Work Text:

The sunlight shines through the sheer curtains. The light hits Harrison's eyes, disturbing his sleep. He lies curled under a blanket on a couch. He squints his eyes, shaking his head, pain throbs throughout. He shakes his head and looks around, taking in his surroundings.
Confusion takes over with the realization he's at his Dad's apartment lying on his couch. He put his hands on his head and tries to remember how he got here.

He thinks back to last night he's got know memory of how or when he had got here. Last he could remember he was being dragged to a party with Gigi. She wanted to have some fun and make him 'let loose a little'. After a bit, she had finally convinced Harrison to join her. Even jokingly saying he could watch over her in case of something bad. Though it seems it was the other way around on that front.
Seeing as he had clearly had drunk too much last night, that much is for sure. As he is beginning to feel nauseous. He is sure he is going to be sick. He moved a hand to cover his mouth to keep from vomiting all over himself and the couch. He throws the blanket that once covered him off, not caring if it falls off the couch. He moved off the couch and went into the bathroom.

"Harrison," he hears his Dad call out to him it echoes throughout the hall. "I'm in the bathroom," he called back. He listened as Dexter walked over his steps, gradually growing in sound. Dexter walks in, and he looks down at Harrison with a look almost full of pity and concern. Harrison looks over, turning himself away from the toilet. Still sat kneeling on the bathroom floor.

His eyes were shining and his throat was burning. "Dad, when did I get here?" He asks voce stranded "Well last night, Gigi called, concerned about how much you had drunk. She said You couldn't even walk straight, so I came and brought you over to my apartment," Dexter said awkwardly. Wordless Harrison just nodded his head.

He watched Dexter leave the room, and he returnes quickly with a red worn-out shirt, a pill, and some water. He looked down with the realization he'd gotten his shirt dirty. He sighed embarrassed, reaching down, he removes it and replaces it with the shirt Dexter had offered over to him. It was baggy on his smaller frame, but it had a nice comforting, familiar feeling. After he was done, he took the medicine and downed it with the water. "Thanks," he mumbled. Dexter nodded, giving him a thumbs up.

"Okay, let's get you off to bed," Dexter exclaims, clapping his hands together.
Dexter extends his arms out towards Harrison and grabs him under his arms. He pulls him up from the ground. Harrison wobbily stands. Dexter keeps ahold of him one arm wrapping around him. He leads him into his bedroom and has him lie down.

"Stay here get some rest I'll be back later after I take care of some stuff," Dexter said Harrison looks at him questioning "Like to deal with the code" he asks, Dexter nods his head "We can talk about it later, for now get some rest" "Okay" Harrison replies too tired to complain with him.

Dexter ran a hand through Harrison's hair, moving it out of his eyes. He plants a soft kiss on top of his head. Harrison watches with a disappointed feeling in his heart as Dexter leaves him. He closes his eyes and tries to shut his brain off and let sleep take over his conscious.

Harrison drifts falling in and out of sleep. Faint memories haunt his dreams. His gun was pointed out aming straight at his Dad's heart. The recoil as he helplessly pulls the trigger. The horror sets in as he rushes over to his Dad's collapsed body. Fullishly he tries and fails to stop him from bleeding out onto the snow.

His world spins into darkness then light. His heart is pounding as he wakes up. His ears ring, Sweat drenched his hair, and drips down his face. He opens his eyes taking in his surroundings he calms down remembering he's still in his Dad's bed. He's dad is still alive he survived a cursed miracle.

Harrison gets out of bed and walks into the living room. He wonders what Dexter could possibly be doing right now. What if he's in some kind of trouble? Harrison would be helpless, unless to stop it. His stomach churns thinking about what ifs. He bites his nails he walks out of the building. He wanders around the block walking aimlessly. He puts in his earbuds letting his music take his mind off his racing thoughts.

His phone starts buzzing cutting his music off and startling him. He pulls his phone out and sees Gigi's contact pop up. He swipes up answering the call. "What's up?" He says "Hey I was just checking up on you" She replied "Oh yeah, I'm good I slept it off" he says.

He notices she hesitates before she asks, "So what was that about, I know you mentioned having an addiction before it doesn't have anything to do with that?" That surprised him as much as he didn't want to admit it. He was slipping back into some of his past reckless behavior. He sighs "No don't worry I just got a little carried away that's all" he insists "Okay," she said skeptically "I'll talk to you later I've got to go to class soon, bye loser" "Bye" he replies.

He walks for a while till he spots a park bench. He sits in silence watching the birds fly through the sky. He stays till the sky darkens turning soft shades of pink purple and orange. He gets up deciding he should head back to his Dad's apartment he wonders if he is even back yet.

Harrison walks peacefully back. A slight chill in the air makes him shiver. He wishes he had thought to put a jacket on. He smiles at the realization that he was still wearing one of his Dad's shirts.

He approaches the apartment building he notices his Dad's car is parked in front. Suggesting he was probably inside. He heads inside and looks around for his dad. He sees he's sat on the couch watching some kind of documentary about deer.

Dexter looks over at him this makes him suddenly feel oddly nervous. "Hi, Dad," he says and walks over towards him. He sits down next to him. "I wasn't sure if you were coming back!" Dexter admits Harrison pulls at the bottom of his shirt "Yeah I just went out for a walk" he replies.

Dexter nodded "Okay, I've got dinner started it should be done soon," "Okay" Harrison replied He turned his focus back on the TV watching mildly bored. A ringing alarm alerts them that the oven is done. Dexter goes to pull out the lasagna.

The two of them sit face to face silently eating together. "Since you're spending tonight here you can sleep in the bed and I'll take the couch" Dexter suggests "Ha Dad aren't you getting too old for that. It's one night I can take the couch" Harrison argues. After a second he nervously adds "Or we could just share the bed since it's pretty big and the couch is kinda uncomfortable"

Dexter stares at him for a second with an unreadable expression. "Aren't you getting too old to share a bed with Dad?" He asks "It was just a suggestion, I was just trying to be nice" he exclaims flustered. Dexter shrugs "Okay we can share if you want," he said Harrison nodded his head "Sure".

Harrison stands he pushes his chair in with more force than necessary. He puts up his dishes and He walks down the hall and enters his dad's room. He climbs into the bed and takes the further side of the bed. He lies down under the cover. He hears Dexter's steps as he walks towards his room. He turns his head and watches Dexter open the door and enters. Dexter carefully walks over and pulls the comforter down. He slides under the cover next to Harrison.

A peaceful silence fills the room. Only the quiet soft breaths and New York traffic could be heard it was almost rhythmic. Harrison moves closer to Dexter. He lays his head down on top of Dexter's chest. This close he can hear and feel his dad's heartbeat. Softly pounding in a steady manner. It calms him.

He's glad to have this something he's missed longed for. "Good night" Dexter mumbles softly pulling Harrison closer to him. He rest his face into Harrison's curls. The world fades peacefully Harrison falls asleep in Dexter's arms.
