Rosangela "Red" Blackwell is a "Bestower of Eternity" — a spirit medium who helps ghosts pass on to the afterlife with the help of her spirit guide, Joey.

Joey Mallone used to be a tailor in the 1930s. Then he died, and became a spirit guide — first for Rosa's grandmother Patricia Blackwell, then for Rosa's aunt Lauren Blackwell, and finally for Rosa herself.
