Chapter Text
“40% alcohol? Gosh, this is such a bad idea,” Sam signs, looking down at the label on the bottle as Colby sets up the camera in front of them.
Colby shrugs, a sly grin growing on his face. “Who knew we’d be doing another one of these so soon. At least it’s a good change of pace from all of the haunted shit we’ve been through.”
“Well it's either getting possessed or getting exposed so I don’t know which one’s better.” Sam groans, burying his face into the sleeves of his hoodie.
Colby laughs and it’s a smooth sound that makes a small smile creep onto Sam’s own features.
“You ready?” he asks.
Sam rolls his eyes, pulling Colby down next to him on the couch. “It’s not like I have a choice.”
The two boys settle beside each other with Sam slumping against Colby’s side. It was always nice to be in the other’s presence without a secondary force lingering behind them like how it usually is when they explore haunted places.
Sam relaxes, letting his weight fall on Colby as he closes his eyes to breathe in the scent of sharp cologne. He wished they could just stay like this forever, just the two of them together, bodies pressed and melded with the world spinning to a stop as time ticks slower in their presence.
Colby smiles down at him softly, running a hand through Sam’s hair. “Tired?”
He nods slowly. “Mmhm, just a little.”
“We can push the video until tomorrow, you know?”
Sam shakes his head. “Nah, I’m okay. Let’s just get it over with.”
Colby looks down at him skeptically. “If you say so. But just tell me when you need to back out.”
After that, the two fall silent. They stay like that for a bit before Colby nudges him off to turn on the camera. And if Sam misses the touch, he doesn’t mention it.
“What’s up guys, it’s Sam and Colby!”
“Hey,” he says, smiling softly at the camera.
Sam somewhat spaces out as Colby gives the basic rundown of how the video would go - they’d take turns choosing questions commented by fans on Twitter and the other refuses to answer, they have to drink.
“Sam…? Hellooo, earth to Sam,” a voice mutters.
His eyes slowly blink open and he squints as they are immediately assaulted by the bright lights in the filming room.
“Wha—”
“Hey buddy,” Colby says softly, dropping the hand that was waving in front of him. Colby shifts in a way that blocks the light and Sam can finally open his eyes to be greeted with that dopey smile he’s come to adore so much.
“Hi,” he mumbled, a little embarrassed for falling asleep in the middle of a video.
Colby’s smile widened and fuck, since when was the other so… beautiful? He looks up, almost dazed, as he drinks in the sight of Colby staring down at him, the light hitting him from behind and casting a yellowish outline around his features and bouncing off his skin to create a halo. Would it be weird if he just reached out right now and combed through Colby’s hair? It just looked so soft and—
“Woah now, don’t fall asleep on me again,” Colby chuckled, the sound pleasant to his ears.
He flushed even hotter. “Sorry, guess I was tired after all.”
Colby shrugged, the smile never leaving his face as he rolled out of the way, much to Sam’s dismay.
“I stopped the camera already, do you want to catch some sleep? It is getting late after all and we had a crazy day filming yesterday.”
Sam paused, looking down at the time on his phone.
11 PM. It wasn’t too late, compared to his standards, although Colby begs to differ when it comes to his definition of a healthy sleep schedule.
“Nah, it’s fine. I’ll just grab some coffee and we’ll finish this.”
Colby’s lips thinned but he nodded. “If you say so, don’t push yourself though. If you fall asleep again, I’m leaving you on the sofa and you’ll wake up with back pain tomorrow morning.”
Sam mockingly gasped. “You wouldn’t dare.”
“I would.”
They both glared at each other, none holding any real malice before both of them broke out in a fit of giggles.
“Okay, I’ll go make some coffee,” Sam said, finally standing up to stretch his limbs. “Do you want anything?”
“Eh, just water is fine.”
He nodded, already making his way to their kitchen counter and whipping up a quick coffee for himself, extra dark today, and pouring a glass of water for Colby. There was just something so domestic about this, but he shook the thought away before he could get too carried away.
“Thanks,” Colby said when he handed the other the water.
“No problem.”
“You would be a good house wife,” he joked, and Sam almost spitted out his coffee.
“Woah there, be careful,” Colby laughed. He shot him a mean look while trying, but failing miserably, to hide the growing blush overtaking his features.
“You ready to get this video over with?” Colby asked.
Sam nodded, taking another sip of his coffee. “Yup, let’s do this.”
“Save some of your appetite, it’s a truth or drink video after all.”
He groaned. “I know, you don’t have to remind me.”
“I bet you I won’t drink a single shot of alcohol today.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Don’t talk all big when we haven’t even seen the questions the fans have sent in.”
Colby shrugged. “We’ll see about that. I’m rolling by the way.”
Sam looked through the pile of comments on their monitor. “Okay… first question, have you ever hooked up with the same gender?”
Colby coughed awkwardly. “Starting strong I see.”
Sam laughed. “The fans are always hungry for these types of info. So, what’s your answer?”
To be honest, Sam was actually curious himself. For the most part, Colby was probably one of the straightest guys he knew, girls flock him like moths to a flame and he was unbelievably hot, objectively speaking. But what if…
“No,” Colby answered, crushing any of Sam’s hopes and dreams— not like he was in love with him or anything.
“How about you?” Colby shot back, and although it wasn't even meant for him, Sam thought about it. He hasn’t literally slept with a guy before but he’s not totally turned off on that idea…
“Uh, no?”
“Why did that sound like a question?” Colby pointed out, an amused smile taking over his features.
Sam lightly punched him on the shoulders.
“I haven’t,” he said, this time more assured. “And that question wasn’t even meant for me!”
“Well I got you to answer it anyway,” Colby grinned. “Okay, now for your actual question.”
He grumbled. “That’s not fair.”
“That’s life for you baby.” And Sam totally, definitely, did not let that nickname get to him.
“Oooh,” Colby started, which is never a good sign about what the next question is. “Do you think the other is attractive?”
He stilled. That was probably the most easy yet hardest question to answer of all time. Of course Colby was attractive as fuck, but he didn’t want to say it in a way that weirded the other out or gave fans too much leeway to spin his words.
“I meannn,” he cleared his throat. “Come on guys, it’s Colby, of course he’s hot.”
“Aww,” Colby chuckled. “Do you really mean that?”
He grinned, playing it up for the camera. If there was one thing he was good at, it was putting on the show for the audience. He pinched Colby’s cheek in between his fingers and smiled. “Of course I mean it, it’s pretty obvious, most people already want a load of you.”
Colby laughed harder, swatting his hand away. “I cannot confirm nor deny that.”
“Hmm okay, next question. What’s your favorite compliment from the other person?”
“When he once said I had pretty eyes…” Sam mumbled.
“What? I didn’t catch that.”
His face flushed slightly. “That one time you told me I had pretty eyes.”
Colby’s eyes widened, his own face also dusting with pink. “Aww, you do though.”
He smiled. “You too.”
They both blink up at each other, really taking in the other’s eyes and Sam had to hold himself back from fully melting into Colby’s warm gaze. “Um anyways, next question. Wait, didn’t you just make me answer two questions in a row?”
“Shit yeah, my bad.”
“Hey! I’m so getting you back for that, you’ll have to answer two questions to make up for that.”
“Right bet, shoot.”
“Hmm, what’s your favorite nickname the other has called you?”
Colby paused, resting a hand on his chin as he hummed thoughtfully. “I love it when he calls me hunny.”
He laughed. “Reallyyyy.”
Colby grinned back. “Yeah.”
“Okay then hunny,” he said, just to tease the other. “This next question’s a fun one.”
“Have you ever kissed a man before?”
“Isn’t that kind of similar to the hooked up question?”
“I mean, kissing is a different level than fucking.”
“Hm, I guess you’re right,” Colby mumbled. “But come on guys, you should’ve known this before, Sam and I kiss bi-weekly!”
He laughed. “Yeah right.”
“What do you mean?” he cried out exasperatedly. “Of course we doooo, see, come here, I’m going to give you a big smooch right now—”
He shoved the other back playfully. “Go awayyy.”
Colby huffed, crossing his arms. “Fine, my turn to ask the question.”
“What? You didn’t even answer the previous question—”
“I did, I’ve kissed you before!”
He stuttered. “That— that doesn’t count—”
“Why not? Anyways, what’s one thing you love most about the other?”
“Cheater!” he exclaimed.
“Are… are you pouting?”
He scowled. “What? No I’m not!”
Colby laughed. “You totally are pouting.”
“Fuck you!”
“Aww come on, it’s cute.”
He felt the tips of his ears burn and something bubbling inside his chest at the compliment but quickly shove those feelings aside. “Shut up, I hate you.”
“I know you don’t mean that.”
He softened. “Of course I don’t. And to answer that question, I love your determination the most. You’re always so passionate about the things you love and once you have a goal in mind, you’re always steadfast in achieving it.”
Colby’s eyes widened, taking in the gravity of those words. “That’s… that’s really sweet, thank you. I love that about you too.”
He smiled. “Thanks. OKAY, now for the really good question.”
Colby groaned. “I do not like where this is going.”
“Would you ever consider being with a man?”
“As in sex?” Colby asked. “Yeah totally, I’d fuck a man.”
And Sam practically choked on air.
“Woah dude, you okay?” Concern laced his tone as he patted Sam’s back gently.
He coughed. “My bad, something got caught in my throat. But really?”
“I mean, yeah, why not? A hole’s a hole—”
“Colby!” Sam shouted, lightly punching him as he hid his face in his sleeves to hide his growing blush.
“What?” Colby laughed, as if he didn’t just declared the most ground breaking news. This changes everything. What if he could really have a chance now—
“Would you not?” Colby shot both, curiosity sparkling in his eyes as he addressed the same question back at Sam.
“I guess, if they’re a nice person then, I don’t think gender is a really big factor of attraction for me.”
Colby nodded. “Yeah same, okay my turn to ask a question…”
A devious smile suddenly crawled up his face and Sam started to regret ever agreeing to this video in the first place.
“This is a good one, have you ever had a crush on the other person?”
He feels his breath hitched and he tries to slow down his suddenly quickening heart rate. He really hopes Colby can’t hear his heart basically pounding in his chest right now. It feels like it’s about to burst out of his rib cage any time soon now.
Shit, if he took a shot it would be really suspicious, but it’ll be worse saying he did (and still) has a mini (ginormous) crush on Colby… Would it be wrong to lie? Fuck fuck fuck…
“Pass me the bottle,” he said before his brain could even register the words.
“Oh?” Colby shot him a look but slid the alcohol bottle towards him anyway.
This was Sam’s first shot of the night, and he’d be lying to himself if he’d say this would be the last one, especially with how much more personal these questions were getting.
Colby looked like he wanted to say something, judging by the way he kept opening and closing his mouth, but thankfully, no words escaped him. Sam really didn’t want to expand more on why he chose to drink on a question that could’ve easily been answered by a no, of course I don’t have a crush on my best friend, that's totally weird and I’m not weird at all…
“So,” he started, clearing his throat, “next question?”
Sam signed to himself, ignoring the way Colby kept looking at him. This was going to be a long night indeed.
