Chapter 1: Hypocritical (Ruth Grange)

Chapter Text

Ruth Grange had always been smart. She got all A's, she learned from her mother, and was smart enough to get into Daughters of Eve. But now, as she laid in bed next to her husband, all she could think was "what went wrong?". She had spent her highschool years being against men. Being against the patriarchy. She had jumped her own brother for her Sisters. Now she laid in bed next to a man. Just a measly house wife. The thing she told herself she would never be. What were her sister's doing? Did they go against their beliefs? Was it all really worth it? What would Irene think?

Irene. Her teacher. How long had it been? Years, it seemed. She was a mother now. What would Irene think? "You're a victim of the patriarchy. You can't escape now." That's what she would say. Irene would hate this. She would tell her to run away. To leave her husband. It was bitter sweet for Ruth. She did love him. She loved her kids. She loved everything about her life. Why did she feel uneasy?

Ruth let her thoughts stop when she heard the bedroom door open. Right, children. One with night terrors. She had named her Irene, after her favorite teacher. But it was ironic; Irene would have never wanted Ruth to have children. "It hold women down" she said. Everything held women down according to Irene. Everything men did was against them. But Ruth realized something; she loved her life. She loved her husband. But she still felt bad. Did she make the right choice? She stopped questioning as little Irene cuddled up to her. Yes, she did make the right choice. Irene Stark was wrong. Nothing about this was bad.

Ruth's thoughts stopped as she cradled her daughter, then slowly she drifted off as well.
