Work Text:
Spencer bit down on his lip, tears burning his eyes. He looked tiredly at the group coming closer. Everything hurt, and humiliation burned deep through his body. He looked at the body, his mind screaming that it was over, but a part of him knew that it was never so easy.
“Spencer.” Hotch gently helped him up. The younger just looked at him blankly. He wanted to say something, but the words were stuck in his throat.
“Are you alright?” Hotch’s voice was strong yet soft at the same time; his grip was firm as he steadied Spencer. Still, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He wanted to nod yes that he was fine; he was always fine, even when he felt he was in hell.
Still, the only sound was the wind rustling around them, along with the police speaking in the background.
Hotch frowned slightly when he realised that the kid wasn’t going to answer, worried he tightened his grip slightly. “Let’s get you out of here.” His voice softened even more as he took on more of Spencer’s weight.
A whimper slipped through Spencer’s lips, the pain like a needle through his body. He pressed his lips together. Just trying to breathe through the pain.
He flinched back slightly when the flashing lights hit his eyes, spots dancing in front of his eyes. All he wanted was to get into bed and sleep. To make as if this never happened. He didn’t want this.
“I am going to pick you up, alright?” The words were barely out of his mouth, and all Spencer managed to do was shake his head, shivering slightly. Hands tightened against Hotch as he gave him a begging look.
“Alright. Just a little bit more, the car isn’t far.” Hotch gave him a reassuring smile. Together, they slowly trek to the car. Spencer is trying his best to handle the pain that shoots through his body with each step.
When they finally made it to the car, he immediately slumped against it. He could see the worried eyes of his teammates on him. Still, he couldn’t do anything to try to reassure them. He flinched violently when a hand settled on his shoulder.
The only thing keeping him standing was Hoch, who still had a tight grip on him. “Let's get you in the car.” Derek’s voice was warm, and he had an easy smile as he opened the door. Still, the worry was clear as they helped him in.
When they finally got him settled, all he could do was just close his eyes as the shivers still racked his body, the drugs in his system running out.
Derek and Hoch gave each other a look, knowing that they needed to get him to a hospital; they had all seen what Hankel had done to him. The fact that he was injected with Dilaudid. But they also knew that he hated to be in a hospital.
Tired eyes opened when the car started. Spencer tried to open his mouth to ask what now, but the words didn’t come out.
Derek, seeing him, just gave him a reassuring smile. “Try and get some rest, we are pretty much in the middle of nowhere.”
With one last tired look, Spencer closed his eyes again, slumping against the window. Almost immediately, sleep claimed him.
When he woke up again, Spencer couldn’t help but freeze; the last place he wanted to be was in a hospital. Panic clung to him as he smelted the antiseptic in the air, an IV in his arm. Immediately, he pulled it out, ignoring the blood dripping down his arm. Everything in him screamed that he needed to get away.
Forcing himself upright onto unsteady feet. Closing his eyes as pain radiated through his body. Home, he just wanted to go home.
“Kid.” Morgan’s voice was filled with concern when he walked into the room. Rushing to put the coffee down. “Come sit back down for me, please.” He was gentle as his hands closed around Spencer’s shoulder, gently pushing him to the bed.
Spender couldn’t stop the tears that finally started to fall. The stress from the last few days finally broke over him. The pain from the abuse, the stupid drugs he didn’t want. Everything was simply too much.
Derek gave him an unsure look before he pulled the younger against his chest. Just holding for the time. He wanted to ask him not to cry, but at the same time, he knew it would be good for Spencer to just let everything out.
When the tears finally cleared up, he leaned back slightly, forcing Spencer to look at him. “You are strong, you will get through this. We will be with you every step of the way.” He gently wiped away the tears. “You will be alright.”
Spencer couldn’t bring himself to say anything, so he simply leaned forward, closing his eyes as he soaked in the comfort.
