Summary:

Kaeya is alone while Monstadt celebrates one of its many festivals. He's not expecting anyone to come around. He didn't tell anyone he would be here.

And yet someone shows up anyway. Specifically, Diluc shows up.

Notes:

This is the ragbros reconciliation everyone's rooting for

12/21/2025 edit note: Y’all, I uploaded this 2 months ago and it has 64 kudos. I wasn’t expecting that. I wrote this when I was like, young and genshin had just come out and I was obsessed with ragbros, so I wrote this in the span of an hour.

I uploaded it just because I wanted it out there since it was proud of it at the time, I don’t expect it to get any attention or likes.

Especially not 64, which is a LOT, even if other stories (not of mine) have more. So thank you all and I’m glad you like this random story I wrote years ago

1/21/2025: we’ve passed 1k hits.

Work Text:

Kaeya walked through the main room of the Knights of Favonius headquarters, his heeled boots clicking slightly on the polished floors. The building was empty because of the festival in the town of Monstadt. The festival that celebrated the rare occasion of two full moons in one month. Everyone had their different beliefs as to what it could mean, some said it was natural, others said it was the archons having a celebration because they were pleased with the people in the different cities.

Kaeya didn’t believe anything one way or another. He had shown up to the celebration for a while, but he had left after he had a few glasses of wine. He had to leave before he got drunk, he wouldn’t be able to be hungover tomorrow or have any lasting effects of the alcohol, as he knew that the rest of the knights would get drunk tonight.

Kaeya opened the back door of the Knights of Favonius headquarters and walked outside, out onto the balcony. The night air was cool, and there was a gentle breeze that blew his hair around. His vision hit against his leg as it was blown around.  He walked over to the edge of the balcony and leaned against the railing, crossing his arms on the top of the stone. He looked over at the horizon at the end of the ocean. He heard the talking and music from the town of Monstadt. He guessed that everyone was having fun while they talked with each other and joked. They would be hanging out with their friends and family members. Family members that Kaeya didn’t have. All he had was Diluc, and the red-haired man hated him.

Kaeya was considering going back to the festival just to have something to do when he heard the door to the balcony open. There were quiet steps approaching him.

Kaeya didn’t look to see who it was, it was most likely Jean or Lisa coming to drag him to the festival. The footsteps paused for a second before coming over to him and leaning on the railing next to him. Kaeya was surprised to see that it wasn’t Jean or Lisa though. It was Diluc, leaning on the railing, looking out at the horizon, his red hair blowing around in the wind. Diluc didn’t look at Kaeya, but just stayed quiet as he watched the horizon. After a minute or two he spoke though, “Why’re you up here instead of celebrating with everyone else?” Diluc asked, still not looking at Kaeya.

Kaeya smirked to himself. Straight to the point, just like he always was. “No one to be there with. And besides, I can’t drink too much wine if I want to be able to work tomorrow, and at a festival like that, well how would I be able to resist?”

Dilluc didn’t answer for a minute. “What do you mean you don’t have anyone to be at the festival with?”

“Well it’s not as fun to go alone, and please, name a family member or friend that I could ask to go to the festival with me.”

Diluc was quiet. When he still didn’t answer though, Kaeya looked over at Diluc. He seemed to be in thought, as if thinking about how to word what he would say next. Kaeya wasn’t going to try and press Diluc to talk, he was willingly having a civil conversation with Kaeya, and he didn’t want to cause Diluc to leave. Kaeya looked back out at the horizon. After another minute or two, Diluc took a breath and looked over at Kaeya. He started to talk, but stopped before he even finished the first word. Diluc paused before he managed to say something. “Kaeya,” Diluc started. “T-that night. With my—our father… I-” Diluc stopped again and took another breath. “Look, Kaeya, everything happened years ago, and I think that, maybe, I’ve held everything against you for too long. I-I’m sorry, for everything I said,” Diluc managed to say. He let out a shaky breath. “I don’t expect forgiveness.”

Kaeya looked at Diluc. He couldn’t believe what he had heard. “You didn’t do anything that needs to be forgiven, your reaction was natural. I’m the one who should be apologizing, and I am. Now. Diluc, if you did anything that needs forgiveness then it’s all dust in the wind, but I did things, much worse than you,” Kaeya looked up at Diluc and met his eyes. “I’m sorry too. I’ve been sorry, I’ve just been scared to apologize.”

“You can forgive me, so, I forgive you too, Kaeya,” Diluc said as he stood up and stopped leaning on the banister.

Kaeya stood up straight too and smiled at Diluc. His smile disappeared though as he felt tears start to form in his eyes. Why was he crying, he was glad that he had been forgiven finally.

Diluc reached out and pulled Kaeya closer into a hug. He had one hand around the middle of Kaeya’s back and the other on the back on his head.

Kaeya hugged Diluc back. He was slightly taller then Diluc, but Diluc’s heeled boots made them roughly the same height. Kaeya had his head down and it was laying between the middle of Diluc’s chest and shoulder. Kaeya’s tears started to fall and Diluc pulled him closer. They stood there like that for a few minutes as Kaeya continued to cry. Diluc was smiling, and felt tears forming in his own closed eyes.

Kaeya pulled away from Diluc and looked at him, smiling. He wiped a tear off of his face. “This doesn’t mean I’m going to stop antagonizing you,” Kaeya said.

Diluc laughed. “I didn’t expect you to.”

“Antagonizing you is just as important as wine is,” Kaeya said simply.

“The festival’s still going to be going for another few hours. You wanna go down and celebrate with everyone else?” Diluc asked.

Kaeya nodded. “Let’s go.” Kaeya put his arm on Diluc’s head teasingly, just to rub in the fact that he was taller. Because of the heels on Diluc’s boots it made it slightly harder to do though. Maybe Kaeya wouldn’t mind getting drunk tonight after all, special occasions were a reason to drink all night.

Diluc pushed Kaeya’s arm off of his head.

Kaeya chuckled and walked back into the Knights of Favonius headquarters to get back to the town for the festival with Diluc—with his brother.
