Summary
King is a famous name among the Underground. Everyone knows the devil himself and the way that he swans around in his stubbled legs beneath his skirts and his golden makeup above his leather dusters, making his bargains, sewing up his claims on souls.
But not everyone knows what he’s like when he’s bruised up, golden makeup smeared, letting out a groan as he hoists himself up in a back alley, spitting a glob of blood on the pavement in front of him.
Crystal Palace isn’t much better off herself. Even though there is something in her that is bruised, something in her that is built on shrapnel and a prayer, there is something in her that is too kind for her own good. Something in her that feels sorry for people who are wronged, even if said people are monsters in their own right.
What the hell- she’s a monster. She played partners-in-crime with David and gathered up her fair share of WANTED-poster-worthy crimes. She can name the blood stained beneath her painted fingernails, all those names that laced themselves around her neck like the executioner’s noose until the day she placed David’s pistol to the back of his head and pulled the goddamn trigger.
The devil’s got nothing on her.
