AA, Yelp, and Other Noises of Surprise

Summary:

Selections from Yelp Reviews made in and around Los Angeles, Japanifornia, taken in late 2019.

Notes:

I don't think this is how Yelp actually works, but fortunately in the Ace Attorney universe they consulted a spirit medium before building the website. Everyone thank the random ghost who told them to make the site into more of a social media platform and thereby enabled this silliness.

I got to speak to my dead mom again, so that was pretty cool. One star deducted for being so out of the way, though. I got like no signal out there.

We're sorry you could not "live stream" your reunion with the deceased, dear sir. However, channeling is a highly spiritual art, and its practice requires a connection to nature that cannot be found in an urban environment. Please keep that in mind next time you feel inclined to open your mouth on the subject.

The people there are nice and the channeling is cool but the training is way too harsh. Why should someone who's already dead care if I'm awake before dawn?

Mystic Maya, this is most unbecoming, in addition to being bad for business. Please delete this at once.

I know what you think, but first of all, spirits have been legally proven to exist. More importantly, I was able to see it with my own eyes. Not only did the medium's whole body transform, she spoke with the voice of my late grandfather, calling me by the nickname only he used. It's thanks to the Kurain channelers that I was able to say goodbye. I feel so much better about not just our relationship now, but about life itself, knowing that the dead aren't truly gone. I hope you are able to set aside your prejudices long enough to give the Kurain Channeling School a try; the experience is quite literally life-changing.

the noodles here are decent but the people-watching is unmatched. last time i went i saw a guy spill broth on himself then steal the ruffly tie thing from around his date's neck to use as a napkin. the other guy turned as pink as his suit (no, i don't get his fashion choices either). i don't normally walk away from a ramen stand feeling better about my life choices but here we are.

I would like to request that everyone in this thread have more consideration for others' privacy. We do not know what either of those men may have been going through at the time, and we should not make judgements of their behavior without proper evidence.

All my friends know that burgers are my favorite food and that is true but the ramen here is the closest I've ever come to changing my mind. I make my coworker take me here all the time and if he abandons me so he can bring his boyfriend every time I will simply have to defeat him and reclaim my position as Nick's favorite treatee.

I was able to visit my best friend without any problems but while I was talking to him I saw this woman crawling along the ground with a camera. When she caught me staring she threatened me with a whip. Those floors are not clean enough for that ma'am.

this is what's wrong with our legal system these days. being arrested isn't the same as being convicted, and being convicted isn't proof that you actually committed the crime

While I have some negative associations with the area after several traumatic incidents in my past, the scenery here is gorgeous, well worth photographing if you should get a chance. The temple itself is rather plain, and the nuns are a little annoying, but they're accommodating enough and should not dissuade you from visiting. I wouldn't bother with the Inner Temple, though. It's little more than a glorified prison cell.

I tried to come here after the feature in Oh! Cult magazine and the only nun there insisted that she couldn't possibly have guests after some murder or whatever. I bet she was just covering for the fact that she can't even channel. The decor was legit but all the real mediums left ages ago. Don't waste your time when Kurain Village is right there.

Did you know you can just walk in and choose a trial to watch and no one will stop you? I do it all the time, it rules. You may have heard about the parrot thing but that's nothing. I once saw a woman own a guy so hard all his hair flew off. The vending machines do suck though. The selection is bad and they're way too expensive. Bring your own snacks, and maybe wait for the recess in case things get too heated.

As much as I enjoy the shows produced by this studio, I cannot justify giving the location more than two stars. For one thing, the security guard working the front gate is absolutely impossible. She refuses to provide information about their flagship property, instead nattering endlessly about her personal life to the exclusion of any other topic, or indeed, any thoughts on the listener's part. Even more disturbing, she is prone to developing fixations upon the guests, going so far as to track them to their places of work despite clear entreaties that she stop.

She is the standout "feature" of the studio, but far from the worst, as difficult as that may be to believe. Should you make it past the front gate, you may have the displeasure of encountering Sal Manella, a disgusting and despicable man who seems incapable of conceptualizing women as more than either consumable products or maternal icons, neither of which allow for any interiority on the women's part. This tendency is annoying when it comes through in his writing; seeing it play out before one is infinitely more concerning.

Ultimately, while it was thrilling to see the site of such renowned battles as the Steel Samurai vs the Dark Messenger, I cannot claim that it was worth the ordeals I suffered to reach that point.
