Summary
When Agatha's best friend disappears, she suspects the worst: virtual reality addiction, a fate that has befallen too many Americans in the past few years. But things are even more dreadful than Agatha imagined. Lyris is stuck in a game whose avatars have become autonomous and have disabled the "off" switch. The only way to save Lyris, according to federal regulatory agents, is for Agatha to participate in an experimental project to temporarily take her friend's place.
Yes, Agatha and Lyris are the same age, they're both women, and they're both straight, but the problem is, the resemblance ends there. The sexually experienced Lyris has chosen a "reverse harem" game for players who want three worshipful boyfriends, and Agatha, whose own firmly repressed desires lean more towards kinky and weird, is in over her head from the first minute. When her choices start to change the tone of the game, it is less and less clear how she is supposed to convince three big, male, autonomous avatars that they should let her go.
