, but she is not, and does not want to be one of them.
Jophiel nods her head, “I agree to your request. But I have a small one in return..”
Head tilted almost unnaturally, the figure does a ‘go-on’ sign with their hand.
“How is Sera?”
“Sera?”
“..The other person in the accident with me.”
“Ah, that raven-haired one. They are doing quite well, do not worry.”
Jophiel lets relief flood through her lungs, and she just realized how much she needed that confirmation.
“..Thank you.”
The figure blinks for a couple of times, before stuttering a response.
“..I.. You are welcome.”
