Hood never thought he would have a sidekick, especially not a half dead child. He also didn’t expect to keep getting asked if Danny was his child. He found Phantom in Crime alley, fighting a gang that was cornering a girl. Hood jumped in to help but the literal child was holding his own pretty well.
Hood shot some guy with a gas mask while the kid kicked another guy in the head. After the gang realized they weren’t winning that fight, they ran. The girl was long gone by then so Hood turned to Phantom, who was staring at him with wide eyes.
“The Red Hood” Phantom whispered in amazement.
“The one and only” He didn’t know why but it felt like the child was familiar in some way. And apparently he was a mind reader too.
“You feel familiar,” Phantom said before stepping closer to him.
“And so do you, have we met?”
“No, I don’t think so, but it's nice to meet you. I’m Phantom!” he said excitedly.
“You already know I’m Hood.” he said before looking around.“You should head home, it's pretty late.”
“I’m homeless”
“What”
“What” Phantom mimicked him, and Hood sighed deeply.
“Fine then, you can stay at one of my safe houses” Hood said a bit begrudgingly.
He didn’t know whether the boy was too trusting or if the kid had ulterior motives to blindly accepting his offer. And why could this child float? Sure superman can and maybe a few others but still.
“Soo…” Phantom looked up at him, a bit too calm for what he said next “do you know you have corrupted ectoplasm in your system”
Hood stopped dead in his tracks, because what the fuck. He looked back at the kid “Excuse me?”
“I’ll take that as a no then,” Phantom started walking again, like nothing was wrong. “Ok, well you’ve died before, right?”
“Getting a bit personal there kid,” Hood walked beside the kid while he talked. “But yes, I have”
“Well then, whoever brought you back did it in not-so-pure ectoplasm” Phantom looked him over “But it doesn’t seem to be affecting you so don’t worry.”
“I’m going to pretend that made sense.” Hood ignored all the questions this kid was raising in favor of just not dealing with that shit today. “Let’s just get you something to eat and a bed to sleep in.”
After that night, the kid basically just stuck to him. Practically moving into Jason’s safehouse. Then, after about a month of being a duo, Jason found out about why Danny was in Gotham, which led to how he died but he left that topic be.
Danny’s parents signed a contract with the G.I.W. to get more weapons and support but, soon after they found out Danny was a halfa, which led him to runaway with the help of his sister and friends. Then Jason told him about being a robin, how he died and got brought back, how he became red hood, and about his goals to better Gotham.
“Can we go to bat burger!”
Although Danny isn’t Jason's kid, everyone around them seems to think otherwise
