Chapter Text
It had been two years since the humans had left the circus. Once Caine had figured how to help Kinger become more lucid in the lights the two of them went to work to see if the abstractions could be fixed. Unfortunately they were not able as many as they wanted, only able to save Queenie, and Kauffmo. As well as eleven other people that were complete strangers to them. The others were lost, their bodies back to normal, but not waking up. It scared Caine when they were not waking up.
The drive to leave the circus was ignited once more as Caine, Kinger, and Queenie got to work to make an exit. While others worked to keep an enraged Jax away from Caine. It was a one way exit, while Caine did not want to be alone, he also did not want his newly found family and friends to continue to be trapped in a place that had kept them prisoner. The last ones that left was Kinger, Queenie, and surprisingly Pomni. Once those three left, Caine’s eyes closed with no one left in the circus his program deemed his presence in the tent unnecessary.
When Caine regained consciousness he still only saw darkness, but he could feel that he was laying down in a metal table. He felt different, though couldn’t pinpoint why he felt different. He heard odd beeps and clicks around him, sounds that did not belong in his circus home. Then heard the sounds of someone approaching. Pain flared through his arm as more sounds filled the air, once that pain subsided he heard voices.
“Remarkable. This AI is so advanced it could be mistaken as a human. No wonder he quickly agreed to this experiment.” A woman’s voice said in aw
“Precisely. After all we do not fully know what they were trying to do when making the AI. While he was put inside of that game to be in charge of it. He had to have some level of adaptability. To think that he was abandoned inside that game for all these years.” A young males voice spoke.
An older male voice muttered words that Caine could not hear.
“Then we will be set back months.” The first male voice replied as the sound of keys on a keyboard clacked. “He agreed to work with us as long as he got this AI for this project. He already fulfilled part of his parts in the agreement, and we were the ones to offered to do one better than what he was doing originally.”
Soon the darkness he saw was replaced a blinding bright light. He heard the foot steps of the people leave the room he was in. Trying hard he attempted to move but was unable to. Fear was starting to bloom inside of him. He started to ask himself questions he did. He did not the answer to.
‘Why am I here? Where am I? Who were those people? Who requested that they get me out of the circus? What was going on? What is going to happen to me?’
The door opened again and the same voices returned, then something was pulled off of him, and felt another sharp pain in his arm that quickly faded. The work was short lived as he heard the click of the computer again and he felt himself twitch.
“Looks like things are in order. Hopefully when we wakes him up tomorrow, we can do a more through examination.”
Caine heard the door open again and two walked out as he heard the third walk to the side and start typing on a keyboard. Slowly he felt is fingers move, he focused on moving his hands then arms. He then started to move his legs. Sitting up he saw that he was hooked up to different machines and something was on his face.
Slowly he took off the thing on his face and placed it on the table. He started to unhook the tubes that were in his arms. Forcing himself to get off of the table. Landing in the floor on his hands and knees, finding out that he couldn’t fly, he looked around his surroundings.
He found himself in a lab in the real world. While he was stunned, he knew he had to find away out, and hopefully find one of the former circus members.
Struggling on his feet he stumbled as he made his way to the door, once it was opened his ran as fast as he was able to. While unsteady and falling to the ground constantly he kept moving looking for an exit.
‘Is this how they felt when they were trapped in the circus?’ Caine asked himself guilt building up as he felt bad for them as he remembered Pomni’s reaction in the first few days in the circus.
Holding a wall Caine steadied himself as he peeked around a corner seeing no one he ran. Only to trip over his own feet falling sideways down the stairs. Hitting a set as he fell only to be stopped hitting something soft.
Looking around he found himself half way down the stairs, on a landing in front of a wall and another set of stairs, to the left. Arms wrapped around him in a protective and secure hold. Fallowing the arms he looked into the brown eyes of a kind, worried looking man. The man looked to be in his late forties, his brown hair having streaks of grey. Caine struggled in his grip as he tried to get out so he could escape this building.
“Woah, woah. Caine, it’s okay. It’s okay. You’re safe. You’re safe now.” The man said with a familiar voice. “It’s me. Kinger.”
Caine’s eyes widened as he froze. Was this how Kinger really look like? Caine made an attempt to speak only to for air to pass his lips, as he started to cough harshly. He looked up at him in confusion.
Sighing Kinger stood up with Caine still in his arms. “I’ll take you back to the lab. We will finish making sure the procedure worked and you healthy, and then we can talk.”
Caine could only nod as he held tightly onto Kinger. The two silently made their way back to the room Caine had just escaped from. Once they had entered the two saw why the alarms had not been sounded during Caine’s attempt to escape. No one was in the lab, as well as all the monitors that were ment to monitor Caine’s vitals were not hooked up to any alarms.
Sitting Caine on the table Kinger patting Caine’s shoulder in an attempt to comfort him. The former ring leader leaned into the contact. Feeling strangely cold now that he was no longer in Kinger’s warm arms. Looking down he realized that we was wearing a hospital gown that came down to only his knees, and barely covered his arms. The hospital gown felt weird considering he was so used to wearing his ring master attire.
In aw he stared at his new body. He shivered as he looked around the room rubbing his arms with his hands. Wondering why he was so cold, while Kinger was warm.
Kinger, seeing this wrapped his arms around Caine. Rubbing his shoulders as well in an attempt to help warm him up, as he looked around for something to cover Caine in. Caine leaned into Kinger’s hold, soaking up the warmth he provided.
The door opened again as the two entered surprised to see Kinger.
“Oh, Dr. Davidson . We were not expecting you till tomorrow.” She said in shock. “I see he is also early.” She added with a warm tone.
Kinger laughed “We got done on our end early than anticipated. So we thought that I could show up early and see if any help was needed in getting Caine adjusted to the outside world.” He felt Caine’s grip tightened on him as well as looking up at him with curiosity.
“Davidson, is my last name, Caine.”
Caine nodded as he felt Kinger lay him back down on the table. Grabbing onto Kinger’s arm quickly he tried to get back up, in a panic.
“Relax. You are safe. Remember?” He said softly “I’ll be right over there. We need to make sure the operation went right. That everything is connected right. Then we will get you into proper clothes to get you out of here. And back home.”
Caine felt a smile on his face. As he nodded. Looking to the side Caine felt his blood freeze. On the table were medical tools he did not recognize.
The older male entered again pushing a large cart into the room that was covered with a sheet. Pulling it off the man picked up some stuff off of it
“Open your mouth!” The older man demanded.
Caine did what he was told, only to have the man grab his chin and something wooden getting pressed on his tongue a light flashing onto the back of his throat. Afterwards he got a nasty tasting spray to the back of his throat. Coughing as he attempted to get the taste out of his mouth.
“Okay. Now say something.” The older gentleman demanded coldly.
Nervously looking around the room. Caine locked eyes with Kinger. Air passed through his lips again, as he saw Kinger smile and wave his hand and smiled at him in encouragement.
“Kki..kii..nng..er.” He forced out. “Kin-Kinger.” His voice was hoarse, sounding painful as he talked.
Caine reached out for said person as he kept repeating his name from the circus over and over. Kinger walked forward grabbing his hand tightly. As he softly shushed him as gently pushed Caine back down onto the table.
“It’s okay, Caine. Here, drink this. It will help soothe your throat better.” Kinger handed him a thermos full of a warm liquid that tasted like mint. “There’s more tests that need to be done before we can get ready to leave.” He comforted
“O..Ka-ay.” Caine replied “Wa-What else is t-there.”
“We need to do a connection test to make sure everything is connected right.” The scientist at the computer said “after all you were originally an AI and now your human. Got to make sure we did the transition right.”
Caine nodded from where he laid on the table still holding onto Kinger’s hand. He watched as one scientist walked over to Kinger and whisper into his ear, and pulled him away.
“Wa-what?” Caine asked as Kinger pulled his hand away from his. “N-no”
Caine reached out for Kinger only for the older male scientist to grab his arm and put it on the table.
“Now, we are going to test your reflexes. Tell us if and when you feel something.” The older male said
With out any warning he took a needle from the tray and shoved it against Caine’s foot. Caine’s reaction was immediate as he yelled out it pain, yanking his foot back as he scrambled to get away almost falling off the table.
“Careful!” Kinger demanded as he moved forward grabbing Caine and pulled the him up to a sitting position as he held him in a protective hold.
Caine wrapped his arms around Kinger curling around him as he stared at the one holding the needle that had previously been jammed into his now bleeding foot.
“Well. Now we know he can feel with that foot.” The young male sighed as he shook his head. “I apologize, Dr. Davidson. That was too rough. Do you want to continue today? Or wait till tomorrow to finish?”
Dr. Davidson nodded “Caine?” He asked as the former AI gasped for air as tears pricked his eyes.
“Ye-yeah?”
“Are you alright to continue?”
Caine nodded but refused to let go of Kinger. Laying his head on Kinger’s shoulder.
“Caine? Is it?” The male asked as the female scientist took over the spot that the older male stood. She was pulling a device on a tray.
Caine nodded slowly still leaning against Kinger.
“My name is Theo Adams. Over there, the one with long blonde hair is Dr. Jones. You see that device Dr. Jones has?”
Caine nodded
“Well we are going to use it to check your new nerves that runs through you. Making sure all parts are properly connected and then we are going to see how well you can feel stuff. That way you can tell us if something is wrong. Are you ready?” Theo talked to him like he was talking to a child.
Caine nodded again, slowly letting go of Kinger. While he was still sitting up he watched as Dr. Jones turned in the machine and took the rod pressing it gently against his left foot.
“Is… is it….. supposed…. to… tingling?” Caine asked as his foot twitched slightly
Nodding in reply Dr. Jones moved the rod to his right foot. Looking at him for a reaction.
“It… still tingles.” He said almost sounded embarrassed.
She moved to his left hand and then his right hand. Testing each finger and toe. Testing points on his back and stomach. With Caine given the same feed back each time. Watching as they rolled the device away Theo helped him off the table.
“Alright.” Dr. Adams. “You already seem adjusted to your arms. And you made it a great deal away from the room alone, though you were leaning on stuff. Let’s see how well you do without the added assistance. Can you walk to Dr. Davidson without help?”
Caine looked from Theo to Kinger. Nodding Caine took a shaky step forward. Slowly making his way to Kinger. He never walked in the circus. Mainly flying wherever he went. Now since he was in the real world, flying was not an option anymore. Upon reaching Kinger, he fell forward and was greeted with Kinger’s arms wrapped around him in a tight embrace.
“Well done.” Kinger whispered to him.
Helping Caine stand straight he guided the former AI back to the table, helping him sit back on top of it. Patting his back as he sat there.
Dr. Adams picked up the tool that had been jammed into Caine’s foot earlier.
“Alright, we are going to try this again. I and going to push this into you foot. It has two sides one dull and the other sharp. One of the things I need you to tell me is if it it sharp or dull. The second is if it hurts. The way we created your new body it highly experimental, so any feed back we get is invaluable.” Theo explained “Ready?”
Caine grabbed Kinger’s arm and nodded slowly. Staring at Theo as he walked over to his feet. Picking up Caine’s left foot he pushed one of the tips of the tool into Caine’s heel.
“S-Sharp.” Caine replied with a slight hiss “hurt a bit. Not as much as before but it still hurts.”
Theo nodded “Alright. It is to be expected since this was the same foot and near the same location he jammed it into earlier. Good, keep it up.”
“Dull. Sharp. Sharp. Dull. Dull. Dull. Sharp.” Caine said after each time the tool was placed on his skin.
The test went on for an ten minutes before he was satisfied that nerves were actually working. Placing the tool back down he wrote something on the clipboard he was holding.
“Please sit up.” Dr. Jones asked
Picking up a device she held it out for Caine.
“You put your mouth on this end and blow into it. The ball on this side will rise.” She explained “When I tell you to blow into it and keep going till until you to stop, alright. Do not hold your breath or breathe into it too hard. Keep it steady.”
Caine nodded as he grabbed onto the item. Holding it up waiting for her to tell him. His eyes kept jumping from Kinger to Dr. Jones.
“Okay. Now blow.” She said
Caine took a breath and blew into the device.
“Stop.” She said after ten seconds.
She had grabbed the device back putting it back on the table writing something down picking up a similar device but with three balls instead of one.
“Same thing as before.” She waited till Caine held up the device. “Blow……………. stop.”
Placing the item back on the table and wrote something down again, she then grabbed the item around her neck. Placing the end that looked like ear plugs into her ears and the other side that was metallic on his chest. He jumped when the cold metal touched his skin.
She waited a bit as she looked at her watch before removing it from his chest. Writing something down again. She then placed it against his chest again on the other side.
“Take a breath.” She requested.
Caine took a breath and felt the stethoscope move again. He took another breath. When she was done she wrote it down on the clipboard.
“Alright. Everything is in working order. Though the ID and paperwork will not be ready for a few days.” Dr. Adams said
Kinger nodded “I had a feeling that would be the case. I have a hotel room near by. Am I allowed to take him with me?”
“Hmm.” Dr. Adams said “I would like to keep him for a few days for observation. That way we can keep an eye out for any complications. You are welcome to stay with him if you want.”
Caine nodded quickly looking at Kinger with a pleading look. Sighing Kinger pulled Caine into his arms.
“Of course I’ll stay with him. I just need to check out of the hotel and get my stuff.”
Caine smiled, leaning against Kinger as he relaxed. He didn’t know why, but he felt safer with when Kinger was around.
“Alright, I will lead you to the room, and then and get a folding bed for you then.”
Kinger nodded as he picked up Caine taking him out of the room and fallowed Dr.Jones out of the lab and into the hospital room Caine will use.
Placing Caine on the bed Kinger held his hand as the doctors moved and place the tubes back into Caine’s arms. A folding bed was brought into the room and opened up. Blankets were placed on the bed. They were then left alone, Kinger made his temporary bed and sat down on it.
“Kinger?”
“Hmm”
“Wha….why…..” Caine paused not knowing how to word his question. He had several to ask but was having trouble finding the right words.
“It is weird being shoved into a different world, placed into a different body, with different rules isn’t it?” Kinger asked with a chuckle.
Caine nodded grabbing at his shoulders.
“Well, you will have all the time you want to adjust. Like I said before leaving the circus. You are not going to be left on your own, and we will always come back for you.”
“What….about the company I came from?”
“C&A?” Kinger questioned
Caine nodded
“They are being sued and put on trial of all the despicable acts they did, as well as the disappearances and deaths of all those people. I can not discuss a lot of this with you Caine. As the company, once they heard that I was getting you out of the game, is trying to pin stuff on you as well.”
Caine swallowed “Like wa..what?”
“I have theories. But we are not going to get into that now. Let us handle that, they will not touch you.” Kinger said as he stood. “I’ll be leaving g soon to get my bags and to check out of my hotel.”
“Where’s Queenie?” Caine asked
“She is back home. Once we are done with all the paperwork and getting you ready for civilian life, you can see her. After all, you will be living with us.”
“Really?”
Kinger nodded, as he stood up getting ready to leave temporarily.
“Caine, I’ll be leaving now. I’ll be back in half an hour.”
Caine just sat there, staring at nothing.
Kinger closed the door again and approached him slowly. “Caine?” He asked. “Are….is…” he placed a hand on his shoulder.
Caine’s shoulders shook causing Kinger to sit next to him on the bed as his hand moved from Caine’s shoulder to his back, rubbing it as he softly shushed him. Caine threw himself at Kinger as he cried. Wrapping his arms around him as he buried his head into the older man’s shoulder.
“Oh, Caine.” Kinger sighed
“I’m scared.” Caine admitted his voice muffled by Kinger’s shoulder. “I have no control over anything. Is this how you all felt in circus?”
“Not entirely.” Kinger replied pulling him onto his lap then rocked Caine. “We humans never really had the level of control here that you did in the circus. While we do have choices and some control over situations it’s not complete control. But I can see how going from complete control over your environment to have little can be unsettling. I’m here Caine. I…. We will make sure you are heard. That you are safe.”
Caine continued to cry into Kinger’s shoulder “Th-thank you.”
Kinger tightened his hold on Caine “Think nothing of it.”
An hour later Kinger’s phone rang. Looking down at the now sleeping child he answered the phone.
“Hello, dear.” He greeted with a smile
“Hi, honey. How is he?” She asked
“Confused. Overwhelmed. Scared. He cried himself to sleep. It’s all so new to him. I’m happy we got him out, so he’s not alone, but….. did we do the right thing? Removing him from the circus. It’s only day one of him being completely out and….. I’m afraid it might be too much for him.”
“Honey, give it time. Like you said it has only been a day. I’m sure once he no longer has to have any tests done and he is actually able to live he will adjust.”
“I hope so.” Kinger said as he pulled Caine closer to him. “He has a lot to learn. About his new body and our world. He’s used to just snapping his fingers to get what he wants as well as the cartoon logic of the circus.”
“Do you regret pulling him from the game?” Queenie asked “I know you were not expecting to get him out this way. But do you regret going back and getting Caine out of the game and into the real world?”
“Never.” Kinger answered quickly tightening his grip on Caine, looking down at the child curled up next to him.
“Then we will make it work. Hopefully we can protect him from what they are trying to do. When are you two coming back home?”
“Two to three days depending on what else needs to be done.” Kinger replied “How is everything going there?”
“Oh, quite well.” Queenie said “The others have been helpful. We are preparing his room. It will be colorful. We have the maniacal bird operational finally. So the two girls are now making sure that Bubble is downloaded safely.”
“That’s good.” Kinger said “He’ll be happy to have someone he can talk to about all of this. Someone that he can relate to.
“Okay. Honey, does he know our real names yet?”
“No. Well he knows our last name. I was going to tell him when I explained things to him,” Kinger sighed “I’m worried about him. What if C&A get him? What if the courts don’t believe he was an unwilling participant in their schemes? Right now he’s nothing more than just a child.”
“Samual.” Queenie sighed with a warm tone “ Your spiraling again. Please, I get that you are worried about him. I am too.”
“He needs us, Prue.” Kinger said in a whisper.
A groan caught their attention and Samual smiled. Caine had woken back up.
“Hey, Caine, Queenie is on the phone. Do you want to talk to her?”
“Wha?” Caine asked as he sat up from leaning on Kinger. “Queenie?”
Kinger handed Caine the phone and guided his hand to his ear so he could talk to her.
“Hello?” Caine asked “Queenie?”
“Hello, Caine.” She replied warmly “How are you feeling?”
“Considering the circumstances, I’m…. scared. But also confused. Kinger said that I’ll be staying with the two of you. And…. You’ll both be helping me out.” The desperate hope in his voice broke her heart.
“Of course, sweetie, you tried you best to help us during our entrapment in the circus. So, we are going to do our best to help you.”
“What happens if we can’t? What happens if I…… What’s this world’s version of abstraction?”
“Don’t worry about that, Caine, nothing like that will happen.” Samual comforted. “Prue, and I will handle things.”
“Sweetie, Samual is right. Don’t focus on the negative. Right now just focus on adjusting to living on Earth. Remember you are safe now, we will handle everything else.”
“Prue? Samual?” Caine asked “Who are they?”
Laughter came from both over the phone and from Kinger.
“Oh, sweetie.” Queenie sighed “We’re sorry for laughing.”
“Prue, is Queenie’s real name, while Samual, is mine.” Kinger explained. “ When you meet the others you will find out their real names as well.”
“Samual?” Caine asked
“Yes?”
“Can….can I still call you Kinger?” He asked softly “please?”
“Sure, Caine, you can still call me Kinger. Though I still suggest you get used to calling me my my real name. Or at the very least remember what my real name is.”
“Alright. Thank you. Kinger.” Caine said “Prue?”
“Caine, you can still call me Queenie. Though like Samual said, you have to get used to our real names. People around here don’t know us and Kinger and Queenie. They know us as Samual and Prue Davidson.”
“Yes, I will try. Thank you, Queenie.”
“We will talk more tomorrow, dear, good bye.” Samual said
“Good bye, Queenie.”
“Good bye, you two.” Prue said as she hung up.
“Kinger, why am I so tired?”
“You are adjusting to your new body, Caine, your not used to being organic yet. Hopefully it won’t last long. Especially since we are going to put you on a sleep schedule.”
“Makes sense.” He said “So, what’s going to happen now?”
“Well, I will be heading to the hotel and getting my stuff. I’ll come back here and help you get adjusted as they handle the medical stuff. Then once they no longer need you and are satisfied that you are healthy we will head back home.”
“What’s going to happen to me?”
Samual looked at him in confusion “What do you mean?”
“I…I overheard.” Caine answered “What you said, about the company. What would happen to me if they get their hands on me? What if I get put back in the game? I do t want to be alone.”
“I’m not going to let that happen.”
“But, what if it happens? What if I am going to get blamed for what happened to all of you in the circus? You said I’m a child now. What will they do to me if I’m to be blamed?”
“Caine, you have people who will back you up. Pomni, Ragatha, Gangle, Zooble, and Kaufmo. Prue and I as well. We will handle it.”
“What about Jax?” Caine asked “He was not happy that we could not save Ribbit. He…..”
“You tried your best, Caine, you made yourself sick trying to help. The best you could do was free the bodies. It is not your fault only thirteen people regained consciousness.”
“Would you feel the same if Queenie was among those that did not wake back up?”
“I… don’t know. I was halfway to insanity before we figured a way to help. I think what cleared my mind completely was seeing her avatar laying there. We all tried to wake people up, Caine. I hope I would have reacted the same way I did regardless of my wife being here or not.”
“But….Jax…”
“Caine, listen. You are not to blame for what happened. Do not listen to Jax. He can stay mad for all I care. We all tried to save as many as we could. You even started to copy what we were doing. You personality help saved two lives.”
“What if it’s not enough.”
“We have the thirteen people we saved, as well as the five of us backing you up. Try not to worry about it. Rest up.” Samual untangled himself from Caine and tucked him into the bed. “I’ll be back, and then in the bed right next to you, if you need me.”
“Okay. Good night. Kinger.” He yawned.
“Good night.” Kinger hugged Caine.
He left the room and told one of the nurses where he was going and that he would be back. He left for the hotel to pick up his belongings and checked out. Heading back to the lab he entered Caine’s room and pushed the bag under the cot.
Kinger got into the bed next to the one Caine was in and fell asleep. Samual was alerted awake. By being shaken. Opening his eyes he turned to see the fearful tear filled face of Caine.
“Caine! What’s wrong?”
“I…I…I.” Caine stuttered
“Come here.” Samual said opening his arms.
Cain wasted no time in diving into the offered hold. Tears streaming down his face. Shaking as he pushed himself deeper into Kinger’s hold.
Sighing Kinger tightened his hold on Caine, he had a feeling this might happen. The damage Jax had done, when Ribbit was not able to be saved, was extensive. After they all had pried Jax off of Caine, the AI ringleader had stayed close to Kinger and Queenie. Even staying in the pillow fort over night along side of them. Laying in between them.
“You don’t have to talk about it if you done want to. But… was it about what happened with Jax?”
Caine nodded tears still pouring out of his eyes. As his breathing became raspy.
“Alright. Do you want to sleep here?””
Caine nodded again. He felt Kinger move him till he was under the covers as well. Holding him in a gentle embrace. As he rubbed Caine’s back in a circular motion.
“Thank you.” He whispered.
Samual nodded “Not a problem, Caine.”
The two fell back to sleep with Caine laying his head on Kinger’s chest. A small smile slowly formed on his face.
The next morning Kinger woke up with Caine still in his arms. Shaking him awake watching as Caine groaned as he tried to go back to sleep.
“Caine, we need to get up. There are more tests they need to run.”
“Noooo.” Caine whined as he tried to snuggle closer.
The door to the hospital room opened up revealing Dr. Jones. She looked to Caine’s bed only to find that it was empty. Glancing around the room she noticed Caine cuddled up in Samual’s arms.
“Oh, was there any complications last night?”
“No.” Samual said as he kept shaking Caine, knowing that the former ringleader would not want people to know about his nightmare.
He sat up, causing Caine to finally open his eyes. He pouted as Kinger sat him down on the bed he go up and stretched.
“Alright, so Dr. Theo is going to be here soon, he will go over with Caine what he will do today, and be his primary doctor. Since he’s the one who primarily made it. After all my experiences not in pediatric. I’m more of a neural surgeon, and respiratory.”
Caine zoned out for what she was saying. He knew that he should be paying attention since it had something to do with how his new body worked but he couldn’t. So many new things were jumping out at him and catching his attention. He turned when he felt a hand rest on his shoulder.
Samual had noticed that Caine was zonked out and had nodded along with what Dr. Jones was saying. He had also noticed that Caine had kept shivering. He hoped it was because of him adjusting to the air around him, and not a problem with placing an AI into an organic body.
Dr. Theo entered the room and saw Samual and Caine as well as Dr. Jones.
“Morning. Are we ready to begin.”
Caine shyly nodded as he scooted closer to Samual. He was nervous as to what this talk would entail. He knew that he and Samual were going to discuss a lot of things on the drive back to his house. Since he mostly spent his first night afraid and getting comforted or sleeping instead of talking about his situation.
“Alright. Well we are going to move to an exam room. Today the exams are going to be allergy testing and eye exams.”
“Eye exam?” Caine asked as he rubbed at his eyes yawning.
“An eye exam is a test for your eyes to see if you need correction on your vision. Like if you need glasses or contacts.” Kinger explained.
Caine nodded as he stood up to fallow them to the exam room. When he noticed that Samual was not fallowing he stopped.
“Kinger?”
“You don’t need me there for the eye exam. When start the allergy testing I’ll be by your side.” He replied
“Oh..Okay.” Caine fidgeted on his feet “I….I’ll see you later.”
“See you in a bit, Caine.”
Caine stayed where he stood shuffling from left to right as he twisted his fingers around each other.
Kinger sighed and walked over to him. “Alright, Caine, here’s the deal. You go with them and try to do this exam by yourself. If you need me let them know and they can come and get me.”
Caine nodded.
“I’ll still go to the exam room for the allergy tests.”
Caine nodded again. Wrapping his arms around Kinger. Samual patted Caine’s back in comfort and offered him a small smile. Caine smiled back and fallowed the two out of his hospital room.
Kinger watched them walk down the hall, to the eye exam room. He knew that he should have been in the room with Caine, as this was all still new to him. That this week was going to be a catch up with exams and healthcare, as to give him a paper trail.
Since the investigation into the company had missing people from a couple different areas and states, the federal government was getting involved. Caine was going to have to meet with these officials, in hopes that he could get official papers, as well as to give his side of things.
Samual got lost in his thoughts as he tried to plan for Caine’s future in reality. He didn’t realize how much time had passed till Dr. Adams had tapped his shoulder.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you. Caine is already in the exam room. I’ll lead you to the room, and then go and get the test.” Dr. Adams spoke.
Samual nodded as he stood up and fallowed Dr. Adams to the exam room. Opening the door to the room Aaron looked in to see Caine sitting on a table. Looking up at him Samual saw that Caine’s eyes lit up.
“Kinger!”
Samual chuckled as he walked over to him. Sitting down in the nearby chair. He watched as Caine looked around the room with excitement. He couldn’t blame him. The room looked like it was pulled out of the circus with all of its color, and child friendly décor. While the rest of the lab was full of dull colors.
The door opened up and Theo entered in.
“Alright, so now we do the allergy tests. So, here is how it will go. I am going to place this on your arms and back.” He explained as he went. “Then I will scratch the corresponding hole with the allergen. Once all of that is done I will leave for a while. When I come back we can see what you are allergic too and treat it.”
Caine nodded along watching as the doctor moved and went along with the test. He was laying on his stomach while Samual held his hand as Dr. Adams finished the test.
“I’ll be back in about fifteen minutes, to check in.” He said as he left.
Caine and Samual nodded as he left the room. The lights buzzed in the quiet room as Samual rubbed Caine’s hand with his thumb.
“Kinger?” Caine asked softly
Samual hummed in acknowledgment.
“My arm hurts.”
Samual looked at Caine. It had been fourteen minutes since the test started and on Caine’s left arm was a half a dime sized bump. He looked on his right arm and back to see if any other bumps have formed. Checking the time he made a mental note of how big the bump was.
Fifteen minutes later and he had migrated to sitting on Kinger’s lap. Tears falling from his eyes. The bump on his arm had grew from the penny size to the size of a quarter and started to turn purple. Kinger was waiting with the button that was handed to them in case of a serious reaction. He had hit it when he saw the bump grow and turn colors.
Five minutes later a doctor that they had not met. Who checked up on Caine’s allergy test and saw the bump.
“How long has it been that big, and purple?”
“It has been purple for five minutes. Nine minutes for it being as big as a quarter.”
Nodding his head he checked the chart to match the number to the one next to the bump. Giving him a shot he turned to Samual who was rubbing Caine’s back.
“That should help with the pain and the swelling. Dr. Adams should be back soon and give you the results.”
Samual nodded as the doctor left. Caine calmed down as the pain eased. Ten minutes later Dr. Adams entered into the room with a small file.
“Alright than. So we are almost done with the test to make up his medical file, watch him up on vaccinations, and make sure that the transfer was a success. Tomorrow he can go with you back home. As for the allergy test results, he is allergic to bee and wasp stings.”
“What! But bees are cool.” Caine pouted. “I can’t be around them then?”
“You can’t be stung by them. If they land on you you should be good.” Dr. Adam’s said. “He will need an epi-pen and we can get that to him tomorrow before you leave. You two may return to the room.”
Kinger nodded and stood up with Caine still in his arms and walked to to room placing Caine back on the bed. For the rest of the day Kinger explained to Caine all about how to live Earth and how to be a human. When the food came Kinger helped him with eating as he explained the difference between finger food and food you had to use utensils for.
The next morning the doctors and scientists did one final check up before saying he was in the clear to leave. Samual getting handed a small bag that held Caine’s medication. Once they all left, Kinger retrieved his bag from under the cot. He pulled some clothes out of his bag and helped Caine get into them. Discarding the gown in an nearby hamper.
Kinger held Caine’s hand as he lead him down the hall and the stairs Caine had fell down. Reaching the bottom of the staircase he was lead through the building, to the outside.
Caine turned his head to the ground closing his eyes as a blinding light erupted. Squinting his eyes in an attempt to see around him. Kinger pick him up and carry him to a vehicle near by. He opened the door and pulled something out.
“Here. Try these.” Kinger softly said
Caine felt something get placed onto his face. He slowly opened his eyes. While it was still bright out at least now he could see with out getting hit with a glare wherever he looked.
“Better?” Kinger asked
Caine nodded as he looked around where he sat. And watched as Kinger grabbed something next to him and strapped himself to the seat. Caine attempted to copy his action but could not get it to latch. Kinger grabbed the belt from Caine’s hands and clicked it into place.
“Ready to go home?” He asked “And see Prue.”
Caine nodded. He was excited to see Queenie
